Whatever his reputation was, Steele's fiasco didn't help.

Not debating whether or not Mullen is a lights-out recruiter. But I totally disagree with your post. Honestly, every week that passes, this looks more and more like a vindication of the staff and our handling of Steele's "problem". There isn't a shred of evidence that supports any of the accusations or his arguments for leaving. Rather, not only do you have former teammates calling him out, there are actions by Steele himself that make this look like exactly what was speculated on here--a kid having second thoughts and being a diva.

The only fiasco was that we recruited someone on the other side of the country. Hopefully we learned a lesson there.

Not sure we dodged anything. The bullet already hit us and Mullenziz reputation on the recruiting trail is still bleeding everywhere. Would have rather kept him, and if he was a bust, let him transfer quietly to a directional school.

Nobody cares now what he does, because no one is following thia outside of us and maybe Oregon.
Him looking at another school other than Oregon takes a little of the stink off of Mullen. He’s starting to look like a prima Donna.

And the rapist. Who was kicked out of his first HS. And his second.

That was a character misstep without question. But other than providing a smokescreen, it almost certainly had nothing to the Steele “fiasco”.

If it wasn’t the “trauma” of pointing and laughing as two people have sex and the roommate swap request, it would’ve been the fact that Albert wears a turtleneck but no pants, or something else. The reality is he no longer wanted to be a Gator. Aside from factoring in these things going forward with regards to WC recruiting, there’s not much that Mullen could’ve done or can do from here.

UF signed 4 CBs in the 2019 class. They are listed by height at 6'1.5", 6'1", 6' and 5'10" tall. My guess as always is that the taller two are likely college safety prospects.

So I suspect that Steele might not have been able to deal with the prospect of being a safety and was not ready yet to deal with the overall level of athleticism on the practice field. He will get to Oregon and find college athletics is highly competitive everywhere. Whether or not UF dodged a bullet, it is always a safe bet when a guy leaves, he was not finding it so easy you knew for sure he would be a star in college.

You are completely misunderstanding my point. I have not blamed Mullen for anything in my post. In fact if you look at my posts from that thread, I was extremely skeptical of Steele's narrative. All I did was respond to "we dodged a bullet" by saying the damage was already done. To the outside world that does not delve into the details, it made Mullen look bad. No one outside of UF cares what Christ Steele does now.

Whether Mullen was at fault or not, it does not matter, the perception has been damaging. We are already having an uphill battle with mediocre recruiting without these things piling on

Well, if we were hoping he’d stop putting himself on a pedestal, that just went out the window.

Fair enough and I agree with the uphill battle. But I do think it’s getting more attention than you think, which does help us. Several Oregon posters on Rivals sound pretty much like us a few weeks back. He’s making a favorable story into a very unfavorable one, and quickly. That was my point. I think the more this plays out, the better we look.

The athletic has an article on this guynow. Here are some “high”lights - A conversation with Chris Steele: The now-USC cornerback...

He is, for the third time, fully committed to a school. It’s USC. Maybe all those home sick arguments were on to something.

“So what’s happened over the past month since you left Florida?

Just because the NCAA works in a funny way, I don’t really want to talk about Florida. I have my statement written up to the NCAA. I left Florida because I was in a bad situation and I didn’t want to be in that type of environment. That’s the easiest way to sum up for me. I came back home.
. . . But, unfortunately, just because I’m one of the top recruits in the country doesn’t always mean that life is going to work in my favor.”

Comments - first the back homerefwrence meant west coast Bc he was referring to Oregon. The last line is a window into his mindset.

More homesickness: “My mom ended up getting laid off. It was going to be a financial hardship for her to be able to come watch me play. My mom has never missed one of my games before. Going to Oregon seemed like a really good idea.”

Comment - this wasn’t about JJ. It was always a bs cover, not a wanna be rape police officer fleeing the scene of the crime.

Even Oregon was too far from home - “During my visit (last week), Oregon paid for both my parents to go. But I usually take my little sister on my visits, and when we looked at plane tickets, they were like $450 for her. With my mom being laid off, it was financially going to be nearly impossible for them to be able to come support me and give me the support I need.”

And to complete the hardship cry, his grandma is on dialysis, so he had to stay home. If you are USC players, you probably can’t wait to have someone so excited to join your team. He openly talks about his love of Oregon more than anything USC offers, which was just a “spot” that had to open up.

He said by going to USC he can help support his family. Dafuq? Is he openly talking about getting paid?

Also, faith. That made him stay close too. Don’t forget the faith.

His hardest part in the process was telling an Oregon coach he already said no to, no again. It wasn’t leaving a group of teammates he trained with for 4 months. That is tellling.

He makes a point to thank all the Oregon coaches and fans. Says he has a genuine love for them. Again, silence on UF.

This was not about a roommate getting in trouble.

I agree completely. I do think it can be an eye opener for these guys to get across the country and the expenses of parents following them. I also think as I alluded to above an eye opener be top recruit and all of sudden you run into a roster of guys just as athletic as you.

The interesting thing is that if he did go to UF and was disappointed about how he was treated upon arrival, that he seems to think that will be different else where. It will be interesting to see, how he adjusts to SoCal who also have a very talented roster year in and year out no matter what their record is or how lacking the coaching is.

That homesick flip flopping bitch.

Mea culpa. Who knows what cybil said to the staff?

I was wrong. Give me my crow pie.

No more Calif kids. If any of our staff is sent out there Mullen should get kicked in the nuts.

Dooley is lazy, but I've never seen him as a liar. He reported that mama was on the phone with Steele almost every night in tears because he was on the other side of the country. So, he went back home. Instead of being a grown man, he used the JJ incident as an excuse and tried to save face. His teammates knew it which is why they reacted the way they did.

Swamp Donkey looks pretty dumb with this news. He’s gone strangely silent.
How so?

The rapes still occurred? Just bc you people changed the subject and bytched about Steele.

Jones is still gone. He was still a terrible sign give that he had been kicked off two teams in HS.

Steele and every other Cali kid is at least a huge danger of being soft and a waste of time for us to recruit there. It was always a recruiting failure to spend months there.

Nice try for some offseason trolling though. I applaud the effort.

Cali 5 *=3*.

But Bowman ,Steele and Jones are still gone. We cant land anything but leftovers in FL and are recruiting only slightly better than Butters.

Say what? Nice deflection. Don't make me post up your quotes. You chastised and mocked anyone who even suggested Steele may have left because he wanted to be closer to home. You owe several people an apology. Now say you're sorry.

P.S. - If you go back and edit your old posts again you'll be banned for life.
