Curious if anybody else has read what Huggins did to a tutor. Two incidents. Very, very bizarre behavior. Maybe we should just let this guy go before he really assaults someone.

Any way our best pumpers and occasional woman haters want to spin this, there is a lot that is not a good look for UF. Here is the full article - Huggins' status remains unclear as previous incidents surface

Lowlights include Huggins allegedly pulling his female tutor's hair, choking her (separate incident from hair pulling), routinely skipping out on tutoring after 5-15 minutes, and being caught smoking and possessing weed (in the dorm, dumba$$es) with Pitts and Clement.

The article discusses the 5 acts of violence against women alleged against UF players (and staff with Yelverton) in the last year.

Perhaps the worst look of the day though, after being asked about Huggins, and knowing this history, Mullen used Jeffrey Simmons from MSU as his example of what he wants to see on his team in terms of being an "Alpha Dog".

Yep, this 300 lb Jeffrey Simmons, seen pummeling a women while she was laying on the ground -

The actual season can't get here soon enough.

You get what you recruit. My tolerance for “antics” against women is zero.

Keep in mind that two of these cases have been from kids(Huggins, Watkins) in his transition class. I don't care who you are, you don't turn down a 4* player at a position of need in that situation. And coming from a different type school, and the fact that they were both Florida kids, I'd be curious to know if they were even on his radar while at MSU. So again, no luxury of vetting someone and getting a perfect picture of character.

Edwards was a McElwain recruit. And I love how they're including Yelverton, an assistant director of player personnel in the "5 Gators accused" story.

The only real player you could lay at Mullen's feet for making a bad character call is Jones. And he was dismissed.

I don't blame Mullen one bit for kicking these guys out of our practice.

I actually believe he is most responsible for Yelverton.

He acted quickly and appropriately with Jones and the others, though it seems some staff fvkked up. They are gone now though.

No one knows enough about Huggins. I get the sense it isnt that bad.

the truth is those guys don't actually provide any useful insight. What the hell are Dooley and Andreu going to tell us? the other network sit around talking about how the 4th string quarterback or wide receiver looks great against the walk ons.

Literally no value-added.

He's still going to have conferences though. not really sure what this accomplishes. I guess he doesn't have to answer questions about who's in practice and who's not.

Chemical castration for about 100% of the people in that video.

I think you are right on a number of points (though Yelverton and Watkins' background could more easily fall on Mullen), but only Gator fans will parse this that much. With these incidents over the last year, for Mullen to invoke Simmons as an example of what Mullen wants by way of an "Alpha Dog", and then making some stance about how anti-violence against women he is, doesn't look good for UF.

BTW - who isn't anti-violence against women? I'd bet even those a-holes who have hit women would tell you that deep down they are against domestic violence. Stating you are is so meaningless. I'm also against papercuts, cancer and high ankle sprains. I deplore them all.

I think it was just the context. He was essentially defending his record, and trying to explain the Huggins decision. I get what you're saying, but it's pretty standard to state a point with conviction, and then explain your actions around that.

Personally, I have no issue with his comments, but I agree that the whole thing doesn't look good. And as I've stated repeatedly, this is a cultural problem with some core beginnings, which society chooses to not address. It's not specific to UF, nor is it going to get any better.

These days, everyone is too quick to pass judgement and do very little work to actual get information. He has a direct relationship with these kids. If they say they did or didnt do something then you have to believe he is going to give them the benefitof the doubt while getting to the bottom of it. He literally stated those very words yet everyone is hung up on him saying he is against violence against women. Of course he is ... but he is also a lot closer to the situation and has developed meaningful relationships with his players and their parents. To throw them to the side as guilty until the facts are known is not the kind of coach I want ... and furthermore, will never have success as a recruiter. Players want to know he is on their side and their parents want to know the same. Because you dont have all the facts and there are rumors out there that this or that happened doesn't make throwing someone off the team a reasonable response. I dont know what Huggins did ... but the issue seems pretty dead to me except for a bunch of message board jockeys bringing it back up.

I think you have that backwards.

I dont have it backwards ... I have it wrong ... as a running joke on this board. That turd from Cali didn't stop any rapes ... he walked in, laughed and then left. Then smeared UF with negative PR so he could get out of his commitment and go home to mommy. And this really kinda validates my point above about people not taking time to get all the facts before passing judgement.
