I suspect that the desire to get back to where SOS and Urbs had the program caused many to put aside their common sense and be overly optimistic. Muschamp's second season fooled me for awhile, though the lack of offense was giving me a nagging feeling. It took the Vandy game the next season for my eyes to become completely open - I'll never understand him being given a fourth season after that and the Ga. Southern disaster. The Butters hiring did not excite me, though none of the other names I was hearing did much for me either. He too fooled me and after the Ole Miss game I was thinking maybe we were on our way back. It wasn't until the next season's loss to UT, where we blew a 21-0 lead and the blowouts by Arky, FSU, and Bama that I realized the truth. The opener against Meatchickin the next season removed all doubt. Having finally recognized that I am a slow learner in this area, I went the other way with CDM and greeted his hiring with great pessimism. I'm still not totally sold (and was greatly troubled by the Mizzou loss) as I can't help but wonder if last season's final four victories was the product of playing some bad or undermanned teams. (USCe, Idaho, FSU, and a Meatchicken team whose previous game was a blowout loss and was missing several of their better players.) I badly want to be able to pump (especially being around so many dwag fans), but just don't feel it yet. I will say CDM is a far better coach than either Muschamp or Butters and has done a lot to improve the state of the program (if no where else than in the S&C program). I have no idea if he can get us back to where we were, but I do suspect he won't get us there quickly.
