Very sad story. Nobody should die that young. RIP Jared Lorenzen.

I hate this. Always liked they guy. I was by far the best QB on my HS team, but the HC would never give me a shot because I was the biggest guy on the team. 6'3 220 was pretty big for a lineman in the mid 80s. I was basically Tebow running the ball and could throw with the accuracy of Danny.

JLo gave us fat boys hope!!!

He was a larger than life character with a good sense of humor and let's not forget...he was a heckuva QB.

RIP Big Fella.

I wish he could get a second chance to better handle his health. Sure loved ones will miss him. 38 is just too short. Saw him get spun around, tackler holding his right arm. He completed a 12 yard pass throwing it backwards without looking. RIP Jared.

In the 30 year win streak we had against UK, I was never more nervous playing them than when this guy was their QB. If not for some stout D and 21 4th Qtr points by the offense, JL would’ve ended that streak in 2003.

It’s a shame he passed

Cardiac and renal failure at the age of 38. It just goes to show how fragile and tentative life really is. You can be called home at any time through some random, unforeseen, and totally unpredictable event like this.
I assume I missed the sarcasm. Consequences of a ridiculously poor diet or drug addiction are totally predictable. Then again, a random car wreck can call you home at any moment without warning. I'll miss the Round Mound of Touchdowns. Very personable and likable guy. Incredibly fun to watch play. Guys hanging all over him like he's King Kong, still makes the deep throw. Would have enjoyed dining with him at a buffet.

I wonder why gastric by-pass surgery was not pursued.

Supposedly he had dropped from 500 to 400 before this happened. Maybe too much damage already. I don't know if he had problems with anything other than food that contributed.

RIP big guy....

He probably thought he could lose enough on his own and avoid an invasive procedure. The problem is that losing weight is hard, but keeping it off is even harder. People often gain it back. And even some people who under go gastric by-pass will gain some weight back; some a little, some a lot.

So sad. As others all noted, 38 is way too young. RIP, big fella; you were fun to watch.

Very sad indeed. Jared proved you didn't have to be athletic or be in shape for that matter to play the position. It's amazing he tried a comeback in arena football and did pretty well for a brief moment. RIP big guy.
