When viewed from that perspective, Steele isn't really coming off as the clean name he is trying to keep clean.
He also committed three times and transferred once three months after reporting to campus.

That will be viewed as a red flag I suspect.

Wasn’t Grimes transfer because of his mom’s health and that asswipe Zach Smith?

Yes on the first. Not sure if the second truly contributed or not. And Shuler came here from WVU to play on a better team, similar to Ryan Smith, Cody Riggs(to ND), etc. There was never any hint that they were running from anything.

I'm not fan of twitter, to be clear. However, outside of the 5 people in that apartment, there likely aren't any people that have more feel of what happened that night and where Steele's overall head was at than the coaches and players on his team that just spent the bulk of the last 3 months with him. So while I don't really like bashing a kid, I do think their implying that this is more than just about an incident in April should hold some water.

The coaches are going to take that high road that several have mentioned, and for a host of reasons. The players aren't held to that standard and are going to call it like it is. It's hilarious that some here don't like it.

They're about as unbiased as you're going to get in this case. We gladly, and correctly lapped up all those comments from outgoing players about how bad conditions were under McElwain, considering them to be as close to gospel as it gets. Outside of twitter handles, how is this any different?

Yeah lets take shots at the guy who is still a gator....

It was after all just a little joke about a much acclaimed recruit / player who hasn't yet done anything due to a relatively minor, seemingly chronic injury. And if Copeland can take shots at people after not doing much himself, so can we. The jokes will stop the instant he makes an electrifying play that justifies the hype.

Neil Blackmon is a clown and a half. So is albaverdi. I have zero doubts these jerk offs dont have a clue of what went down.
I'm sure steele and his family want to be separated from this situation all together. I understand that and would probably want my son home if his name was coming up in headlines with a rapeist.
I'm not sure if he acted heroically or got denied a roommate swap or not. I don't know if I buy that part. But the players need to let this go. Just a really bad look.

Remember the Jameis Winston alleged rape? Jameis got off scot free while the two roommates who busted in on him got suspended. They had to issue apologies. I wouldn't be surprised if this comes back to that. Title IV stuff for walking in the room and laughing.

Just like twitter, messageboard reporting, like the one by Bowl that you used as reference in this very thread, is in the same category of "isn't slightly related to reality".

However, when you take into account the argument made in context with the police report, it does kinda add up. Not sure who typed it here in this thread or made the 'inference' that Steele actually stopped a double rape (do you remember?), but that seems like a big 'bowl' of "isn't even slightly related to reality" reporting and jump to conclusion as well. It is really started to sound more and more like the roommates jokingly busted in on JJ and girl 1 as a joke and then left. Only after the girl was embarrassed by that incident did she say no while he continued (which is rape).

IIRC, that was the Donk. And by my phones post number count it was #100.

Can't remember who said it, but i think they are right and a big reason Steele wont be back. Every time his name is mentioned, announcers will tie him in with the rape case.

Sure does. But ... there are so many red flags in this situation it is really hard to find solid ground to make a case in any direction. My experience in situations like this ... everyone has dirt on them.

Good lord ... myopic poster is myopic.

So ... when he is playing at another school, it will just magically not get mentioned why he is at that school? I would offer it will get mentioned more.

Had he stayed at UF announcers likely never mention it...now they will frequently

Not sure I agree with that. I think it may be more likely if transfers weren't so commonplace today and/or if he was an established player in his second or third year where the whole fiasco gained even more attention. And of course, if he'd been implicated at all in the matter. As it is, he was a bystander to an alleged assault, and is probably a few years away from gaining any real recognition on the field. By then, I imagine it's just kind of skipped over. Could be wrong.

There will be some sort of explanation required as to why he left UF. This will at a minimum prompt people to look it up themselves. Where as if he would just stay then it would be water under the bridge. IMO. I think it is deeper. I think there is dirt. I think him and hill busting in on Jones and the girl is going to be a big issue. The Issue.

I have no idea to what extent Steele did or did not "do the right thig" in this whole sorry, sordid mess. Frankly, at this point in time, I'm ready to accept his departure, or his return, with a shrug and no ill will - and then move the phukk on. My greatest concern is that any lessons or remedial action that can be gleaned from this fiasco be taken and fully implemented without delay. Cutting out any "cancers" that may still be present, plus taking decisive measures to minimize such problems in the future, would be the closest thing to a happy ending we're likely to see. Peace out.

He is screwed. Yes they will mention it. But at another school without the every game on national tv, it wont be said so much.
