Florida increases salary pool for assistants by 14 percent
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida's two new assistant coaches in 2019 were inked to two-year contracts.
The University Athletic Association supplied the contracts to Swamp247 following an open records request. Cornerbacks coach Torrian Gray is slated to make $450,000 per year, while defensive line coach David Turner will make $375,000 per year.
Both are also eligible to receive a $1,500 bonus annually if certain academic marks are met by the players.
With their salaries now known and all of the other assistants remaining under contract through at least the 2019 season, Swamp247 can report that Florida will pay out $5.52 million to its assistants in 2019. That's a 14 percent year-over-year increase, due mainly to a $400,000 increase in defensive coordinator Todd Grantham's salary after an offseason contract extension. Tight end coach Larry Scott also received a scheduled $225,000 raise, though that's mostly a technicality as he was receiving buyout money from Tennessee for the 2018 season.
Regardless, Florida's paying a healthy chunk of change to its assistants.
With a $5.52 million spend on assistants, Florida would have ranked 12th nationally in 2018 according to USA Today database figures. It's also worth noting that Florida does not have state income tax.
