And what is "going on at UF"? What am I missing? Are you implying the entire team is a bunch of rapists or something?

No one said running an SEC asylum was going to be easy.

Mullen phucked up, plain and simple.

It's overcomable, but it will test a ton of patience.

At this rate we are basically on our 5th Mac level recruiting class in a row now. Won't effect 2019 but sets us back a year to get where we need to be probably.

So Steele asked for a roommate switch in the spring because he didn't like Jones, and was told he would be moved during the summer. Then Jones got accused of sexual assault, which I guess validates the concerns Steele had about his personality flaws or whatever. But that is Steele's reason for transferring? I call B.S.

I highly doubt Steele had told the coaches that the reason he didn't like Jones was because the guy was a potential rapist. More like he just didn't get along with him. It's not likely that the coaches had any reason to think it was some sort of emergency situation. So they told him he could be moved in the summer, so as not to make waves.

In order to give Steele a different room assignment in the middle of the semester, somebody else would've had to move to accommodate it. Not to mention, if you let one kid move, pretty soon it's a Chinese fire drill with everybody wanting to be paired with the roommate of their choice.

I agree 100% with those who have said Steele is just using this as an excuse to get out of his commitment to UF. Looks to me like he's someone we're better off without. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya, crybaby.

:wellbye:
You're taking a lot of liberties here. Let's see the whole story before we bash a kid that may have been trying to do the right thing. I'm not sure it is wise to blame this kid and ignore something potentially going ok on with our football team.

Something going on like what? Unless you have specifics, you're the one taking liberties and I am commenting on the facts that are known.

There are some RUMORS. And I mean RUMORS. That some staff members talked the girls into not pressing charges.

No I'm not. Do you know the whole story? I'm sure you don't. All I said it let's hear from everybody first. You are making up this homesick crap to justify bashing him. He knew JJ was a POS. The coaches ignored him. Now we lose both. It's stupid.

Steele can't win here. If he's hanging with Jones, he's scum. It he's trying to distance himself, he's a baby.

Innocent until proven guilty, but there's a plume of smoke surrounding Jalon Jones. Turns out Steele had a better nose for it than his own coach.

I think it’s probably a little bit of everything. To Gordon’s(and others) point, you can’t really fault Mullen if it was just based on not liking a roommate. I seriously doubt the staff had any clue of the gravity of the situation and just told him to suck it up. Once they would’ve realized all of this, it was probably too late.

By the same token, I can’t blame Steele’s parents for being a little shaken that an apparently good kid is dealing with this in his first few months on campus on the other side of the country. If there was any inclination that Steele or his parents were having second thoughts, that likely just tipped the scales completely. I’d want to make sure my kid was as far away as possible from something that could derail his career before it begins.

I doubt he’ll keep his word of not saying another word about this (and that run-on sentence is a little bothersome), but assuming this is the extent of the airing of dirty laundry from the Steele family, I have no issue with his leaving.

And, broken record mode here, but we know these risks going in. A kid from Pahokee or Jax or Atlanta probably sticks it out. It’s a black eye and it sucks. But no point in bashing anyone, imo. May as well move on and learn from it.

Yes we still don't know what we don't know. Are coaches covering for someone, did Steele or his parents talk with Mullen, was Steele unhappy before the Jones incident, and more. The Jones incident on it's own doesn't seem to justify a transfer. It seems like there is more to the story. You would think that Mullen would have been very involved here and done everything he could to keep his "crown jewel" of the recruiting class. Maybe he did , but the negative media spin will be the real damage. Not sure if Mullen can comment but it may benefit the program to get his side of the story. It just looks like an issue that could have been resolved by Coach Mullen before it got this far. We need more information.

This whole fiasco is going to set us back another 10 years. As mentioned last night, this Steele announcement was only one of a few to follow. There's more to come out. I was just starting to come around that Mullen might actually be decent for this University.
