We're sitting at #12 right now with only 10 of the Florida top 100 while FSU has 15 and Miami has 13. We have 1 top 100 recruit (barely) and are only leading with 1 other top 100 (EJ Smith #95). That just not good enough.

Dexter is far from barely being a top 100 player I don’t care about the rankings. But we aren’t even close to leading for Smith

Those of us who knew coaches, knew CDM wasn't much of a recruiter before he was hired and we said so at that time. What you do when you have a capable coach who can't recruit is:
1) Get him good facilities to show off ASAP;
2) See that he gets a full set of non-coaching assistants:
3) See that the budget for assistant coaches is sufficient to hire coaches who can both coach and recruit.
If these things aren't done, or are done poorly, then note it and complain with complete legitimacy.
What isn't legit is waiting two years and then mewling like a whiny, teen aged bytch that (surprise, surprise!) he can't recruit.
I just posted the current stats and pointed out they aren't good. Seems that might have hit a nerve.

Looking at the board I see six guys we could get unless they have grade issues or we whiff bad:

4 star WR Xzavier Henderson
4 star OT Isaiah Walker
4 star DT Branard Wright
3 star WR Kenton Poitier
3 star ATH Damarcus Beckwith
3 star RB Mecose Todd

We’re also chasing two OGs, DT Smith, WR Smith, a couple LB prospects, a couple 3 star safeties and some CBs and ATH types, and SDEs that will go elsewhere, but that looks about it. We ain’t getting Lee, Toafili or Smith at RB so cest la vie. Maybe a flip or two and a transfer but this looks to be all for now. 18 current in class. If this holds we get 24-26 with no five stars and a little over 50% 4 stars.

So you think Dumervil goes to LSU or OU? I don’t see it personally but why would you think we end up with zero true RBs?

THE STORYLINE
Alabama has consistently dipped into the state of Florida for some of its best prospects, and the Crimson Tide had success again in recent days when four-star defensive tackle

Timothy Smithpicked Alabama over Florida, Georgiaand others.

It was another massive pledge for the Crimson Tide because the Sebastian (Fla.) Sebastian River standout is ranked as the fifth-best defensive tackle in the class and he’s another Rivals100 prospect who is leaving the state.

But this recruitment might not be over, because days after committing to Alabama, Smith showed up at Florida’s Friday Night Lights camp and he also worked out in front of the coaches.

The four-star is a top target for coach Dan Mullen and his staff, and Smith was in Gainesville spending time with four-star DE commit

Gervon Dexter.

Is Smith locked up for Alabama? Or do the Gators have a legitimate chance at flipping him, especially after his recent visit back to campus?

FIRST TAKE: COREY BENDER, GATORSTERRITORY.COM
“Even though Smith committed to the Crimson Tide just days prior, the plan all along was to attend Friday Night Lights with Dexter. It was viewed as more of a wait-and-see deal, but not only did Smith show up in Gainesville he also camped and was the highest-ranked prospect to do so.

“The Gators are still under consideration here, despite Smith being verbally committed to another SEC school. He is arguably UF's top target along the defensive line, and Mullen and defensive line coach David Turner have been pushing the right buttons with Smith's family as well.

"UF has been selective along the defensive line in recent months, and much of that has to do with the staff prioritizing Smith. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't take an official visit to Gainesville before it's all said and done. There is no doubting Smith's pledge to Alabama, but multiple Florida coaches and commits are making a strong push and they certainly showed that with all of the attention Smith received last Friday. Smith remains the Gators' top target along the defensive line, and that hasn't changed. Mutual interest is fairly high as well.”

SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH FLORIDA FANS AT GATORSTERRITORY.COM

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM
“I don’t think it’s over. Alabama has a great tradition of producing defensive linemen and putting defensive linemen and defensive tackles in the NFL. The Tide are going to compete for national championships. But I think he’s going to look around and he’s going to take visits.

“Florida would definitely be one of those teams that has a chance. There were early rumors that Clemson was going to be the school for him. I’m not sure it's as heavily involved. In the end, he’ll probably stick with Alabama because Alabama doesn’t really lose that many kids when they’re committed. But Florida could make this very, very interesting.”

Four-star Issiah Walker talks finalists, commitment date

Issiah Walker (Nick Lucero/Rivals.com)
Rob Cassidy • Rivals.com

THE LATEST: A former South Carolina commit, Florida-based tackle

Issiah Walker has long since narrowed his search to include only the in-state programs. On Saturday, the four-star prospect discussed his views on Florida, Florida State and Miami. He also detailed his timetable for a verbal commitment.

IN HIS WORDS

ON MIAMI:

“They always wanted me to be a Cane. I visited last week again. I spent some time with Coach [Butch] Barry.”

ON BUTCH BARRY:

"He helps set Miami apart for me. I really love his coaching and he’s been doing it for a long time. He really knows what it takes, man. He knows what it takes. He did it in the NFL for seven years, so he knows how to get me there."

ON FLORIDA STATE:

“I was up there last week, too. They want me to come there and anchor their line playing tackle. I’m close with Coach [Telly] Lockette."

ON TELLY LOCKETTE:

"He’s a good coach. Plus, he’s a Miami dude so we clicked right away. The first time I was really around him, we hit off. We bonded really well."

ON FLORIDA:

“I’m close with a lot of the coaches there. I’m close with Dan Mullen and Coach [Brian] Johnson. Also, some others. They all are cool at Florida. I like the whole culture at the school”

ON DAN MULLEN:

“He’s a cool coach. He’s a funny guy. He’s gonna make you laugh no matter what -- no matter what. He’s a laid back guy.”

ON BACKING OFF HIS COMMITMENT TO SOUTH CAROLINA:

“They were cool. They still text me, like, every day. We talk. It was just the fans, man. The fans were really mad. Like, they were real, real mad.”

ON A COMMITMENT TIMETABLE:

“I think it’ll be over in the middle of the season. I probably won’t wait. I’m graduating in December and I’ll be committed before that … I think”

I listed Todd, the 3 star. He’s not listed as an APB, but as a RB.

I will believe we can pull cats like Dumervil and Smith when I see it.

Well that would stink.

Yeah it would. But right now we are no better than tied for first in terms of predictions from 247 for all our priority prospects and are trailing for most behind the big guns. Could be anti gator bias at play but we’ll see. And we don’t know how many guys we’re scouting have grade issues to boot. Keyvone Kee has visited FSU five times. Says it’s like home. Maybe we get Toafili as a result if he goes there (barf) but it sadly looks like quality leftovers from here on out barring some real surprises.

Possibility, somebody (negative recruiting?) may have told Lee "Look, you are going to play in the NFL, be money-set for life. ? Why go UF where you'll have to study, have to sweat grades? FSU is the place for you. Look at this printout: you can see your good grades already.

Lee looks like a champion's team ingredient. What a CFB waste at FSU.

I like Lee. He is the kind of athlete that Mullinz can use, that hback, hynrid tight end, hybrid running back, probably better than anyone else.

But the world isn't ending if he doesn't come here. He's not that kind of talent.

I also really like Walker but the fact that he isnt being recruited by Hev and doesnt mention Hev says a lot.

Smith... forgettaboutit. Those guys dont come here to play for Grantham.

If this holds we get 24-26 with no five stars and a little over 50% 4 stars.
Likely.

I wonder if we will be allowed to make judgments on the staff's recruiting at that point. Ive heard the first two classes dont count. Perhaps this one wont either.

You can start to make evaluations of this staff whenever you want. Of course part of that evaluation depends on how guys like Weston work out. Mullen has let it be known he thinks Weston is much better than his ranking. If Mullen turns out to be correct on guys like this most of the time, then you have to work that into your evaluation of him as a recruiter.

Really that is some of a point Ancient Reptile makes to you all the time. There is bidirectional causality in recruiting. If Mullen has success at UF, then in the future guys like Weston that he takes an early commitment from with often edge on up into the 4 star range. Now that does not happen as much.

.
So what is correct? That he blocks well and averages 2 catches a game and 400 yards a year like the average Mullinz starting WR?

Someone will have to start at some point, between the Marks and Johnsons of the world. Im sure they will two catch their two screen passes a game.

Remember all those great diamond in the rough 3* receivers Mullinz developed at Cowbell? Me neither.

Such blathering angst....I will agree we need to get our cost of attendance pay in line with the other Florida schools and Tinercee.

Just win baby....if we kick some ass this year like most of us think we should, players will be beating down the door to play for Mullen. It needs to be a good fit though. Dope abusers and grade problems are just not a good fit at UF regardless of talent.

Give me 50-50 4 stars and 3 stars that will study and work hard and I think Mullen can take us as far as anyone else. An occasional Percy type would be ok too.

Give me 50-50 4 stars and 3 stars .
You ll get that, or slightly less.

6th in the SEC or so. Then we can say he cant beat the elite teams til gets more talent or [insert excuse].

My 2 biggest concerns are COA pay and attitudes towards weed. Weed is so common among kids these days and legal in so many states it is hard to have a no weed policy with these players like so many schools don’t....it’s almost like a don’t ask don’t tell issue most places.

The NCAA tests for weed and bans you.

Its still a crime inntje United States of America and most of our recruits are American. I dont know what you plan on doing.
