The rest of what you wanted know is irrelevant given the fact that it doesn't matter either way.

I have a hard time believing that you can determine what's relevant or not, when you can't decipher between your ass and a hole in the ground. Just to help you out, your head isn't in a hole in the ground.

Coach Mac sending a loud, clear signal that this is "his" team. Collins coached some very good defenses at MSU, with a bunch of bums running around in the secondary. He's about to inherit some serious ballers in this secondary so it'll be fun to see what he can do.

Only drawback, we've got some serious installing to do on both sides of the ball now. If you get a dollar for every time you hear/read the word "installation" in the spring, you'll be rich.

Lawling has only been here one year I thought. Was stolen from SC based on helping develop clowney.

I think the hire overall is not bad. 10th in scoring defense is definitely something that I like to see. However, 80th in yards allowed per game? Ouch. That secondary last year was painful to watch most of the time. Hopefully he can have better success with that at a place like Florida.

I will reserve judgment until I see the product on the field. And I just look for the simple things. First things first. Can we teach our free safety the concept of "As deep as the deepest"? Can we teach our safetys route recognition and ball skills and forget about head hunting? Can we teach our LB's which hole they are suppossed to fill? After a team like LSU runs the ball on 40 consecutive plays will we continue to have 5-6 players only in the box like we did this year? All I care about is the most simple, basic defensive ABC's to know if he can coach.

Maybe he brings some Mississippi State commitments with him? We sure need them.

Scoring is what matters in football, right? Who gives a rip how many yards his defense gave up?

He signed a contract extension in january giving him 575k this year and would have been 625k next. Interested to see what he gets here. Was making 292k in '12, 325k in '13.

I'm not at all worried about this. Gus Malzahn showed with proper leadership it's entirely possible to turn a program around in one off season. It just takes the players buying in and attention to detail in the practices. I trust Mac already 1000% more than I ever trusted Muschamp to get the job done. I don't even know why. There's just something about him that feels positive.

I not sure this is a good hire. Mike Slive will not be pleased if it is true. He might even frown upon it. :fear:

#2 Safety in the ESPN 300 is a MSU commit but has a Florida offer. Would be a good steal...

Yeah, you're right. Good point. However, sometimes it bit him in the ass always giving up big plays like that. For example, the Ole Miss game? Seemed like they gave up big play after big play all night, and they lost.

Just what we need. Another DB on a team comprised of 40% DBs.

I'm fine either way on Lawing, so this shouldn't be taken as bashing him. But that move by WM was the classic "reactionary" approach that was all too common the past few years. To me, a guy like Clowney is going to dominate at this level, regardless of development. I can remember reports of his initial practices at Usce and he was unstoppable. Not completely dismissing coaching and its role, but it would be like taking credit for Elam or Harvin. Sometimes, guys are just ballers.

Quarles was good as well, but also benefited greatly from teams having to focus so much attention on Clowney.

Wouldn't hurt for depth Nav, at this point I'll take anyone we can get. This recruiting class is going to be down regardless. Why not take a guy who might help in a couple of years?

I'm with you. Giving up yardage is definitely not ideal. Hopefully he'll be able to tighten things up at Florida with better players
