So get over it. He's one of the greatest Gators of all time. Had he had even a decent QB, and played his senior season under SOS, he'd had piled up a yardage marker that could never be touched. Remember, in all kinds of weather... we ALL stick together.

Guys,

Don't forget that during the 2006 NC game in Glendale, Emmitt went toe-to-toe with Eddie George... and was seen waiving a giant UF flag on the sidelines as we kicked their tail. He's a Gator... it just took a few years for the hard feelings to subside.
Well, you will understand then that it will likely take years for him acting like a Gator instead of claiming he wished he went to Trailerbammer, stating he is an honorary coCane and wearing UGaly gear for us to forget about it.

Remind me again what other Gator has done anything like this?

He never had any playmakers around him, and essentially, was the entire offense. And he still piled up yards and touchdowns at an incredible rate, despite the fact that every defense he played against stacked the line to stop him. He gave everything he had and left it all on the field. My dad took me to just about every game when I was a kid. I can recall to this day, watching Emmitt in amazement, as he he seemingly couldn't be tackled. It was equally as astonishing and electric as watching Tebow play.

The racist threats. The feelings of disrespect by SOS, for not trying harder to get him to stay for his senior season. It all took a toll. And when he left... he left disgruntled. IMO, it took him years to get past that stuff. But, past it he is. And, I have no doubt about his love for UF or his loyalty.

The UGA hat is nothing. It's to support his son. I'd do it, too. The love for your university can't come within a hundred miles of the love of your child. I'd wear an FSU jersey and a UGA hat with Tenn shoes... if it made my kid feel good. That's what being a parent is all about. And failing to mention UF in his HOF speech is a non-issue, as well. I'd be willing to bet that less than half of the inductees mention their college.

So get over it. He's one of the greatest Gators of all time. Had he had even a decent QB, and played his senior season under SOS, he'd had piled up a yardage marker that could never be touched. Remember, in all kinds of weather... we ALL stick together.

Nice levelheaded post, and I'll give you the first paragraph. In that 2006 setting, he was definitely pro-UF. And yes, he’s one of the greatest Gators ever. The problem with much of the other stuff is that there just always seems to be some excuse for his actions. When everything he does has to come with a “you have to understand” warning label, it becomes a noticeable pattern.

And to the part about the uga hat, yes, I’m a father and my children will always come first. So I get his supporting whatever choice his son makes. But what I think is being missed here is that it’s basically a recruiting trip. His son is the asset. It’s not as if Smart is forcing anyone to comply with a social media pic. He’s the one trying to sell Smith and his family, not the other way around. Emmitt could’ve easily supported his son on his decision(and obviously did, as he was there with him) without the public spectacle. Like it or not, that picture, with the hat, was totally unnecessary and yet another shot at UF.

I went through 4 or 5 random running backs HOF speeches and ALL mentioned not only their high school coaches but mentioned their college and college coaches extensively. They all went almost in chronological order. Emmitt jumps from high school to the cowboys leaving this huge noticeable void about his college experiences. If you think that was an accident...You're naive beyond all help my friend.

I find your post to be a bunch of excuses, nothing more. And the only reason you would don FSU, UGA or Tenn gear would be to make your kid laugh at you because you are dressing up as a clown.

Tpa has more likes now than he has posts.............Excellent first post to a newbie. You are officially an old school :pumper:.......haters will be here soon. You attracted one right off..........

Ok I read Rexie and a few more so here we go. I have watched gator football before most of you were a zygote. For most of gator history our joy came from great plays, great players and beating rivals. Hardware was NOWHERE to be found. We were teased in 84 with it for a shot time but sorry POS's in asbackward southern towns took it back. fckk them again. So after Charlie was crucified and our program was almost destroyed by the ncaa along comes Emmitt. Thank God he chose us over Aub or Bama. He could have gone anywhere and UF (at that time) was not contending. His freshman year he destroyed bama at bama. He was the first FR to reach a thousand yards in the fewest games and that was without playing the first much at all. He was absolutely electric. He could turn nothing into something. I saw every home game he played in. He gave me hope again and I was on the edge of my seat almost each time he got the ball. And fellas, they KNEW he was getting it cause we SCKKD in the passing game. But if you want to disown the greatest RB we ever had, one of the top 3 RBs in SEC history and the greatest statistical RB in NFL history for putting on a dwag hat for a photo op for his son than have at it with your twisted BVDs. The mothfcka was a gator all the way. He even came BACK TO UF to earn his degree. He was on the field when SOS was taking charge of the SEC the year we won the title. I Saw him at the goal posts and he was gator all day. and still is. I could give a phkkk what he said at the HOF speech. What he DID in orange and blue trumps any dipshttt hat or something he didnt say all day fckknn long.........now
ask me what I really think about an amazing gator who was too slow and just a lugger........

I think he disowned us before we did him. Honestly, GatorNation was 100% behind him until he started doing little dumb crap here and there. That HOF speech gaffe wasn't an accident. The only way I would even entertain him excluding any mention of Gville and the Gators is that he did that speech unrehearsed on the fly. Your post talks about all these great Gator things yet he couldn't be bothered to mention a single one. Right? Forget us...how about his college exploits? A lot of guys talk about their college experiences and ACCOLADES...you mean to tell me he's that humble? Or wait...he forgot? Which is it again...

I love you Rex. You are one of my favorite posters. I can handle gator fans hating on Emmitt or Urban, ADs or even players that never panned out. Im just giving facts. Emmitt walked the walk. Maybe he was put out about the program. I heard SOS was not friendly with him but i think that is bs. Emmitt left exactly when he needed to. As for his college career vs NFL. No comparison, He was MVP of super bowls. All Pro. Won two super bowls. Owns one of the mythical records in all sport with his yardage total and I believe is WAY up in total TDs. In college he never won any thing comparable. HE earned the HOF. It was his prerogative to talk about anything. He was here when we had nothing and it was amazing. One of the greatest gators of all time in any sport. Its like hating Urban and have even heard people diss SOS. They all brought much glory and hardware to UF.

I'm pretty sure we want to love a gator great...it's just not unconditionally. I agree it is his prerogative but not without consequence. Not everyone can overlook the slights no matter how small/big.

Love u too buddy.

I heard he took a sh!t in it soon after and then pitched it in a pile of burning leaves.......
I don't see anyone here disrespecting him or questioning his greatness while he was wearing the Orange and Blue. I think we all agree that he was a great Gator while he was at UF.
And I'm sure that you're not the only one that watched him play as a Gator and was a huge fan.
It's how he treated UF after he left that is the issue here.
I understand and respect your views and your stance on the issue.
However, putting on the Ugly hat and posing with Kirby was sort of "the straw that broke the camel's back."
And there was really no reason for it; Kirby was recruiting Emmitt's son--he didn't need Emmiitt to recruit for Ugly. And whether it's true or not, that is the perception that many of us took from that pic.
