Can Franks hold on to the Number 1 QB spot?

My last thread was "Can Franks win the Heisman?" Now I wonder if he can keep his starting job. I know its only been one game and he did just enough to help Fl. get a "W" against Miami, but the game should have never beed close and much of that was on the QB play.

Mullen is stubborn as ****. It'll take an injury to bench Franks. Or several games in a row of losses and no scoring. He values seniority too much in my opinion.

He held on to the job through worse play last year. I assume if he sucks enough this year Trask and Jones will injure each other racing on their mopeds for the same parking spot.

The fact we didn't see Jones on the field whatsoever last night speaks volumes.

Franks hit his ceiling last year, and defensive coordinators have a year of film on him. Not a good combination.

Really hard question to answer until Mullen gives Emory some snaps. I expected to see him in a few packages last night.
I think the miscues made them panic and they basically gave up on the game plan. I think they knew we had the horses to blow them out of the water and when it went south it started to snowball and putting ej into a game where 1 more real bad play could have sunk us was not an option

He only Driskeled once... unfortunately, it was in the 4Q. The first fumble is shared with Perrine - they need to work on their read option hand off. The second one was on Davis, if memory serves. He let his eyes go upfield before he secured the ball on a toss. Not sure who he was throwing to on the 1st INT - was a really high throw to the underneath WR or did that same WR jump up and tip a pass meant for Cleveland streaking downfield? Point being, it wasn’t a pretty game for him and if this becomes the trend, he’s gone eventually. That said, I’m more likely to believe it was a bad game and better ones will follow.

I disagree with this just to a point. Emory probably could have gotten some snaps. But, perception to at least the fan base would have sparked unnecessary controversy and the media attention of it all would have certainly caused some locker room tension. I mean it’s game 1. Ugly W for sure. I think the plan was to play Franks the entire game. We’ll get to see a lot of Emory in 2 weeks. Coaches and us fans will get to see his performance without allowing much media scrutiny or locker room tension unless he greatly outperforms FF and because we all expect him to play. Idk if this makes sense. Just my thoughts on it.

I think Franks holds the spot this year. They’re obviously in no rush to put EJ out there. If nothing else, he’ll go into 2020 with what should be a better overall OL to help him.

We just have to hope Franks plays well enough to get drafted. Best of both worlds - we have a good season and the cap placed on the program by Franks gets removed.

If he plays well enough to get drafted, then he had a great season, as did the team. And if he played that well, why would we want him gone?

He’s got the measureables to get drafted right now. His decision making and maturity are what’ll hold him back. “Good” is the best he’ll ever be. If he can be good consistently, maybe we repeat last year. We need him gone so Jones, an unknown with a potentially higher ceiling, can take over.

You clearly do not follow QBs that the NFL is willing to draft. Last year Franks who as you know is 6'6" and about 240 lbs put up the following numbers:

322 Att, 188 Comp, 2457 Yds, 24 TDs, 6 Int, 143.4 Rating

For comparison last year the NFL champs took this 6'3" 215 lbs 4th year JR QB in the 4th round:

369 Att, 224 Comp, 2794 Yds, 18 TDs, 5 Int, 137.7 Rating

So if Franks can put up similar or slightly better numbers he could well go in the middle of the NFL draft. The big fly in the ointment to me is those silly sideline antics last night may hurt him with NFL teams.

the real question is how long does Mullins keep the #1.

I think he gets year four unfortunately no matter how bad year 2 and 3.... you know because Muschamp and McElstain were bad too.

Toney was greatly underutilized this game
Rinse and repeat, he’s underutilized in every game ffs.

He’s the most electric guy on the field whenever he’s on it.

Listen, I love Perine, Davis, Pierce, Grimes, Jefferson, Pitts, Hammond, Cleve, et al, but no one has the ability to change the game with one juke like Toney does.

The perplexing thing was that Jacob Copeland didn’t sniff the field. Did he? I sure don’t remember seeing him.
