Man ... I really like this coach more than I liked any of our coaches (other than SOS) at this point in his career. I want him to succeed here really bad and realize I will probably lean a bit to the pumper side because of that.

Me too. I love his energy and attitude.

Im surprised that I agree since I hated the hire at first. Now he must recruit at a higher level and actually win something substantial. So far so good though.

I was in the "say no to Dan Mullen" camp too, until I saw what the team looked like last season. The difference was staggering.

After the hype for Frost and Kelly, the hire was a let down. And when you factor in how the previous 2 coaching searches, that let down feeling kinda felt like "been here done that". But from day 1 of stepping on campus he has fit the mold of the perfect hire for us. He is easy to understand when he talks to the press and I don't think he holds punches or talks code. Players seem to love him. He is a good practice and gameday coach. His system, though not my favorite, is effective and hard to defend when players execute. If he has equal talent, there is only a couple coaches in the SEC that give him a game. He just needs to get the talent here.

I will say this, he wanted this job. I mean he WANTED it. He would have gone to ND, Meatchikin, OSU, Penn State, Ugly, Bammer, bUTtchug, but he WANTED this job.

And he knows how shoet the leash is here. He is attacking it with a tenacity that Im sure Kelly just doesnt possess anymore.

I havent been this happy w a HC for a decade.

(No, that doesnt mean Im going to agree w every decision. I just dont roll as blind homer.)

I think he made it clear there is opportunity on the O line. A lot. Be nice to see a couple young guys surge forward.

Between Delance, Forsythe, Moore, and Gouraige hopefully we find two that are SEC caliber and ready to go. If Tarquin plays/starts this year we're in trouble.

Reggie Green and Jason Odom started as true freshmen on the Oline. So did Randy Hand. It can be done. It's just hard.

And? We could go down a list all day long of successful true freshman all across the country: OL, QBs, RBs, WRs, DTs, CBs, etc. Most of them are highly rated, 5-stars or high 4-stars.We signed 7 OL's and none of them are ready to compete for a starting job. One or two might play, and the only way any of them contribute is likely going to be due to injuries to guys in front of them. Tarquin was ranked barely inside the top 300 (at #277 on 247) and he's the highest ranked OL we signed. If we signed a couple of 5-star OLs I might agree w/ you, but these kids we signed are mostly redshirt candidates. Hell, even Gouraige - the highest rated OL we signed last year - appears like he needs more weight. Don't get me wrong, I know what you're saying....and I think several of these kids do contribute/start, just not in 2019.

I am always amused by the things I think I know for sure that turn out not to be true. One of the reasons I enjoy sports is the unpredictability. I look at our Oline candidates and think much like you do. Yet there is the promise of a complete and total surprise performance, someone who rises about what is predicted by all the experts. Who know who might step up and be a real performer above and beyond what we expect. It will be fun to see what develops during Spring practice and once the Fall arrives.

A better example than Odom and Green (who were highly prized recruits) is J. Taylor. He was a fat kid who was told to lose weight before we'd even offer him a scholarship. Then he shows up on campus and becomes a starter after a few games. So, yes, one of these kids could emerge....but I'm a realist and understand the odds are it won't happen and one of the more senior kids who have been here for a few years likely emerges. I'd like to see Moore show up. He was one of two OL's in his class....and the only one left (from his signing class). He's been here 3 years. Time to step up.

Apparently Ethan White has dropped a bunch of weight already. Radio said he was 392 when he signed.

@Roasty194: Spring break 2019 for this Gator! #77 #thatsmile

The last time a OT had to lose a bunch of weight to play at UF, it worked out well for us. He will be the top OT in this year's draft.

That is as it should be. Objective assessment and analysis is helpful, but it’s a lot more fun when you’re able to root for the guy who is leading the team you passionately follow and support.

I’m right there with you. All in.
