Zook was ineffective at every position he touched. He was garbage DC, and his DBs were always the weakest part of the team.

His two strengths were:
1. Being dumb, and
2. From Ohio

Which apparently make you irresistibly attractive to Fooley. They were two peas in a pod.

To this day Fooley thinks Zook won 3 championships for us.

I'm also really not sure how good of a recruiter is because he pretty much relied on promising dudes they were going to start no matter what.

As an analyst I don't know what worth he would be. He knows nothing about defense other than playing soft zone.

As a recruiting staffer, he hasn't been on the road for over 20 years and no doubt his old contacts are retired.

He just wouldn't be the answer to anything that ails us.

There's a guy on almost every staff that's a Florida guy, often their best recruiter, like Seider was. Those are the guys we should be hunting and any of their support staff equivalents.

I don’t get why people still buy the he’s a good special teams guy. Defense and special teams were his “strengths” but he got demoted at DC under SOS, his defense and ST were garbage when he was the head coach, and his ST were garbage in Green Bay

Sure, I remember those but for me, regardless of all of his shortcomings & Frat Row brawling (and gangster sign flashing, mop bucket memories), I will always form a grin when I hear of the ol’ Zooker for one single accomplishment...forever staining the commemoration of BB field in Tallahassee by kicking the sh!t out of fsucks.

that was his second greatest accomplishment.

his best accomplishment, as far a Gators are concerned, was getting fired again.

Trey Dean at FS, Moon at the star. I wonder how often Grantham will run this package.

From Clemson's camp:

They currently have 82 players on scholarship, of which 5 are former walk-ons. So they will award 3 more to walk-ons before the end of camp.

Anyone know where we sit on numbers? I know we're under 80 recruited scholarship players, I'm guessing it's probably closer to 75 than 80 though.

I am showing UF with 78 scholarship players.

His greatest accomplishment is $20 million+ in career earnings. How can a bafoon like him make that kind of money?
Room temperature IQ.

It really isnt that uncommon. Coaching wasnt huge bucks just a few years ago.

Saving money baby.

Remember the interviews of players leaving saying ADs office was only giving one semester scholarships to many of these walkons and pocketing the rest.

So embarassing.

Yes, but Zook earned that money over a long, long career as a coach. I could understand if he back-doored into it (like an athlete that signs a huge contract and ends up being a bust) - but he's done this over a long, long career (30+ years). He should have washed out of college coaching in the late 80's and been a HS head coach somewhere w/ AD duties for an extra $3,000/year. Instead the guy has made over $20 million being - mediocre at best.

How many of those 78 are walk-ons?

None or they would not be on scholarship. As for former walkons, maybe Townsend but I don't remember and I doubt you would be concerned about that. So I think UF has 78 recruited players on the roster.

To be so "terrible", he sure fails up a lot.
NFL assistant to film room is falling up?

HC at UF to HC at Ill?

Ill to NFL position coach?

his whole trajectory has been downward since 1993 with the exception of that stray time that Foley showed up in an airplane in NO.
