Yeah, the mid-engine look and feel is alluring. You look back differently at front-engined sports cars. They look out of balance, front-heavy.

Looks like the Blue Oval Boys weren't caught off guard as much as it looked....sandbagging the specs and true HP of the GT500.

News Bites
Achieving 0-100-0 in 10.6 seconds, the Shelby GT500 sends drivers on a visceral driving experience typically reserved for exotic supercars thanks to its 760-horsepower engine, ultra-quick Tremec 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and the largest front brakes of any domestic sports coupe

Its first-in-class 7-speed dual-clutch transmission delivers more consistent power and torque compared to manual transmissions, while its computer-controlled mechanism can upshift as quick as80 milliseconds–faster than a blink of an eye –making it the most capable Mustang powertrain ever

To put that in perspective here's a list of mid engine supercars and their 0-100-0 times.

0-100-0-jpg.384870

10.6 0-100-0 and holding 1.5 G's in the corners Ford test driver Billy Johnson just recently stated that he matched lap times of the Ford GT supercar(400K mid engine) in the 2020 GT500....That's quite a feat in a 4100# front engine rear wheel drive car if you ask me.

Great time to be a car lover.

Worked on many a Vette in my days but only one that "made it twitch", That being the 63 split window. But the C8 is getting close.

That split window is is/was gorgeous. One of my favorites.
Who would have ever thought Murica would be bringing us cars that right out of the box run 10-11 second 1/4 mile times AND handle with the best of what Europe has to offer. Like I said it's a great time to be a car guy.

F2CD068E-2DF5-41F3-BE94-77B61FC0D470.jpeg I see this one locally... they’re worth quite a bit if they still have original split window because over time, almost everyone cut out the split and put in single piece glass. I took this pic in 2017 heading to see son #1 in Gainesville

Not really if you look at the details. But there's only so much you can do with a mid engined V8. Short nose, cockpit and then long rear. I'm a mod on the Ferrari forum, a few guys there have placed orders.

IMO for the $70k price it offers supercar performance at a fraction of the new cost of a Ferrari. I'm really tempted.

Do-it.....do-it....do-it, not that I want you to feel like a guinea pig or anything . Seriously though I doubt anyone is going to be disappointed with this car. Can't wait to see one up close.

But there's only so much you can do with a mid engined V8.
I read a lot of stories on this car when it was still a "rumor", and it's ironic you frame it this way, because that is exactly why some were saying they were interested in a mid engine design, because there was only so much they could do at this point with the front engine.
They suspected that they were quickly reaching the limits, from a performance aspect with the front engine.

Yeah, I get the front vs. mid debate in terms of performance. It was time the Vette stepped up to a ME design.

Body-wise, there is only so much you can do with the ME design. It doesn't look anything like any current Ferraris though. It's angular, and the Ferrari designs are soft and curvy. It looks like a current Acura NSX to me.

If you haven't seen the wheel selection, you should check them out on the configurator. No chrome and they're all pretty nice.

My only complaint is the pictures of the interior look typically Chevy. They tried too hard to make it special and they failed, it looks like something a high schooler would have drawn. I'll hold off on final judgement there until I sit in one.

Good points all. I can tell from your comments that you've spent considerable time around cars. The chrome comment is spot on. Corvette wheels have sucked for the longest time over the Cragar look. If I wanted a '68 GTO, I'd have shopped for one. Don't put that chrome crap on my late model sports car.

I'll add that the C8 rear end is a disappointment. It's as if GM tried slapping on the tail lights from a 2013 Camaro. Doesn't work on a car trying to reach into the super car market.

This probably helps, though.

Bose put its most powerful sports car system ever in the 2020 Corvette

Mod on the Ferrari forum? Does this mean you own a Ferrari? If so, pics or you are banned.

This and they should have left the quad tipped exhaust exiting from the middle instead of moving it to the sides.

I sold my last one a couple years ago. It was a rare multiple Cavallino winner 328 GTB. Here's a pic from the Miami Beach Concours where it took best 80's Ferrari.

Yes I've had way too many cars over the years. The past couple have been the only time I've not had a hobby car.

The Bose system pretty sure they said the same thing about the C7 its one of those news releases that seems to come out every time they make a new model.

I was in Bowling Green the day the sinkhole opened up in the museum. I had to go to Mammoth Cave instead. If I get a Vette I'm definitely getting museum delivery. I'll wait a year until all the pricing games are finished One thing about Vettes they make so many they don't get away with "dealer premiums" for long.
