Everyone says "tHeY lOSt 4 Ol sO tHey WiLl sTrugGle bC pOtaTo".

The truth is, we lost 4 Butterish OL. We will be fine on the OL. At least as good as last year, and by the end of the year, much better.
I so totally agree that I just had to say so. By mid-season, we could be a team that no one wants to play.

Therefore, EJ has shown no potential.
(That's as biased as saying Franks can develop no better.)

Last year, not once did Mullen send EJ in to bail out a faltering Franks. Many ignore that EJ didn't even get enough playing time to be on a true schedule as a backup QB. So, Mullen viewed Franks as much better to invest time in or he would have used EJ more. Why was EJ used too little last year?
I don't think anyone doesn't see great potential in EJ. I do however agree that he wasn't ready to step right in last season and take over. What transpires next season is quite possibly another story altogether. But for the moment, it does appear that FF is clearly in the driver's seat.

Mullen will have EJ ready....he has no choice. Franks is sometimes too reckless with his running in my opinion and teams will be looking to take him out.

The nightmares of Missouri and KY just won't go away for some reason....

I understand, but that was then and this now. Personally, I'm bolstered by the memory of a 10-win season in which we finished much stronger than we were at the start. I also think that the two teams you mentioned are going to face a very focused, considerably deeper and generally more talented Gator team this year. I agree with donkey. The trend is up and we have time to iron out the kinks on the OL before hitting the meat of the schedule in October.

IMO, many of the issues we had with inconsistent play last year came about as a result of the hangover effect stemming from the misery and futility of the previous regime/season. I truly expect that UF will be a real handful for anyone they play, particularly in the latter part of the season. The days of poorly conditioned, scarcely coached, unmotivated zombies masquerading as the Florida Gators are over. There will be some bumps and disappointments along the way, but if the recent past is prologue, the future is bright.

I'm on the Mullen bandwagon 1000%. Just being cautiously optimistic until he gets the roster balanced out.

Well, Im maybe 60-80%, depending on the day, and the roster imbalance continues, just at different positions.

My thoughts are.. Can we hang until mid season? Our OL from now on will be light years ahead of Chump and Butter Shark.

Strange and S&C will keep us ahead of last year...Just think 2020 and beyond...OL, running QB, Deep Secondary, and Great Special Teams

So, is Lamical just trying to talk up his buddy?

Hard hitter doesn't always equal great football player. The kid has been injured his whole career and we haven't heard his name much so far in the spring, except for the little clip from Perine. He's a redshirt junior and has appeared in 4 games, on ST's, in his entire career. He may be content w/ playing ST's and getting a UF degree, but as far as being a contributor on this D it's not looking good.

Guess i was just stunned to hear him mentioned. I've really never heard much about him during his career (and even had to look him up because I didn't know his first name).

Just discovered he missed last season after tearing his achilles in August, and only played 4 games in '17, all on ST; redshirted after another injury in '16. Guess this spring is his last chance?

I'm not sure it's his "last chance", but he doesn't seem to be moving into a starting role. We keep hearing the same names. If he's a ST's demon, that's fine, we need those. And if he's "the hardest hitter on the team" then ST's is a good place for him.

ST, boy do we need a kick-return threat for the enthusiasm it injects & the best field position.

That's one big strong mofo who can apparently move pretty well for his gigantic size. He seems like he might be the seventh or even sixth man on the OL.

Was Jalapeno our last true freshman to start game 1?

Savage has whipped that kid into shape in short order.

It can't be overstated how important it was for Mullen to have Savage here. Guy has made a world of difference.
