I’m more impressed that Tre legit has Steph Curry or Thunder Dan range. It will stretch opposing defenses making things easier for White’s offense. Even he can’t mess up such a huge advantage. Can he?

Our playing our best basketball will come down to basics -- just executed swifter than can be defended.
Success requires well-distributed assists by many teammates. Outside bombs will derail our progress.
Throwing it up from far out is lack of faith in real basketball teamwork.
Will White praise that? or demand better % shots?

Please don’t mention Werner. The mere thought of him causes my vomit reflex to trigger.

:barfaway::barfaway::barfaway::barfaway::barfaway::barfaway::barfaway:

Thunder Dan Majerle. Other than Steph, I’ve never seen anyone with his range.

Depends on the shooting percentage. A shooter tends to get a higher volume of shots up. So a 3 pt shooter hitting 40% might go 5-12 from the arc = 15 pts. An inside guy shooting 60% might go 6-10 = 12 points. I’ve always thought you have to let shooters have a green light if they play within the flow of the game and they can shoot above 35% consistently. Outside shooting and ball movement do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Obviously balance is what we really want. It looks like we will have a real nice mix of inside guys, slashers and shooters.

Good reminder, Marine1.
My favorite game last year: It was like Locke and Allen got into a 3-pt duel. Back and forth, 3 times each, each hit their 3 - that was 6 straight 3s. 18 points = opening a gap the opponent could do nothing about. But many more games I saw the other team open further their gap because shooting the 3 was the only answer we pushed.?? Last year, we shot like 33% on 3s. We won at a 20-16 clip.

You're correct, balance is good but only if we shoot real close to 40% from 3. We shot 33%. It's true that we clang-missed too many "at the rim" shots = need better inside shooting % paired with improved outside %. I'm hoping this team's player-blend improves all: rebounds, causing T.O.s, blocked shots, points per possession, etc Go Gators.

Wait. WTF? My main take away from the Springer article is that Mike Miller is an assistant coach at Memphis. Maybe I read that before and forgot it, but it seems weird to have former Gators potentially beating us out for recruits.

Memphis had the #1 class. Miller is the one recruiting Springer. He contacted him and made the offer. In May, Miller delivered a 5* forward and two top 10 (at their position) 4* guards. I guess Miller and White would have played against each other in the late 90's.

White has had a culture problem for 2 seasons. Remember all the "hero ball" comments during the 2017-2018 season? There were still problems last year. White is cleaning house. I love it! This only matters if he changes himself. Stop creating an environment that fosters those kind of attitudes.

I'm not watching close enough to know how low the talent on the roster was, or is becoming. I just feel a little ill watching UK take a fistful of "1-and-done"s every year and sense we're heading that direction under White. To me, it says he can't develop kids (which we've heard on this site for awhile), and that he's shifting to a year-to-year plan based on transfers (known talent level compared to Calipari's HS kids), but it moves our beloved program a step closer to being hired mercenaries, NBA jr. We lose our bonding with players. Maybe that's the way of the future, but for me, it makes me ill, tbh.

Correct. I think White talked with Miller but he chose Memphis, which sucks. However, maybe Miller will work his way up to replace White someday soon :).

SB Nation said:
How Florida won college basketball’s offseason

The Gators have all the pieces to be a national contender this season.

By Ricky O'Donnell Jul 9, 2019, 12:41pm EDT

Replacing a legend was never going to be easy for Mike White. Billy Donovan was the coach who changed everything at Florida, winning back-to-back national titles and altering the Gators’ perception from a football school with a basketball program to a legitimate national brand that annually threatened Kentucky’s reign in the SEC. Donovan still had it rolling when he jumped to the NBA, reaching three straight Elite Eights and one Final Four from 2011-2014 before leaving for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

White hit the ground running upon his arrival from Louisiana Tech, helping Florida win 27 games and leading another Elite Eight trip in his second year on the job in 2017. He’s followed that with back-to-back seasons with 20+ wins and trips to the NCAA tournament. The Gators haven’t taken a noticeable step back under White’s watch, but they also haven’t felt like one of the best teams in the sport, a place they occupied often under Donovan.

That could change next season.

There’s a case to be made that no program in America added more talent this offseason than Florida. The Gators already had the No. 7 overall recruiting class in the country before adding the biggest grad transfer on the market last month in big man
Kerry Blackshear Jr. All the pieces are now in place for a top-10 team in the preseason polls with the potential to run all the way to the Final Four.

If I lived closer I’d get season tickets. Still going to try to get to maybe 5-6 this year. I love how this team has been put together strategically. Can’t wait to see this group ball out.

Looking forward to watching this team, these players grow into a team that hits on all cylinders.
Will enjoy us having several "go-to" guys. Want to see our guys having fun piling up wins - fun for White to loosen him up.
