Can Feleipe Franks be a top-tier QB in 2019?

I was firmly planted on the Ox Bandwagon indubitably believing EJ would literally and figuratively pass FF in Spring. Alas and alack, not to be. FF has shown quite the committment and resolve therefore I am honorbound to give him his props due. How high he climbs the elite QB ladder this year is more dependent on OL play (double duh) than his perceived lack of field vision carryover from early last year. 65% comp/4K yds/30 tds is not an insurmountable bar.

But, then again, wtf do I know since I was abducted by aliens 10 years ago and did on me sum o' them thar sexshal thangs that left me hung like a Tijuana Show Donk (no relation).

Think of it as preparation for an exciting new career.

Honestly, finishing at least top 5 in that pile of shyt wouldn't be a big lift regardless. Hell he could regress a bit and still be top 5.

My thoughts are...he improves...based on 2018 Spring Game vs 2019 spring Game.

But there is Serviceable/Good and there is Top Tier.

Many on here are far better at coaching and analyzing talent then me. Can you really coach Field Presence?

I know what see I on the field and IMHO, FF can be very good but not elite or great.
If he achieves "very good" after the 2 years of coaching malpractice he's working to overcome, I will consider that a "great" outcome indeed. DM and staff will deserve major props if FF makes the same degree of improvement that has already occurred during the new regime.

Franks probably isn't going to be a top 10 QB in the nation, but it's not unreasonable to think he'll be a top 5 QB in the SEC. He's got the physical tools, more experience with the playbook, and lots of weapons that he has more practice and rapport with. I think the offense will be pretty fun to watch this year.

I got Franks as the #3 QB in the SEC next year. I don't see how he can't be unless some other QB comes out of nowhere. Only Fromm and Tua are better than him.

Franks stats:

When playing teams .500 or better (Missouri, Georgia, Michigan, LSU, MSU, Kentucky, South Carolina)

101 of 183, 55.2% completions, 1,135 yards, 6.2 yards per pass, 6 TD 4 Int, Rating 75.74

When playing teams under .500 or lower division teams

87 of 139, 62.6% completions , 1,322 yards, 9.5 yards per pass, 18 TD 2 Int, Rating 127.45
------------------------

If these numbers are true and the totals seem to be correct that is a stark contrast and much more of a difference than most QBs when comparing playing better teams to weaker teams/lower division teams.

They were posted by a Miami fan.

And still better than Perry.

Think of it as preparation for an exciting new career.

Pros:
Always SRO for my Three Babes on a Stick (promo'd as Shish kaBabes) act fo' sho'.
Big (no pun) hit with my neighbors. They call me vice a plumber when their toilets clog.

Con:
Alas, go comatose for 24 hours from blood loss to brain housing group 60 secs after activating Full Show Mode.

From whom to which much has been given, much is expected.

So, all Franks has to do is play as well against winning teans as he already does against losing teams? Piece of cake! The sky is the limit!

I agree. They are more talented... less experienced but the last crew's "experience" was Buttering.

Im just not that concerned about the OL. It won't be better than last year initially. But it won't be worse either.

I'm fairly certain last year was the worst OL we will have under Hevesy and Mullinz. Unfortunately, the tea leaves look like worse defenses to come from Choker.
On this board, talent is everything and coaching is nothing until it comes to our offensive line. Then a bunch of low star, inexperienced linemen are going to be an improvement. Go figure.

I think it will depend on how much he runs the ball this year. I don't see Franks passing ever making him part of a top QB list despite us having one of the best WR groups in the country probably.

His passing is pretty good on the quick stuff.

But I panic every time I see him in the pocket trying to go through 4-5 progressions.

SEC ain't a QB league. It is a LOS league. When you play against crappy DL, like in other leagues, the QB can be a huge difference maker. In the SEC, the O has to multi-dimensional because the LOS play by defenses (and their DCs) in the SEC will shut that QB down.

I dont believe that at all.

Good, even mediocre, offensive teams still light up SEC defenses.

We suck on offense bc we suck on offense and everyone is emulating Saban who admits he despises the forward pass. There are four Muschamps in the SEC East at USC, Uk, Vandy and Ugly. Most of the rest also play ball control offense. The only two who even try to score points are at atm and hapless and untalented Mizzu.

A young Spurrier would destroy this league again today as he did in 1990. This league is probably as bad as it has been in my lifetime.

I think he hit his ceiling last year and that defenses will adjust big time to him this season.

That being said, regardless of opinion, one thing is true. No QB can do anything if they are being put on the ground and hit constantly. Our OL has got to jel and step up from play one of the scUM game.
