I would have a better chance of hitting the Lotto, Mega Millions and Powerball the same week than that happening...

Would you be willing to to admit he isnt as bad as you said.

Would you want him to return as a sr? Or is your hate that big?

Have a feeling i know the answers from certain people. At worst i'm giving Law another place to get more posts.

I wanted Franks on the field ASAP in 2017 because there was no potential upside to LDR etc. The whole program imploded, credit cards being the presenting issue, and his coaching was legendarily awful, so it wasn’t fair to blame him for anything.

My concern was/is whether or not he could develop with solid coaching. Clearly he has. From the 2nd half of the SC game on, he has looked much better. But they were down to walk-on DBs, F$U was in a shambles and Michigan wasn’t at full strength nor ready for the game. Still, he capitalized on all that and took a major step forward for himself and the program.

I’m still not sure how much upside is yet to emerge. He didn’t have the HS tutelage to be polished early - can he ever catch that up? Does he have the competitive fire to drive the long, lonely hours of prep mentally and physically? Can he build on his leadership? That will tell the tale. I’m pulling for him.

Sure, Tebow was a Mack Truck of a QB and Percy was a freak athlete, but those guys HATED to lose. You can’t coach that. Players can infect each other with it, but it’s internal.

And I don’t care how many yards rushing or passing that involves. 3,000 yards passing would likely mean a huge year for Franks and the team.

If he's even slightly better than average this year he'll get close to 3,000 with the best group of WR's in the conference...Be interesting to see how many rushing yards he ends up with and what kind of rushing numbers Perine, Davis and Co. end up with. Speaking of Davis I sure hope we get him involved in some screen plays with his burst of quickness I could see him making some long gainers....

I think all of this is true, but only if the o-line can do their job. And how sure are we of that?

Guys EA no longer makes the NCAA football games for your game consoles, so this is just a pipe dream.

Big plays by WRs come from Franks getting the long-ball to them. And Franks did that last year .

This is not accurate but I’ve seen others mention it too. Just because Franks has a big arm does not mean he completes long passes. It’s the opposite for him. He was one of the worst in FBS in completion rate and passer efficiency on passes traveling more than 15 or 20 yards downfield in the air (or at least he was heading into the last few games of the year. I’m not sure if his improvement moved him from the bottom but he still wasn’t even in the mediocre to good category on long passes).

I watched Franks hit WRs just inside the goal-line from 20 yards away, Repeatedly, I was startled that he pulled that off. UF hasn't had any of that for 10 years. Those longer pass plays are being called because Mullen knows we have a QB with a good chance of completing those.

Last year ... FF completed 59 passes 15+ yards. Naysayers try to claim FF's passes were short and his receivers tacked on long breakaway runs ... there were no zig-zag runs of those. Can't call a long YAC all WR if QB hits him in full-speed stride. What happened was FF hit a WR in stride at 15 yards and that WR's momentum tacked on 5 more yards for a 20 yard pass play.

FF 2018 : 12 TD passes of 18+ yards in 13 games.
Char. S. .... 34 yd TD to Grimes
UK .... 18 yd TD pass to M.Stephens
CSU ....... 18 yd TD to Swain ....35 yd TD pass to Jefferson
UT .... TD to Swain 65 yds ...... to Cleveland 38 yd TD
UGa .... TD to Swain 38 yds
USC .... to Toney 18 yd TD
Idaho .... 52 yd TD to Pitts .... Cleveland 34 yd TD
FSU ,,,, Grimes 22 yd TD pass .... Jefferson 38 yd TD pass

If Franks digresses, none of that will denigrate me for expecting that he will improve in 2019.

78 thinks anything better than 100th is elite these days.

You try arguing that Franks is not elite if he racks up 3,500 yards this season against SEC defenses. You all but acknowledged it earlier in this thread.

3500 yards isn’t a lot in today’s game. He can get there in 13 games by averaging 269 yards per game.

He won't throw for 3500 yards because that's not how our offense works. If he throws for that many yards, then we lost a lot of games.

SEC defenses are trash vs the pass.

And what I said was Wuerffel's numbers were skewed by the stat rules of the day and SOS tendency to give him days off or early showers.

Dak Prescott threw for 3,749 yards in 2015. MSU finished the year ranked #3.

Mullen goes with the flow. If he's got a quarterback who can chuck it, he will within the parameters of his playbook.
