Kyle Pitts. If we can dominate from the TE position and own the middle of the field with an athletic freak it’s going to open everything up for the WRs. Similar to he that shall go unnamed.

Totally agree with this take. Kyle Pitts was the first guy I thought of when I saw the title of this thread. The TE I so important to this Offense. I love that shovel pass the run up the middle to the TE. MT you're right the TE making plays opens up a lot more stuff. It's exciting to think about his potential. If he shows up and makes plays, we have a future star here. He could be an unstoppable force for us in the passing game after the four seniors ( Jefferson, Cleveland, Swain & Hammond) and two juniors (Grimes,Toney) move on. Let's get a poll going Rog or someone else with that ability.

Zach Carter
Copeland
Shawn Davis, Taylor, and Stewart.

A lot of other names have done enough for me to be expecting big things so I'm not sure if I would call a big year breakout for them...but that's just me.

Copeland developing is in the "nice to have" category IMO since it's not critical that he takes off this year, given we have plenty of firepower at WR...to go along with plenty of firepower at RB.

So I'm going defense and I'm going with Burney (honorable mention to Houston). We lose a LOT at LB after this season and having Burney (who's projected to be a starter) develop into a leader and vital contributor will not only make our defense better, it'll also go a long way to making sure our defense doesn't step back next season too.

...and Davis. I want to see him succeed. I think he has a really high ceiling and, perhaps because he was one of the few bright spots in the last regime only to be injured immediately after the new hope of improvement arrived, I have a desire to see him thrive. I like P & P too, but I think Davis is more explosive and if he has a breakout year, I believe it would be a really good sign for the running game.

Pitts and Burney.

And I can't believe this thread has been going for over a day and donkey hasn't said Townsend, your slipping man.

I too am hoping Davis makes a return from injury and shows the explosiveness he displayed in 2017; but Perrine and Pierce are more than capable--to go along with the running that Franks and Jones will do AND the inevitable jet sweeps to Toney. Rooting for him on a personal level, but it's another "nice to have" IMO as opposed to "we need this guy to take a major stride this year to improve the present and future."

I don't disagree that getting improved safety play will greatly help the defense (and could make this an "elite" defense); but the reason I didn't go with Davis initially is that we have elite corners already (limited depth, but the starters are excellent) and we should have another very good pass rush this year. Ie: we'll be tough to pass on as-is.

Having our starting LBers outside of Reese go from "decent" to "good" or "very good" will enable tons of freedom for a DC and enables us to take more risks with blitzing and also makes us less reliant on needing good safety play. Added to that: many of the big plays last year were blown LB assignments on 3rd downs rather than blown safety assignments.

I would like to see play calling from both sides continue to improve. If they can continue to build on the success we had in the Peach Bowl this could be a great year for the Gators.

this is true. Joseph was wrong more than he was right.

I wonder if he had a learning disability or something.

"Decent" gracious of you.

And even when he completed his assignment, he missed many big tackles. For example, he whiffed on Deondre Francis on a huge fourth down play in the game this year. The possession ended with an FSU TD.
