I basically say the same thing every year but for the first time in many many years, I feel confident in my pick:

15-0 National Champions

Our offense should be the best offense we have seen in Gainesville since 2008. The O-line has 3 starters coming back (Buchannon - Forsyth - Heggie). Those 3 have played enough that we should be ok the first few games.

Our defense should be better. I think Trey will be good enough to handle his new position (not up to Chauncey's standard from last year but still good) and anyone filling the LB spot left by Vosean will be an upgrade. Polite hurts but Grantham can scheme the D into good one on one matchups.

Depth will be an issue on the O-Line and several positions on D.

I am feeling pretty good about the season.

I can't fault you for being positive but I think Zuniga coming close to matching Polite is about the only thing that will play out there. I guess the defense may be about the same which is still a downgrade from recent Gator defenses.

Zuniga was better than Polite last year. Polite was an extreme liability trying to set the edge on outside running plays. really, he should have been playing outside linebacker with a real defensive end in front of him. We just didn't have depth.

Good defense is measured in many things other than sacks.

If it was measured in giving up 3rd downs we would have been near the bottom probably. 3rd and Grantham followed him here.

You think Zuniga will be much better with settng the edge? That transfer appears to have good size.

Zuniga? Hell yeah.

The transfer is a Linebacker. He's the size the rest of our LBs SHOULD be 250-260 lbs.

We were 53rd nationally in 3rd down conversions given up last year at 37.44%.

We were 95th I read in the amount we gave up per game - just over 6 per game I think. I guess the difference is teams had more 3rd downs against us than the average team.

The craziest stats were our red zone defense and allowing teams to score. Not sure if it was mostly FGs or if we had a bad TDs allowed number in the red zone also.

Been waiting until I freed up some more time to address this thread. I predict:

- I will become far more of a pumper by August 21, at which point the rational side of me will have lost the battle to the fanatic that is convinced we are going 12-0 until the SEC Championship game because I bought a new shirt with zero loses in it.
- Our line will be fine, until a couple times when it's not and I will join 80,000 others in sighing and cursing (not booing)
- My bourbon, beer and rum consumption will all increase from August 24-January 13, 2020
- Franks will be substantially improved by his willingness to run. He will not hit 3,000 yards passing, but will clear 600 rushing.
- Pierce will break out with at least 700 yards as a backup.
- Burney will be a massive improvement and, barring injury, a star on defense, second in tackles and leading the team in interceptions
- Wells will not do sh!t
- We will all scream to get the ball to Toney more, Copeland will play the late season 2008 role of Rainey/Demps to Harvin, meaning he will get his 3-5 touches a game, 1 of which every second game he will turn into big plays leading to more complaining about Copeland not getting the ball enough. Toney will get 8-10.
- LawDonk will bytch. A LOT. But, not as much as those bytching about his bytching
- I will like more @ltraz posts than many on here after a win, when he points out that there were some lapses we should shore up. Others will believe Mullen kicked his dog and Traz hasn't gotten over it, thus the nerve of him to criticize deficiencies.
- Ox will not get laid on October 5th
- Third and Grantham will be better, but very much still a thing this year.
- Insti will invent a new statistical analysis for whether our defense is performing moderately above just below almost elite. The math will be simple, yet make no f'ing sense at all.
- SoFla will remain our most consistently entertaining poster, C2 our best storyteller who feeds knowledge as well, and BaitnGator most likely to make me laugh about something I feel too guilty to like
- C2 will get away with criticism of the Gators deficiencies. As noted above, @ltraz will not
- Foley will still be hampering our program for years, and Strickland will not be fixing it.
- I will selectively pick any of these prediction that prove correct and ignore the others as though they never happened
- We will have 2 more people join the super important, extra special, featured game breakdowns. Navet will be missed for not merging everyone's game breakdown's into C2's thread. Sas and Truth provide good breakdowns, but they could all be in the same thread.
- Sas and Boss will lead the board in bannings from a board that differentiates itself by not banning anyone.
- the Gators will lead the SEC, and be top 10 in the country, in penalties. Posters here will claim it's evidence that everyone hates us.
- I will lose my voice at least 8 times this fall.
- I will spend too much time on Gatorchatter and still wish there was more here to read.
- I will post after a game while drunk, see it the next day and laugh at myself.
- Gators roll in Tallahassee, which, no matter how bad they are will always feel great to a Spurrier-raised Gator that may never see enough of those beat downs of the fighting Willie's to make up for SOS's Tally record in my lifetime.
- there will be at least 10 new board members who make me laugh out loud or learn something new.
- I will sweat my a$$ off pre-game and through the third quarter and will love every minute of being around and in the Swamp. By the fourth quarter, it will be bearable.
- I'll just barely hold off tearing up for "Heeeere come the Gators" and I won't be able to hold off if it follows a flyover
- I'll enjoy the smell of the Swamp and the hatred for Tennessee even if we have beaten them 13 of the last 14
- Florida rolls against Miami due to the pressure we put on whoever is the QB.
- We have at least one pick six/fumble return against Miami, with Dean being my first guess.
- I will spend hours watching my kids play sports while a Gator game is on, taping it and trying to hide from the results, then watching the entire game with my boys and die-hard Gator wife afterwards and thinking that life is pretty damn good.

- Thanksgiving will roll around and I'll again be thankful Ox gave us all this outlet.

Go Gators!

HOF-worthy post!

One thing: we get the criminole$ at home this year. I could nitpick a few other things, but why bother? You made me laugh several times. Excellent work!

I noticed that too, but figured it was like when Bluto asked “was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?” He was on a roll....

Mea culpa. Even worse, I'll be at the game in Gainesville and screwed it up. I must be looking ahead to 2020.

Love the Animal House reference, and there probably was a bit of being on a roll impact.

Who knows what will happen? I think we'll have a better team than last year but could end up with a record not as good. Injuries at a couple of key positions could change this dramatically and we're counting on a lot of guys with little or no experience stepping up big time. We'll probably be underdogs against Georgia & LSU, favorites in the rest of our games. But Auburn, Missouri & South Carolina could go either way, Tennessee and Kentucky could beat us if we have a bad day. And while we should beat Miami it's the opening game. I'm excited for the season to get started. I'll guess we go 9-3 again, but wouldn't be surprised if there's a 2 game swing either way.

I am saying like Ocala...We are a much better team...Play Better.

I predict 10-2

After beating the U and FSU again...We become the Florida Power and Top Recruits will want to retun. UCF begs us for Home and Home and additional Neutral Site like Tampa or Jax Kick-off Classic.

I think this year will play out similarly to last year, with some highs followed by some lows, then some more highs. fsu will be absolutely demolished in the swamp. willie will be fired at seasons end and we will all mourn the loss, but laugh when they settle on another mediocre dud to take the reigns.
