Haven’t gone through and looked at the seasons film but it’s not difficult to see improvement. Stats (traditional and advanced) showed it clearly. But hey, you’re not biased or negative. Just a “realist” ;)

I’ve not defended Frank’s or this offense, but there really was a different running style from Franks during those games. It’s like he finally realized he’s bigger than most players once he gets past the lineman and started to use it. Did the defenses play a role in that being more effective; probably. But he had a mental switch/confidence boost upon realizing that he’s not a target, he’s the weapon.

The offense sure seemed to run better as a result.

Knew you’d ask so I’ve been searching. I followed S&P and FEI last year and saw our improvement after the Mizzou game but I’m having trouble finding the rankings as they progressed during the season. There’s others on that site but they all adjust for opponent. Really interesting if you like that kind of stuff.

Good point about becoming a weapon instead of a target. Well said.

I didn't think that the change in Franks' running was debatable. Didn't he used to cringe before he was hit? I remember him almost stopping and waiting to be hit. If I am wrong, we should see it this year. I believe that his rushing will be much improved this year.

I think it goes beyond this. I do not claim to be @ltraz , @cover2 , or @GatorTruth133, but I do tend to believe my own eyes: instead of trying to fake out or jump over defenders (UT & UK) later in the season , FF started to run through defenders. It was if he suddenly remembered he was 6’6” 240+.

Thought that I implied that. When he stopped cringing, he started trucking. Guess we agree.

This is some monumentally ignorant bullsh*t right here. Speaking from experience, new plays are installed every week of the season specifically for the defensive scheme you’re facing that particular week. Whether it’s to pick on a weak defender or take advantage of certain fronts, nothing is static about an offense for 12 weeks unless you’re a triple option attack.

And off the top of my head, the tunnel screen to Perine in the Peach Bowl that we ran twice, once for a third down conversion and once for a touchdown, was definitely a new play. They also started running Franks north and south more instead of trying stretch plays since he really isn’t that fast. I don’t have anywhere near the time or patience to chart the entire season to figure the rest out, but it’s downright moronic to suggest nothing changed.

I like to track those two as the season progresses. Our ranking in both climbed after each game towards the end of the season. I took that to mean we were outperforming expectations each week relative to the competition. I was trying to find the weekly outputs to show that but I’m having trouble.

what do you think changed about Frank's running? I dont see how his fumble vs uga correlates to the 2 players Michigan played without.

What's your point?

I watched Franks in the O&B Game in 2018 and in 2019...Night and Day difference.

Do I think we’ll have a 4th statue outside BHG any time soon…NO

But this is year 2 under Mullen. Generally, in year 2 what happens…to every coach?...WHY?

And in year 3 and 4 what happens if you are Chump or Butters? Why?

Time in the system plays a HUGE part.

IMHO, Franks, at first, had no idea how he could be a somewhat effective runner. The last few games Franks' mental attack seem to change first. 1) less hesitant to get to speed, 2) directed himself more straight ahead 3) no giraffe 4) IMO he added speed via better mechanics >
>> Now with trial & error in practices he'll learn to veer his body to lessen the jolt and to slip forward for YAC.?? Nourishing confidence from success from broader spread of skills, he should grow as our leader. We can hope this is the probability.

Pre-game excitement.>>
1) Toney gets used more & he breaks lots of longish gains. Thereafter, he puts the UM D on nervous edge.
2) Perrine & Pierce blast-bang over & thru UM tacklers. Adding to UM's nervousness = mistakes.
3) Malik slips tackles for gains
4) Franks runs for chunks and passes improve over last year.
5) Our TEs block well, make sure handed catches: off we go Gators.
6) Then Gator WRs can go on a tear.

See, we've got loads of Offensive firepower.
If our defense shuts 'em down and dominates will GC be shocked? Hope for sacks, fumbles and INTs.
Give the sports pundips something to "I told you so" about.
While I'm at it : very few penalties. :D
