I don't love that Emmitt wore a UGA hat, but if that is what he did to support his son then good for him. Being a Dad comes before being a Gator.

As previously said... I recall seeing him on the field and support the Gators on multiple occasions. I just think he is letting his son make the choice that is best for him. Can't argue against that.

I don't find any of it bizarre. Emmitt lives in the moment, perhaps too much so. He was thinking of his Cowboys teammates more than himself when he made the now-infamous Canes comment. He was lending support to his son when he sinned by donning the Dwag cap for a photo op.

I think he reacts and worries about the consequences later. Actually, I don't think he gives much thought to the consequences, certainly not to the extent the UF message boards do.

Emmitt went out of his way to get his degree at UF, long after he was an NFL superstar. He's on the sideline at every important UF game. That speaks volumes to me.

We just disagree and I think its a little out there. I don't hate him or anything like that.

Some combination of Drennen, Scott or Lee wouldn't suck. On a side note - as I recall, Emmitt made a comment back in the day to the effect that one of the reasons he skipped his SR year was that SOS didn't try to re-recruit him after Hall was fired. I don't know if there was any actual disaffection there or not. But unfortunately, Emmitt's degree of interest in the modern program would seem to be minimal at best. In hindsight, Errict Rhett was probably the ace in the hole for Steve that made Emmitt's departure a little easier to deal with.
It would have been foolish for him to return for his senior year. I have no memory of where he was projected, but I don't recall anyone being surprised he was taken in the first round. Any RB who has solid reason to believe he'll be picked anywhere in the first three rounds should never go back to school. More so than any other position. If that's an accurate quote, it sounds a little childish.

Agreed.

I am amazed at the life this line about "SOS not wanting him back" has continued to have.

Emmitt left after his junior year because it made sense to leave because he was projected as a first rounder. If amything SOS has always encouraged guys to leave IF they are projected that high.
Any comments from Emmitt to the contrary are simply whining because maybe he expected SOS to beg him to stay and we all know that SOS don't play that.

My two cents;

I have always believed that Emmitt has a grudge or some kind of hard feelings with regards to his time at UF which he certainly is entitled to have. He skipped out on his ROH induction (Don't give me that crap about Dancing With The Stars, all it would have taken was a little effort to make the trip) and he has for the most part been nothing more than a rumor at UF for more than a decade and was only rarely around prior to that. I won't even get into the slight during his NFL HOF induction speech. That was no mistake or oversight.
However, we should not continue to kiss his a$$ if he resents UF or regrets his time here. He certainly didn't regret his decision to attend UF when it helped him to reach his lifelong goal.

He owes us nothing but we owe him nothing as well.

Now attack the crap out of me for daring to say such a thing even though many of you are thinking the same thing

Emmitt carried the team when he was here. His first time out he smoked Bamma. After we found a way to lose to [Aubrun] he cried his eyes out on National TV. Broke my heart.

He'll always be that Emmitt to me.1

It would be great to have his son here.

1 If he allows his son to go to the leghumpers, he's dead to me.

Here's my issue...you let UGA take pics of you in said UGA gear. And your son isn't even a student there yet. Sorry but even if you decide to wear it...only in private and do not let yourself be photographed. If his son was actually playing there? Yeah, I could understand it. Just to refresh your memories...

He definitely has been around games. Back in late 90's I went to home game against FSU with a friend. During pregame he headed down the steps and said follow me and act like you know what you are doing. We made it through the gate and onto the field and were within 5 yards of Emmitt when security tapped me on the back and asked for our badges. We were lucky he didn't kick us out of the stadium.

There's no doubt the picture is real. The dwags had that hat especially made to fit Carson Becks enormous forehead.

Would love to have Jr. become a Gator, we need a great running back this recruiting cycle and maybe it could heal some of what is wrong between UF and Emmitt.

I get your point... , but maybe he did it so that the coaches didn't think there would be any bias. To make sure they knew they had a shot with his son if his son wanted to go to UGA and Emmitt was going to support him in his decision.

UGA wants him, not the other way around. Emmitt has nothing to prove to them. I get your kids come first but I think he may have crossed a line with a lot of folks. Throw that in with his HOF speech and some other slights and you can see why someone might question his loyalties.

ATX, welcome back. Havent seen you much. You know I love you.... but Gators don't let their sons wear red and black.

Hell if Dan Mullen had Herschel Walker's son down here on the sidelines for recruiting, I'd be pissed if he put Gator stuff on Herschel Walker.

It's an unforgivable sin. About the same as me spending a night in a hotel in Athens. I'm surprised I wasn't interrogated the next time I drove to Gainesville.

Gainesville, FL, that is, not Gainesville, GA.

p.s. Law really knows how to play to the audience. And yet his alma mater is UCF. How do we ever reconcile this atrocity?
