I'm not and never have been a big Tiger fan, but I must admit it's quite remarkable how he has been able to overcome serious back problems (for how much longer is anybody's guess), work his way back as a contender, and top a strong leaderboard to win a fifth green jacket. I grew up watching Jack Nicklaus and hate the thought that Tiger could conceivably tie or eclipse his Masters and majors records. It's hard for an old guy like me to let go of my heroes I guess.
But I've got to hand it to Tiger, it would have been easy for him to sit back and enjoy the good life. Yet he worked to get himself back in the conversation of the sport he ruled for a while. Even though I'm not crazy about the part of his private life that was exposed, I have to applaude his return. His mother, children, and girlfriend were a warming touch as he exited 18 green, though the gf's getup was eerily similar to the one Jodie Foster wore as her character "Iris" in Taxi Driver. Still, he hugged her last and least, so maybe his priorities have improved.
Anyway, I hope this young bunch that is on top today will embrace the opportunity to compete with him and not wilt in his presence like many did when he was in his prime (though today was reminiscent to an extent). The game needs more of these kind of rivalries IMHO instead of the photo plays of the players tubing or getting massages together.
