He's listed at 6'3 on both rivals and 247....I was off on his weight at the Nike camp, he was 203. This was April of last year, 10+ months ago:

Maybe, but dat dude has a wind up at least as long as FF. He is going to be a total project also. At least he isn't a 3/4 thrower like FF was.

I haven't seen much video of Beck though. I guess at some point you say if Bammer wanted him too, he has to be pretty good. I'm just not sure I see him ever competing with the Joneses in this offense.

I'd rather keep AR. At least we know he can run.

I thought that Jalon Jones was 6'3, 210. Put another 10# on him and he will be OK.

EDIT: I just saw he was measured at 6'4". Never mind. He will be fine :).

I'd rather have both. We know that Beck can throw it and not just at camps.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Top performers from Sunday’s The Opening Regional held at West Orange High School.

Alpha Dog

The most electric pass rusher at the event was Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf Top247 defensive end Chantz Williams who put up outstanding testing numbers and then saw those traits translate to position drills and competition.

Checking in at 6-foot-4, 214-pounds, Williams clocked an eye-popping 4.56 laser-timed 40-yard dash along with a 4.49 shuttle and a 33-6 inch vertical leap en route to a strong rating of 104.82, putting him in the 99th percentile of all athletes that have tested.

Once the position work hit, Williams seemed to be a step ahead of his peers in every rep. Come 1-on-1s, he was a blur off the edge but also had inside pass rush moves in his arsenal as well. Still developing physically, Williams is one of the more intriguing prospects that competed.

Ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 5 weak-side defensive end and No. 64 prospect overall, Williams recently named a top five of Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Miami. It sounds like the Gators have really impressed to date.

Next Five Defense

Florida State linebacker commit Keyshawn Greene flourished, beginning with a 4.49 second 40-yard dash. Incredible length at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds on a wiry frame with much room for development, Greene swarmed running backs in cat and mouse drills including one nifty reach around play where he forced a fumble. Ranked by 247Sports as the country’s No. 8 outside linebacker, Greene was springy, rangy and smooth.

Lake Wales (Fla.) High Top247 defensive lineman Gervon Dexter was the best prospect on the field. Checking in at 6-foot-6, 273-pounds, the Florida commit’s strength is off the charts as evident by his 47-foot powerball toss. Dexter controlled the interior of the line of scrimmage of 1-on-1s typically by just moving the offensive linemen with ease then gliding into the backfield. Dexter can also run, clocking 4.88 in the 40-yard dash. Florida recruited an outstanding group on defense in 2019 but didn’t land a prospect like Dexter who has the tools to dominate across the defensive front. 247Sports bills him as the country’s No. 5 defensive tackle.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian Top247 cornerback Fred Davis II put on a clinic in position drills, his ability to change direction is what makes him unique. The 6-foot-1, 182-pound Davis uses his length well in coverage and made plays downfield as well. Clemson and Ohio State are among the top contenders for the country’s No. 3 cornerback per the 247Sports Composite.

Oregon athlete commit Avantae Williams had a strong day testing including a 4.52 40-yard dash, a 4.25 shuttle and a 36-2 inch vertical leap. He explodes out of his cuts in coverage, a raw yet instinctive player that flashed a lot. Florida, Georgia and LSU are among the schools pushing for a flip. The 247Sports Composite bills Williams as the nation’s No. 3 safety.

Largo (Fla.) High four-star linebacker Jayion McCluster was hungry for reps and made quick work of a lot of running backs in cat and mouse drills. Has short-area burst and takes good angles to the football. Florida State is the favorite to land his services.

Top Five Offense

Cocoa (Fla.) High Top247 athlete Caziah Holmes ran 4.49 on the laser, erased angles with that speed during cat and mouse drills running down the sideline against linebackers and also had some eye-popping open field moves. Holmes can also catch the football and pushed Williams for Alpha Dog honors. He also won the fastest man race (twice). Top contenders are Miami, Ohio State and Florida State.

Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf Top247 offensive tackle Jalen Rivers was as advertised. Massive at 6-foot-5, 327-pounds, he engulfed defensive ends at time, has good feet allowing him to move well laterally and he’s got the power to match up. Florida and Georgia are a couple of the programs who have impressed. He is the country’s No. 7 offensive tackle per 247Sports.

It was a talented quarterback group and Florida State bound signal-caller Jeff Sims led the charge. The Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood passer was on point most of the day, showcasing his ability to make things happen to all levels of the field, showing good zip and accuracy, especially impressing during the Elite 11 portion with downfield throws on the move.

Rocking Miami gloves in representing the program he’s committed to, West Palm Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Central Top247 receiver Bryan Robinson was the most consistent pass catcher in 1-on-1s, taking apart DBs with double moves downfield and easily creating separation on intermediate routes. The 247Sports Composite slots him as the No. 15 receiver in the country.

Port Orange (Fla.) Spruce Creek 2020 running back Marvin Scott III was an absolute tank of a specimen, a battering ram with nimble feet, he’s quick and it showed in cat and mouse drills against linebackers. He was one of the more decisive and exciting runners in the competition portion. West Virginia and Wake Forest are among the programs to offer Scott who looked capable of playing anywhere in this setting.

Camp MVPs and The Opening Finals Invites

Awarded by camp staff.

Quarterback went to Sims along with an Elite 11 invite. Two others got the call as well in Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin Top247 quarterback Carson Beck and Gainesville (Fla.) Eastside quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Beck came out smoking during the Elite 11 portion with routes on air and had some great throws in 1-on-1s. Smooth and sharp, easy to see why Beck threw for 3,546 yards and 39 touchdowns as a junior. Florida is trending on the 247Sports Crystal Ball and he’ll visit on March 12.

Richardson has as much talent as any prospect at the event, ran 4.5 on the laser in the 40-yard dash and his arm talent was second to none. He got into rhythm in the afternoon and hit on a variety of impressive throws including roll outs. Georgia and Penn State are the two schools he says he’s talking to the most.

Holmes took home running back honors. Receiver MVP was Tehrenzo Turner from Pine Forest and the offensive line MVP was awarded to Kentucky commit Richard Leonard who was really good on the interior. Defensive line MVP went to JeJuan Sparks who was a force himself in the middle, Greene was the linebacker MVP and Manny Stokes out of Lake Nona secured the award in the secondary.

The top tester at the event was linebacker Jack del Rio out of Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic who at 6-foot-3, 211-pounds ran 4.61 with a 4.44 shuttle, a 42-foot powerball and a 34-8 inch vertical leap, adding up to a 114.00 rating. Del Rio also flashed dropping in coverage. Southern Miss has offered. More should be on the way.

Invites to The Opening Finals will be added once announced.

Around the Camp

Other quarterbacks that shined included Garrett Greene out of chiles, Katravis Marsh from Miami Central, Chayll Garnett from Lake Wales and Tucker Gleason from Plant.

Lakeland (Fla.) High five-star running back DeMarkcus Bowman ran 4.47 in the 40-yard dash and showed some shake and bake in cat and mouse drills before shutting it down early. Florida, Clemson and Georgia are the top contenders for the blue-chipper who rushed for 2,422 yards and 36 touchdowns as a junior.

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy Top247 receiver Michael Redding’s day was highlighted by a 4.56 40-yard dash and 41-4 inch vertical leap. He was an exciting route runner as well that made a lot of plays but a few balls on the ground kept him out of the top five performers. Notre Dame and Purdue are two programs he’s extremely high on.

Venice (Fla.) High offensive tackle Thomas Shrader buried a pass rusher on one rep and was the only one who could say he got a win against the Alpha Dog Williams in another. Several Power Five programs have offered. Three more offensive linemen that were among the best were Zach Perkins out of Berkeley Prep, Evan Anderson from Orlando (Fla.) Jones and Malik Jones from Zephyrhills (Fla.) Christian Academy.

A lot of defensive backs flashed at different times including Florida State commit Demorie Tate, Tre'Vez Johnson who was physical with receivers at the line of scrimmage and also showed he could check tight ends, Ahmari Harvey, Alabama commit Jahquez Robinson, Miles Brooks, Donovan Thomas (several pass breakups), Lovie Jenkins, Tevin Griffey and Robert Simmons.

Southern Miss linebacker commit Michael Pleas sucked up running back after running back in 1-on-1s and has a nice frame on him.

Cooper Davis and Quinton McCoy were defensive tackles that flashed on the interior, Clyde Pinder Jr. is always a force and a regular snatching up the pylon behind offensive linemen in 1-on-1s and Cocoa (Fla.) High 2021 Dajavon White is short and light on the interior but didn’t lack strength decleating one offensive guard and dominating several other reps.

The fastest 40-yard dash at the event was clocked by Maurice Heath, a 5-foot-9, 164-pound 2021 cornerback from Jacksonville (Fla.) Lee.

Former Florida commit Keyvone Lee was the most impressive looking running back, 6-foot, 216-pounds with a thick trunk. This isn’t the type of event he’s going to shine in but he had a smoothness to his game that was certainly intriguing.

Another specimen was Top247 2021 defensive lineman JC Latham who had some good reps on the edge and interior. Michigan, Wisconsin, Clemson and Oklahoma are among the schools the country’s No. 8 overall prospect is looking at.

Running back Lawrance Toafili ran 4.57. Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood running back Kyjuan Herndon was elusive in the competition portion.

West Palm Beach (Fla.) linebacker Vincent Starling was another long-limbed second-level defender that suffocated runners. He's high on offers from Pittsburgh and Boston College.

I tend to agree on AR. I hate to get another John Brantley situation (and that's no offense to Brantley - he shouldn't have ever signed w/ UF under Meyer's offense) - square peg/round hole type of QB. Beck is an athlete though, having been offered as both a baseball and football player. So, maybe he can run? But we know AR can run, plus he's already 220lbs+....and he actually looked pretty good throwing the ball at the camp; he wouldn't have gotten the Elite 11 invite if his passing was terrible - and remember, Jalon Jones didn't get an Elite 11 invite.

Well, Driskell was an elite 11 finalist and #1 recruit way back when and we know how bad he was handled. But I do believe that you need a great passing QB to win championships. Throwing at camps and throwing during live action is not the same. Being able to read a defense pre and post snap, going through your progressions, timing and leading your receiver open, being able to look off a safety and then accurately delivering a pass is what being a QB is all about. Being able to run occasionally is a bonus as is stepping up in the pocket and being able to scramble. We don't need a Tim Tebow, we have plenty of good RBs and are recruiting some really good ones. In fact I don't believe that Mullen has ever had the kind of talent in the WR, TE and RB that he will have the next few years. I don't want a Nick Fitzerald running this team. I want a Deshawn Watson.

FF went to Elite 11, plus these are regional elite 11s, so it's doesn't literally mean the top 11 quarterbacks in the nation.

I just haven't seen anything indicating that Beck can run. Being fast and being able to be a running back or different things. we have plenty of wide receivers and defensive backs and even linebackers who are fast but aren't capable of carrying the ball effectively. This offense absolutely needs somebody who is capable of keeping the defense honest at least and works best when you have a Tebow or Cam Newton type.

We throw down the field about once a quarter. 95% of the plays are either running plays/ options or short passes. we definitely need someone I cure it but getting the best passer available is not one of the requirements of this offense.

This is just a total misunderstanding of the offense.

If you don't have a running quarterback than the offense looks like Chris Leak prior to changing to the Latsko offense (traditional I/power I w FB) or John Brantley under Daz. Leak and Brantley had nfl-caliber running backs behind them, but you can't run an option and leave a guy unblocked with no threat of the quarterback running if the defensive end doesn't stay honest. And why wouldn't the DE crash on the running back? They knew Leak and Brantley weren't going to keep the ball and it didn't really matter if they did.

I dont like Nick Fitzgerald, at all, but this offense absolutely needs a quarterback who can run. The quarterback will always be the leading rusher or the second leading rusher in Mullinz' offense.

Brantley looked worse than he was because of Steve Addazio. If Daz can't run power with his QB he has no idea what else to call.

I will give Mullen the benefit of the doubt here. If he thinks Beck is better for his offense, then let's go get 'em.

Yet we did OK with FF running this offense. The two games we lost (Kentucky, Missouri) we lost because of the defense. FF was a lost cause and Mullen rehabilitated him enough to win. Now imagine an FF that can really throw. I am totally OK with the amount of runs that FF got. Don't want more. I want a stout but athletic OL that pushes people around and can protect the QB. No matter what offense you run you need a good if not great OL.
Brantley was a scaredy cat. That guy just looked afraid being in the pocket. I don't blame him. Our OL post Tebow era left a lot to be desired. Mike Pouncey did not exactly help him by spraying the ball all over.
