I know you did undergrad then went back for your Masters. What were your actual student years?

Alex.
started summer of 74 at Santa Fe (much cheaper smaller classes) and finished at UF in 78. Started my MS in 82 and finished 84. Had to do that part time as I was teaching.

So many of you guys at UF in the glory years. My daughter had the Billy/Urban glory years.
BUT she remembers well the SOS time. She was in the van as we cruised up and down Univ Ave
after the 96 title game. She was 12. My son was 7 and it freaked him out. Too much crazy,
That was the last time they left Univ Ave open after a title.

Show me a video from '82 and I'll be impressed.

Good point.

Some of these were previously posted but worth another look.

1964 promotional film. You gotta watch this.

1985 Tom Petty (more about him than the city but really cool)

There is a bunch of newer stuff if you want to get a flavor of modern Gainesville.

Alex.

I swear they had those bowls for $3 and all the terriyaki sauce you could put on it..........I loved it.

I can't remember exactly what it cost but I remember I could afford it at least a few times a week - which was saying something. I also ate a metric ton of Wendy's baked potatoes. Those were $1 if I recall, if you got just the butter and sour cream.

Don't forget Cafe Gardens, Steamers (loose burgers!) right behind Hyde and Zeke records

...and while not on University - SKEETERS. The real one, up 13th street. Live bluegrass at 2am and amazing food.

That is good stuff. Was Granny's still there in 92 next to Eckerd?. Went there for the 99 cent breakfast. How about Larry's ice cream? Still pisses me off to no end that those 3 successful take out places were doing great and then they leveled that corner and it sat empty for over 10 years. Kudos to the Farah's mention b/c Farah's had the best Tuna in a pita in my opinion along with great Spuds!

Sadly, I think Farrah's was awesome for that stretch from 89 to around 93/94 due to a specific cook/chef staff. I remember going back in 96 i think for the 65-0 blowout game and the wings definitely were not the same anymore. We went there EVERY Wednesday night as a group and would drop $200 (including a big tip) on the $5 beer/wings.

In fact I drove through campus yesterday to show my 12 yr old the College of Journalism. She says that is where she is going.

When I was in school, you could point to the J School from the East stands. You simply pointed across the field.

Does anyone actually remember the food after 2 a.m.? It was tall, it was round and it was full of eggs and hash browns. That's about all I can remember of the Asher Special. :-/

Caribbean Spice, cheapest lunch special in town. Meat pie, bread, carrot cake, and a soda for $2.25.
The head shop just down the Ave from the Spice; can’t remember the name. :bandit:

My wife put herself through the school of architecture bartending at The Rancho Deluxe and then Allens Ale House.

Who else worked at any of these places? I worked at the old CJs, Balls, and Joes Deli.
