Nope, no mental issues. I was kind of joking about the banning part because you joke about banning people all the time.
Yes, I very much enjoy ban threats. It's kind of a hobby.

To the question of why I stay around, I'll reference a conversation that I had with my teen-aged daughter yesterday. She was a bit down, and after talking further, it was clear that being surrounded by negative people in her workplace and other aspects of her life was part of what was dragging her down. We talked about the importance of balance, having positivity in her life to gain a more even perspective. And I don't really see it as "so bad here", just annoying that dissenting opinions are personally chided, and ridiculed, rather than discussed on their merits.
I think this goes to the root of taking things too seriously here. Remember, it's a sports-bar atmosphere. Being "personally chided and ridiculed" is absolutely part of the fun and entertainment portion of things. I wouldn't have it any other way. Like when someone doesn't slam Jim McElwain as hard as they should, that's when you call them a "Butter lover" and even go a step further by asserting that they always loved and defended Butters since Day 1. The truth doesn't really matter, only getting under their skin does. It's completely juvenile and I love it.

I think you have a good thing going here at GC, and that it is the premier Gators message board, bar none. I like to be part of something that is the best. Ironically, I'm being called "weak" because I'm telling you that it could be even better.
:heehee: I appreciate the compliment. However, claiming the board could be "better" is in the eye of the beholder. If I was to start cracking down on negativity would everyone think that was better? Hell no, a lot of people would call me a Nazi and leave the board. Letting people say retarded things is what gives Gatorchatter such charm.

I don't feel overwhelmingly positive about this basketball team, and believe the likelihood of them going 1-and-done in the tournament is about 50-50. But I do believe that it is important to recognize that guys who play with heart, like Hayes, who will never be an NBA player, is part of what makes college basketball great. Seeing Hayes, Nembhard, and Johnson peaking at the end of the season adds to the excitement for me. And believing that, at this point in the season, as Mike White keeps putting a team into a position to be able to win games, despite upperclassmen providing neither leadership nor scoring on a consistent basis, perhaps he is the right guy.
Instead of "putting them in position" to win, I'd prefer that he just WIN. At any rate, this team can beat Nevada, it's getting any farther than that that would be a miracle.

In a perfect world, it might be easy to say that what Mike White has for players is "all on him". But factor in multiple injuries to front line players, and the fact that many other teams are paying the precious few big men to come to their schools, and a few other factors, and it's more realistic to say that a variety of circumstances has given Mike White a steeper coaching hill to climb.
I don't know if Mike White is a bad coach, but it's pretty tough to call him a good one, too. I don't expect to ever win anything under him, but he's going to get more time, so it's all moot. He just seems to me like the Will Muschamp of basketball.

As far as "only the strong survive", it doesn't take a strong person to jump on the bandwagon, positive or negative. Holding on to less popular opinions, such as Marine does, takes a stronger person.
What I meant by strong is someone that can handle the arrows that come flying at them without quitting the board or sending me PM's in tears about things, asking me to discipline the meanies. Over the years I've learned to tweak noobies, throw them a little shot to see how they react. If they flip out, you know they won't make it. If they laugh about it or throw it back at you they earn my instant respect.

Whether or not we agree or choose to disagree on this topic, I'm a supporter of yours and believe we have far more that we agree on than on those points we disagree.
I appreciate your support, both financial and by posting.

If I was a neutral party that didn't really care about the Gators and this was just a business venture, I could run the board a different way. Crack down on any personal attacks, make sure threads stay on topic, etc. Have a nice clean family friendly board in which no one gets offended. However, I'm not a neutral party and I while I wanted a message board, I also wanted to be an active participant with strong, sometimes absurd opinions. I still wanted to mix it up, I still wanted to call and be called an asshat. It's not for everyone, and I understand that. I'm usually either loved or despised. And perhaps that has held the board back to a small degree, I don't know. All I know is that I can't do it another way.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I didn't really expect a point-by-point response, but getting it provides more insight into what you want the board to be.

I'm by no means thin-skinned, and generally feel comfortable here. I'm probably most sensitive to folks who don't seem to appreciate the true student athletes that pour their heart into their sports at UF. Those athletes who will probably never make a dime, doing it as a labor of love. I understand that not everyone shares that opinion. I'm also willing to cut a coach a bit more slack than most. Wasn't a Muschamp fan after just a few games, nor much of a McElwain fan either. That said, I at least try to support them while they are coaches here, though those two made it very difficult.

Thanks again for providing GC. It's truly one-of-a-kind.

Hell, I barely noticed you until you called me a Bama fan. That got my attention.

P.S. - I've said it before: PE is a great guy, we just view the world differently. If I needed help with something, there's no doubt in my mind he would drop everything and help me.

He's a good man.....just mentally ill.
