I like it. It gives coach’s a way to process out players who will never contribute or will always be a pain in the ass. Especially the Steele types who will use it to run back to Mommy for a hug, or who get their snowflake panties in a wad because they aren’t starting. And it is good for the graduate transfers to get some PT while they still have eligibility.

Overall a positive in my mind.

It will adjust itself because kids can see that very few of them have actually transferred. Too much supply, not enough demand.
Are you guys under the impression somehow that we didn't have transfers before the portal thingy?

It would be interesting to see a study of success/failure rates for transfers in and out. My initial thought was that a guy is unlikely to change with a change of scenery. Whatever was not working won’t. But it does help some guys find a better fit. Sticking to the Gators, add to my lists (or argue them):

Ins that played well:
Trace Armstrong
Ryan Smith
Travis Carroll
Van Jefferson
Trayvon Grimes
Adam Shuler

Outs that played well:
Cam Newton
Will Grier
Nyan Boateng
Jordan Conkrite

Ins that did little to nothing:
Brian Fox
Vannez Gooch
That Butters OT from Fordham

Outs that did nothing:

I’d add Max Garcia to the ins that played well. Pretty sure he made all SEC. (2nd team maybe?)

Kent Taylor never did much after leaving and he was one of the top rated TEs in the country coming out of high school.

QB Max Staver never did anything after leaving.

O lineman Ian Silberman did his last year at BC after not starting but a few games here and played some years in the NFL after that.

Tyler Murphy did alright after leaving considering everything and Driskel also.

Kent Taylor went to the NFL and so did his stable mate Colin Thompson.

Mason Halter was the OT from Fordham. Sure, he wasn't that good....but he started 11 games. I wouldn't call that "nothing". Yes, I know, he got trucked by the FSU kid...but imagine how bad his backup was.

Butters brought in the grad transfer QB from Vandy (Grady?) and the LB from Ga Tech - both did "nothing". Zaire (QB from ND) did very little.

Some of our transfers (out) who did well:

Eric Kresser won an NC as the starting QB at Marshall.
Antwan Chiles (QB) started for two or three years at Liberty and set records.

Skyler Mornhinweg started 12 games at Columbia:

Brock Berlin was an off and on starter for two years at Miami.

Some of you have low standards on what classifies as "good." Nyan Boateng wasn't good at Cal. Morhinweg was straight garbage at Columbia. Mason Halter might be the worst offensive lineman in Gator history. Who cares if he was a starter. Kid sucked ass and his bench press at his pro day was comedy gold.

His press was 100 lbs once it seems like....it was unbelievable whatever it was.

I've said this many times:

I think any player should get 1 "Free" Transfer (Any reason)...Especially in the first year or if the coach leaves.

That said, I think a commitment made any time in a HS Senior Year should be binding…No verbals…you sign then and there.

Once you sign…you owe one full season except in the first year BEFORE the first game…No quitting mid- season.

And every player must play the entire season (even BOWLS) before he can declare for the draft. IMO
