Alonso is in the running for Rookie of the Year, National League. He won player of the week last week.
"Alonso, has broken the Mets record that's held since 1983 (36 years) Not yet halfway through the season, Alonso has crunched more homers (27) than any other Mets rookie in history.
Alonso blasted his 27th last week, when he batted .427/.548/1.042 (10-for-24) with 7 runs, 3 doubles, 4 homers and 8 RBIs. His home run Sunday broke Darryl Strawberry's record but also extended his NL rookie record for home runs before the All-Star break. He's one shy of Mark McGwire's all-time record for most HRs by a rookie before July 1 (28 in 1987)." Go Gators!
