Just wondering if there are any IMSA fans or party animals that are going.
I camp with a rather fun group from Wednesday to Sunday morning.

I've been to seven 12 Hours events over the past 40 years, five as a fan and two as a member of the working media.

This was from two years ago. I happened upon Peter Gregg's old Porsche 935 in a small museum adjacent to pit row. I'd worked briefly on this car in Peter's downtown Jax race garage immediately after college. A buddy got me the gig. Blew me away when I saw it again.

The first thing my eye is drawn to in the photograph is how crooked the handrail stanchions are. Are those black nylon socks?

Wednesday can't get here fast enough. Considering the horrible weather at Daytona this year we should see a lively crowd and some great racing.

One of the guys I go with has been to 52 of them...

I'll check back here and see if anyone that is there would like to meet up at our camp.

I unfortunately won't be going this year, Gator-Don. Here's to hoping for seasonally great weather for you and the rest of the 200,000 diehard IMSA crazies.

Cheers!

Maybe because I'm wearing a hat on top of another hat. I came to the event wearing a white Gator hat and was given another one during the day by Porsche of Tampa. I was afraid I'd lose it in my pocket. Looks a little weird.

The Dad of one of my housemates in college raced a 935 on the IMSA/Camel GT circuit back in the day (I had the good fortune to help out in the pits at races at Pocono, Elkhart Lake, and Road Atlanta in the mid 80s). They hated Sebring and 24 hours of Daytona. Called them the "car killers." Their objective in those races was mostly about getting the most points without damaging the car.

Yeah, that's a long time to be running a car flat out, esp on a track as infamously bumpy as Sebring's airport track. But it's what helped Porsche garner its reputation for building cars that can take day to day punishment and keep on running.

All true. The worst part for them was the team sponsor (my friend's dad's company) sold after market accessories for Porsches so they had to be there and be competitive. Bad for business to do otherwise.
