Maybe he brings some Mississippi State commitments with him? We sure need them.

Sad that we need MSU commits, but I agree.

I think this is a good hire. He has a very solid resume, knows how to recruit the state of Florida, and knows how develop players. Next year will be his first year to have at least one first rounder in the secondary, so they'll be fine.

I'm not sold on T-Rob as a coach based on the Bama and Lsu games, but he is a great recruiter so I hope he stays for that reason. I think he will stay, but I'm not confident in that prediction.

Durkin is most likely gone, but I personally would like to see him stay as special teams coordinator. He did well in that role.

Wouldn't hurt for depth Nav, at this point I'll take anyone we can get. This recruiting class is going to be down regardless. Why not take a guy who might help in a couple of years?

Other than VH3, our starting AND backup DBs are all young. We can skip DBs for one year and be fine. We have much more pressing needs on the OLine and LB positions that we need to use scholarships for this year. I understand where you're coming from. Depth never hurts unless we're a scholarship short of pulling in someone for a position of greater need. Of course that may be a moot point since I doubt we're going to have a large enough class this year to use all our empty scholarship spots.

Just what we need. Another DB on a team comprised of 40% DBs.

I believe he runs a slightly unorthodox 3-1-7.

Go ahead and throw it. We dare ya.

We're getting a guy who is passionate, emotional and appears to have a great family, can't wait to see them in the emotion of the Swamp:

Lawling has only been here one year I thought. Was stolen from SC based on helping develop clowney.

2 years. He could be important to recruiting as a lot of them mention his name.

So how is everyone feeling about the hiring over Durkin. Happy for a new change or a wait and see approach

He did a fair job. We've had sub-par play from our DTs for a few years now. Ends have been stellar.

Some of the younger guys seemed to improve as the year went on. Ivie and Brantley. Bullard also did a better job on the inside this year when he was not playing end. Next year we should have all of those guys plus Khairi Clark and Holley. Willis, McAlister and Cox should be good on the ends.

WM had a big role in our defense so it's pretty difficult to accurately rate Durkin's abilities. I don't think it's much of a loss

I think Coach Mac had to go outside Muschamp because he has to make his footprint in this team. Can not have anyone saying well it was not his defense etc

@ZachAbolverdi: #UF might make a run at #Tide DL coach Bo Davis. Worked with Geoff Collins at #Bama in 2007 & Jim McElwain from 08-10 before going to Texas.

From a recruiting and stability standpoint, I didn't/don't want to lose both Durkin and Robinson. I'll agree with the others that DJD is hard to gauge because of the fact that WM was the architect of the defense. We also had some great moments, but also witnessed a few historically bad defensive performances in his tenure as well. Great guy in the few times I've met him, and would've been fine seeing him stay. But it could very well be a positive to clear out as much of the old regime as possible and get a true fresh start. Wish him the best.

@DanWolken: Geoff Collins to Florida, as reported by SI, is a smart hire. And probably just after Mullen threw D staff under the bus following Egg Bowl
