I’m more nervous than normal.... haven’t heard a peep about some super recruiting month yet and we’re running out of time! Maybe @Slevin can do us all a favor and make up a “just wait until August” post that we can be excited about.

I'd agree with that. Not where we need to be but damn close. We need the 5*s to break our cherry.

TOS is reporting that DT Tim Smith commits to Alabama. He's going to be a monster (6'4 340lbs already). We still need one more heavy body (at least) in this class.

You can say it is July all you want but the recruiting schedule has changed. Almost all of these kids stick w their commitments, except the ones committed to scUM. The real signing day is December now, with very few leftovers. Obviously the coaches are busy in the fall.

You can declare "it's only June" but we will have probably 90 percent of our class soon.

On the other hand, there's a lot of risk with this compressed recruiting schedule. Kids are getting ranked and committed as juniors. You don't even get to see how they develop in their final year of high school before they're committed. If you try to wait and dont have the recruiting mojo, you get Buttered and stuck w HS backups stolen from D3.

There's a reason that Saban opposed this loudly and vehemently. He wanted to watch kid's senior season and start cherry picking in December and January.

Grantham has no use for guys like that. (anymore, that is all he played at Ugly, three of them.)

He now wants 250ish pound DTs who can flex back into man coverage on a TE or H for a few steps (and pray yhe blitz works).

A fullsize DT would be crazy to come to us and play nothing but goalline or STs.

I half-way agree w/ you (hoping that Grantham isn't that stupid). I expect Dexter and Goods to both be 300 pounders. Brown may not get to that weight, but would be very athletic at 280+ (a good SDE size). We still need one more heavy body....hopefully whoever it is is over 250!

Whether this is true or not I don’t think we’re any better than fourth on his list. He’s looking to play out of state and is likely judging how Bama, UGA and Clemson are rounding out their classes to then decide on one of those three.

DT Branard Wright is a kid on our board that we seem to be in on. Looks to be between us and arky right now

How strong are our chances with any of the better possibilities that are still out there - who would you prefer?

I just posted above that 4 star Branard Wright looks like the highest rated DT still on our board that we have a decent shot with.

He’s from Dallas. 6’2”, 300lbs. Looking at us and the razorbacks.

Rivals lists him at 6’4” 285 and rates him 107th in the 2020 class. 247 puts him at 303rd and top 50 overall in state of Texas.

Long Tooth just mentioned Wright - who would be a very good pick up out of Texas (I didn't realize he was on our radar). Goods teammate (Jeffery M'ba) would be another very nice get - at 6'6 315. Alabama commit Jayson Jones is a pipe dream, but you never know. And there's a few SDE's we're still looking at: Z Walker (projected to pick UGA though), Tim Brown (Pitt commit), and there's a few other commits that we could (possibly) flip. I'd keep an eye on ANY recruit at Auburn & South Carolina. I expect both to have ugly seasons (SC more likely than Auburn) and there's a few prime for the plucking!

Wright picked up a CB to LSU but they’ve already loaded up on DTs so I don’t see that unless someone decommits from the Tigers. Either situation helps us because a player who bailed on the tigers may very well come here. Wright has interest from all the big hitters but UF, Arky and LSU seem to lead at the moment. Is Gray recruiting all of Texas or just the DBs out there?

Wright has visited us twice. Once in January and again in May. Doesn’t look like he’s taken any other visits. He’ll likely go all the way to signing day.

Whatever happened to Jaquelin Roy? Alabama is full with the Tim Smith commitment and LSU is also full. Tim Smith is still coming to FNL, BTW.

We've gotten something like 10 commits in the last 2 months...not sure what big influx of super secret commits everyone is looking for. That's a big 2 months with 5 months until the ESD and we have something like 8-10 spots left for the entire class if there is no more decommits.

Yeah we do...but that's not what we're talking about here...it was about commits and people joking about our "secret" commits...well...we just had a bunch go public. We aren't really in it for any 5 stars so it's best to just come to grips we aren't getting any this year according to the ratings systems. But there are guys on our commit list that damn well should be 5*.

There are zero 5*s I'd trade for Wingo.

We also desperately need beef up front, but it doesn't really matter until we change DCs.
