Florida increases salary pool for assistants by 14 percent

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida's two new assistant coaches in 2019 were inked to two-year contracts.

The University Athletic Association supplied the contracts to Swamp247 following an open records request. Cornerbacks coach Torrian Gray is slated to make $450,000 per year, while defensive line coach David Turner will make $375,000 per year.

Both are also eligible to receive a $1,500 bonus annually if certain academic marks are met by the players.

With their salaries now known and all of the other assistants remaining under contract through at least the 2019 season, Swamp247 can report that Florida will pay out $5.52 million to its assistants in 2019. That's a 14 percent year-over-year increase, due mainly to a $400,000 increase in defensive coordinator Todd Grantham's salary after an offseason contract extension. Tight end coach Larry Scott also received a scheduled $225,000 raise, though that's mostly a technicality as he was receiving buyout money from Tennessee for the 2018 season.

Regardless, Florida's paying a healthy chunk of change to its assistants.

With a $5.52 million spend on assistants, Florida would have ranked 12th nationally in 2018 according to USA Today database figures. It's also worth noting that Florida does not have state income tax.

You can view the Top 15 assistant salary pools for 2018 below, as a point of reference.

Bama is getting a good deal there probably due to how many that go there to get their 2nd chance after screwing up.

That is only their 10 on field coached and a few listed others.

They hide all those other assistants and analysts. Hell Bammer even claimed only one S&C coach in a recent survey, even though have all five allowed, plus many S&C assistants and interns. They claimed only thirty assistants total, even then though they "dress" 100 plus (in those white running suits) for championship games.

Edit:Those numbers from "USA Today" are solely on the field assistant pay.

Comparing our 2019 salaries to the 2018 numbers, when we were around 20th, doesnt make sense. Those other schools will be giving raises too.

"It is also worth noting that Florida does not have state income tax."

Fooley always brought this up.

it probably meant something back in the 80s when douchebag moved from Ohio to Florida but not so much today with so many other states having zero or near zero income tax.

We were famous for thinking 2-3% less in tax entitles us to 30-50% off your salary.

Dont get me wrong, no one on that staff but Gray deserves more.

Knox making 450? Good gawd.

C-Rob only makes 90k? That’s just begging another program to poach him. :headslap:
Y’all want to start chipping in for a goodbye care package now or what?

90k is embarrassing for not just your best recruiter but arguably one of your best coaches

Those in charge are just making sure the coaches salaries match the facilities both of which are stuck in 1980.

I'd like to see a breakdown of the ad's office salaries compared to other top programs. Or how about all the non profit activities (everything except football and men's basketball) coaching staffs salaries compared to the rest of the country.

Does he get $90k because he’s still being paid by another program?

No.

You are thinking of Charlton and Knox, the garbage we hired from Tinerc's fired staff.

The next coach on the list makes four times as much? Jeebus that is embarrassing. He's got to be just biding his time and waiting to get a real payday. Somewhere else.

After 29 years away, I moved back to FL in March this year. I thought I would get a pay raise from not paying a state income tax. Well the insurance rates, Homeowners, Auto, Personal Umbrella, etc. ate up my tax savings and then some. Thanks Morgan & Morgan!
