Last weekend was a long weekend of putting together some furniture so saw a few movies while working and two in theatres:
John Wick 3 - Parabellum (2019): I have stated before I'm a huge fan of the world built up in the first two John Wick movies, and this film was supposed to go further into that world. It was disappointing. The movie time is roughly two and a half hours and the middle 40 minutes didn't make sense after the whole story unfolds felt in the end like a waste of time. Winston might be my favorite character in the series at this point followed very closely by Charon. The whole John Wick story has become meh. The action sequences are still pretty top notch except in my opinion as Mrs Dougie called it the video game boss fight with the ninja that felt very Matrix: Reloaded long for the sake of being long (though very talented martial artists). It was still a fun watch, but not as fun as the other two and should have waited for streaming or Blu-ray release. I give it a 6/10.
ThreatMatrix Matrix: no boobs or bush in this film.
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018): I was excited to see this movie and was glad when it popped on HBO. The wife and I got some good Chinese food (it does exist) and watched this. The movie starts off excellent with solid actors and great premise. Then the story unfolds, starting off very interested and devolving into something that climaxes in almost a paint by numbers way that really dumbs down the initial idea. Their was an unnecessary amount of Jennifer Hudson singing, some of which perfectly fit the plot some of it that felt like time filling. The acting from John Hamm and Jeff Bridges was excellent, and the rest of the case was good but not great. I'm glad I wait until it was "free" on HBO, I give it a 5/10.
ThreatMatrix Matrix: one boob scene in a flash back in the background.
Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019): My daughter loved the first one and I felt it was enjoyable. The movie starts out showing Duke and Max's lives and how they have changed with the change in their owners lives. The group of pets felt more spread out in this movie, so there are a lot of stories that are spread out through out the movie, and it wasn't as cohesive as the first one. The movie was still fun for what it is, and my daughter and her best friend giggled and laughed through out the movie. I don't think it was anywhere close to the first movie, but still a fun time 7/10.
ThreatMatrix Matrix: no boobs/bush you nasty freaks
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse (2018): Little late to the party on this one have owned it and daughter has watched if over and over since it came out, but didn't watch until I she wanted to and I was building stuff in the same room. Might be the most interest Spider-Man movie I've ever seen. The different multi-verse versions of Spider-Man are interesting to say the least, and I knew of all but one before the movie (daughter loves her some spider-gwen) but it was fun to see them on the screen. The art style is top notch and the story is solid. I give it a solid 8/10.
ThreatMatrix Matrix: You degenerates looking for cartoon boobs.... damn you Urg.
The Meg (2018): Deep Blue Sea meets worse writing. The wife loves shark movies, especially of the horror variety. This is a movie you could feel the fact they had a lot of Asian market money to help fund it due to the multiple references. The story is basically Jason Stathan is a rescue diver (?) and is brought it to save a group of scientists who found a big ass shark in deepest depths of the ocean. Upon the rescue they the allowed a path for the shark to follow them up to the shallower waters for a brief moment by warming the waters. Then shark attacks and a lot of stupid stuff occurs. The movie is dumb but you know what you are getting into when you are picking it. It's entertaining enough for what it is 6.5/10.
Threat Matrix Matrix: no boobs/bush... but could have used some.
Geostorm (2017): This is hot garbage for the sake of hot garbage. Man creates weather creating satellite, something goes wrong. The government calls in the guy who helped to develop the satellite to fix it. They find it's a government conspiracy. A lot of global warming and government conspiracy stuff through out the film. It's bad, not Dolemite bad... but bad. It is entertaining in a bad movie kind of way but I could have gone my whole life without seeing it and been perfectly fine. Mrs Dougie found it a little more entertaining, but she watched it because it was bad. I like Gerard Butler think he has had some enjoyable films (300, Law Abiding Citizen), but this was another one of his really hammy parts that was just funny to watch. I give it a 3/10.
