It is just so hard to believe that from 2005 to 2017 UF hired 4 head football coaches and Spurrier was basically never taken seriously as a candidate. And there he is 4-0 in a new pro league where everyone started out even.

Yep that was a joke how Machen handled that. He should have just kept his mouth shut and gave the standard respectful answer when asked about Spurrier knowing he was hiring Meyer no matter what if he would come.

I am glad Spurrier finally said what was going on generally. You used to have people on these forums acting like it wasn't a done deal and Machen wasn't in charge of that decision. Foley had no say in reality on that hiring.

We skrewed up several times.

We did not go for Strong when SOS left

We did not go for Strong again.

Under Muschump we did not go for Kerwin as OC.

We let SOS go to S.Car

We brought in Butters Macshark with SOS down the hall.

We could have SOS w/Kerwin in waiting.

That said, I am pleased with Mullen.

But there was a lot of damage done before hand.

I got a buddy who can't let his ex-wife go. Literally obsessed with her. He can't talk about anything else. Remind you of anybody??

You forgot to login to your alt before quoting and replying to yourself

I didn't want to edit after your dislike. You guys need Foley. You guys need Zook. You guys need Butters. You guys need Chimp. Otherwise you would be stalking some poor woman on Facebook. FFS, let it go.

Does your bubby's ex-wife want to get back together with him? Has she been open to getting back together with him time and time again over the years? If not your analogy is pretty weak.

Charlie didn’t have HC experience when SOS left us so no mistake there. You don’t give the keys to a Ferrari to a teenager with no driving experience...and yes I know Foley did that very thing with Zook so I rest my case.

When Charlie got some HC experience he still wasn’t very good so no mistake the 2nd time either.

I agree with you on hiring Kerwin. I think he could have been a very good OC for us but Chump is a dumb azz and he very well may have found a way to fcvk that up, too.

Mac had head coaching experience and we got royally screwed. Lincoln Riley had none and look at Oklahoma. Making the right decision goes deeper than head coaching experience. You have to have a feel for football people. Foley doesn't.

This is so true. Such message board bullshyt that you cant promote a coordinator. Stoops, Riley, Fisher, the list could be pretty long.

Just dont promote one who was terrible or one who thinks you win games with top.

There are 118 HCs and about 110 would make terrible to mediocre coaches at UF.

You’re correct that the right choice goes deeper and just having HC experience isn’t an automatic qualifier by itself and maybe in the right circumstance a coordinator may make sense but can either of you tell me which coordinator on staff in 2001 or 2010 would have been a good choice to promote to HC? Make no mistake about it, Charlie has shown himself to be an average HC. Not choosing him in 2002 or 2011 wasn’t a mistake, although the choices that were made certainly were mistakes.

BTW, Donk when did you become a C. Strong fan?

I've always been a Charley fan.

I'm not sure he is a great coach though. In fact, I'm pretty sure he isn't. His basically a better version of Ron Zook. Good recruiter (like Zook), but a better coordinator than Zook was. If we are going to make mediocre hires, it might as well have been a great dude who is 97% Gator.

Meh, you can have him, good dude or not. I seriously don’t think he would have been dramatically different results wise than Zook. Hell, in hindsight he may have been more difficult to fire than Zook and indirectly caused us to miss our chance to hire Urban had he been our HC in 2004.

I don't think I meant over Zook.

I meant over Chimp or Butters.

I'm not sure the results would have been different but at least we'd have a good dude running the program instead of some azzhole and an azzhole who isn't a Gator at that.

I must be the only one who loves Urbs and am glad we didn't rehire SOS. Guy is a legend and defines everything it means to be a Florida Gator but his time had passed. Urbs and Mullen's offense is what I like

That was 15 years ago. Explain what you mean by his time had passed.
