No. He had some learning to do. Florida is not an OJT type of place. MSU is.

Oh yeah ... I see your point. The Daz, Muschamp and Butters was much better and letting UGA get a foothold.

I can't think of a better coach that could have taken the roster on that 2010 team and built.

Actually Chump proves my point. He was not ready to be a head coach in the SEC. And I didn't understand then why we settling for coaches -in-training. Chump appears to be a better head coach at SC than he ever was here. (That's not saying much tho.)

In 2010, DM had been a head coach for one year. Not enough time in my opinion to develop his craft. Now we are the beneficiary of his 9 years experience as a head coach in the SEC before taking over here.

Yeah ... you make some strong points there. No way having Mullen then instead of Chump would have us better off.

lol ... its like you are arguing with me to prove my point better.

.
Because we prefer to save money by paying coaches about half the going rate of a legitimate P5 coach, then fire them and pay three of them.

Just a reminder we are paying chump 4 mil this year, Butters 4.5, and Mullins six mil.

I dare you to find other team that is paying 14.5 to save money with bargain coaching hires.

Fooley the GOAT.

If I had to hazard a guess, I would think that you don't hold Foley in very high regard. No?

Are you really this dense? Or is it teacher work day and you're really bored?

All I'm trying to argue is that the Florida job is not for coaches-in-training.

Guess I could ask the same of you. All I was trying to state within the reality of what actually occurred, think of how much better our program would have been with Mullen instead of Chump and Butters. You are the one that took a left turn and made it a coaching search thread by talking about the horror Chump brought on to our program. And ... oh yeah ... sure looked like Mullen had the same problem as a first time head coach as Chump too. Derp.

Imagine how different the program would be had we went hard after Mullen when Urban retired the first time.

I see your point, but I firmly believe we are benefiting from his time spent honing his head coaching skills at MSU. He was ready for this job, and we needed him.....desperately. His head is in the right place & he's focused.

We are done paying Chump last year.

Ocala.com

We also are not paying Butters 4mill this year. We are paying him about 750k times five times over the next 4 years.

So basically we are paying only Mullen's salary, +750k for butters.

Yeah yeah yeah ... I get that. But we also suffered a big decline with the chump butters route as well. Its also notable to recognize that any viable option knew the roster like Mullen in 2010.

Look ... I didn't mean to go down the coaching search rabbit hole ... I was merely saying, in hindsight, knowing the dumpster fire that chumps and butters turned the program into, just think how much better shape the program would have been had Fooley hired Mullen in 2010 versus the route we actually went. TBH, I dont even really remember if Mullen was a realistic candidate in 2010 (buyouts and stuff like that), but just throwing the hypothetical out there. As far as the whole training on the job and he we are benefiting from his experience at MSU angle, totally agree ... but I think I would have much rather let him learn on the job here over the last 9 years versus plummeting to the bottom with the buttered chump era. The only thing I will say about what might be different ... I am not so sure the fans would have liked it as much as we do now ... but again, that references having to go down hard for a while as well.

Hindsight is 20/20 ... so my statement is just that.

Two points:

1. Mullen inviting great Gators to speak to the team reminds of Spurrier. He used to do the same thing. Obviously a good move.
2. My daughter went to Gators gymnastics camp last summer and McMurtry--who is one of (maybe THE) best gymnasts of all time--was super nice and down to earth. What a great Gator.
