Here are some of my thoughts about UF and the opening round game:

1. UF is playing with house money. Who a month ago imagined this team would be in the tourney.

2. The players for Nevada that play more than 10 minutes a game are:

Caleb Martin, SR, 6'7" 205 lbs, 34.0 min, 19.2 pts, 5.1 reb, 2.9 assists, 34.3% beyond the arc, 55.5% inside the arc, 73.0% from the FT line.
Caroline. SR, 6'7" 230 lbs, 35.4 min, 17.3 pts, 7.3 reb, 2.0 assists, 38.0% beyond the arc, 49.2% inside the arc, 63.5% from the FT line.
Cody Martin, SR, 6'7" 205 lbs, 34.3 min, 11.7 pts, 4.5 reb, 5.1 assists, 35.6% beyond the arc, 56.3% inside the arc, 75.0% from the FT line.
Johnson, JR, 5'10" 195 lbs, 28.5 min, 11.2 pts, 1.8 reb, 1.5 assists, 45.2% beyond the arc, 56.0% inside the arc, 84.4% from the FT line.
Thurman, SR, 6'7" 230 lbs, 26.1 min, 8.3 pts, 5.7 reb, 1.7 assists, 27.1% beyond the arc, 62.3% inside the arc, 79.4% from the FT line.
Porter, SR, 6'11" 230 lbs, 17.5 min, 7.4 pts, 4.8 reb, 0.5 assists, 14.3% beyond the arc, 63.2% inside the arc, 63.7% from the FT line.
Brown, FR, 6'11" 210 lbs, 10.3 min, 3.1 pts, 2.2 reb, 0.5 assists, 0.0% beyond the arc, 51.3% inside the arc, 62.5% from the FT line.
Henson, SR, 6'3" 175 lbs, 12.9 min, 2.8 pts, 0.9 reb, 0.7 assists, 32.0% beyond the arc, 61.1% inside the arc, 92.9% from the FT line.

3. Nevada does not turn the ball over. They were the 13th best in total turnovers in the country and 8th best in turnovers per possession.

4. Caroline was the guy who did not play in the conference tourney loss. Porter started that game and totaled 8 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists.

I hope our guys show up and display a defensive intensity that Nevada hasn't seen. But my gut tells me they win big. Nevada is 29-4 and only had 1 bad loss. They should have been a 4 or 5 seed and could win 3 games in the tourney.

Were definitely gonna have our hands full with Nevada. But sure is nice to be in! Just a good overall look for the program.

I think Coach White sacrifices some victories in the regular season to mold and toughen our team for the tournament. I believe we will perform somewhat better than expectations.

Reading this post you'd find it impossible to believe the Gators are a 2-time NC winning program and have been to the Final Four a boatload of times. There are banners hanging all over the O-dome.

"Just getting in" is a "good look for the program"? :crazy:

I sincerely doubt White knows the selection committee well enough to skate this close to the bubble and get in. I get the concept of a coach sacrificing wins to grow and teach the team. I don't see that in White's mindset as yet. Mostly, it's been survival.

I found your boat holding our Final Four appearances ('94,'00, '06, '07, '14). Careful, as I think you'll need a bigger boat if we make it again. Shouldn't be this year, though, so you have time.

There are indeed banners all over the O-Dome...for track, gymnastics, oh..and men's bball as well. For the men, the past decade has been what? I'll be generous and start with the NC's:

'06 = NC
'07 = NC
'08 = NIT Semifinal
'09 =NIT Quarterfinal

'10 = NCAA R1
'11 = NCAA Elite8
'12 = NCAA Elite8
'13 = NCAA Elite8
'14 = NCAA Final4
'15 = ???
'16 = NIT Quarterfinal

'17 = NCAA Elite8
'18 = NCAA R2

As a program, Elite8 is our current calling card = respectable, but not top tier. As such, just making it in isn't a good look, it shows a down year. But looking at White's tenure, we're f'n fortunate to make it in. It (hopefully) shows he's building back up to regular attendance in the tournament, which isn't a given when he has an NIT and a second round bounce to go with his no-postseason in '15. THAT is not a good look, and 'just making it in' improves upon that.

I, for one, am happy for the underclassmen to get the experience - they need it. The upperclassmen going out on an NCAA bid, is ok, but I really don't feel we owe them much given how the season has gone.

I will be admitting I've said all along this team wouldn't make the tourney, and I WAS WRONG.

I think the freshmen deserve the bid, and that Kevarrius Hayes deserves the bid. I agree that getting the experience for the freshman will be a good thing for the future.

While I hope that Hudson and Kevaughn catch fire in the tourney, Their inconsistent play at times hurt the team as much as their good play helped them.

I do love Hayes. Periodically, we have a player who has a ceiling when it comes to skill sets, but he is bound and determined to keep pushing against it and give all he has. I see Hayes as that this season. He'll go in my book of players who were true Gators.

That 282nd national rank in scoring is a sacrifice alright.

I think the dark side has embraced you. You sound more and more like a disillusioned beat writer for the Cleveland Browns.........;)

Probably right, I felt this way last year too. Maybe I just can't explain some of the losses, performances and substitution patterns during the season

I'll be honest, I couldn't name a single assistant he has. Maybe between him and his staff, they aren't that good at assessing players and figuring out how the pieces fit, so he spends the entire season trying to get a lineup that works? I sincerely hope not, or it means the first half of every season will be a roller coaster. However, in looking back at this season, that's kinda how it feels. I get that a big part of it is Allen-Hudson not performing to expectations, but that 'feeling his way' seems accurate in that Hudson found a bench seat to start games and stayed there, while the lineup overall didn't solidify until late in the season. Damn few coaches are perfect, and the good ones get that way with years of experience, but it still feels like White is learning on the job. I'll try to take that as the positive opposite of a coach assuming they know it all when they don't. I just know a lot of us would expect more 'knowing' on the part of our HC.
