Thanks for the congrats. Hard fight on both sides by two teams that forgot how to play good football. Neither deserved to win, glad we squeeked it out after trying so hard to give the game away.

You are absolutely correct. The Gators desperately tried to give us the game and we absolutely refused to take it. Eliminate the 4 fumbles we recovered & 10 sacks your guys put on our QB and it would have perhaps been a different game.

We went into this game expecting to roll over you guys and got a lesson in humility.
I think we were out-coached and unprepared on many levels.
Like the old Zen adage, we were the fox running for its dinner and Miami was the rabbit running for its life.
I think we will both be fine, but if we don't make some significant improvements in all phases, then we are in for a very long season.
In the final analysis ( I haven't re-watched the game), we played a very sloppy game and were fortunate for the "win."
I--along with many other Gator fans--expected a MUCH better performance from our team. It was very disappointing.
However, both of our teams have a schedule in front of us. Perhaps this game is an opportunity to learn more about how to manage adversity.
And, after all the "bullet points", it was the first game of the season.
Good luck, beat f$u, and if you find yourselves playing Clemson, I hope you beat them too.

Glad for you as the Miami fan, 'daytona'. You watched some good news = y'all got a good HC, a promising QB, fast and tough skill players, speed, fierce defense. Watch out as this UM learns and develops that fierce pride of the old days - gotta be fond memories reincarnated.
I hope U see Miami cut a path through CFB rankings. (That'll make our weak-0 survival mean more.)

Even though we won, we did not look sharp - not coached sharp, nor executed sharp. CDM owes us a sharper QB with much sharper passing game results - considering the number of superb WRs & TE we've got. Our D can grow into an absolute monster - just need a few players to improve. Mullen & Johnson must pound it into Franks that it will be his running that will make this offense go. (There was no giraffe-gallop in his running last night - just sloth-brain.) If Mullen-Johnson shove some"real-QB reflexes" into FF, then Gators walk on swampwater.

After rewatching the game, it was sloppy, but not as bad as we made it out to be immediately afterwards. There were definitely areas that need improvement (tackling, run blocking, clock management/play calling), but there were a lot of positives for the Gators (big play capability, pass rush, resilience, conditioning). It will be a blessing in disguise that we are able to correct these things after a hard fought rivalry game.

Franks may be what he is, but he will improve as the season goes along. It was good to see him throw that bomb to Hammond after the interception. That fearlessness will pay dividends down the line. He will manage the game better as the season progresses.

Miami is much better than many are willing to admit and their young QB surprised me. They will be a decent squad if they build around him and continue to recruit/play well defensively. Diaz will prove to be a solid hire. I won’t be surprised if Miami is still only a 1 loss team in a few months with a favorable schedule.

Thanks for the classy post, DaytonaCane. Good luck the rest of the season.
I will be very surprised if they are only a one loss team in a few months. I agree with your talent assessment, but that O-line will be the death of them. I’d be very worried about it getting their QB hurt and them having to trot out the tater tot. You have to also imagine their O-line depth is non existent. Any injuries to that group and they could get exponentially worse. They also won’t be able to count on so many fumbles bouncing their way every time. The good news for them is we may be their toughest opponent in the regular season.

That’s valid. Their O-line got baptized by fire. While they didn’t hold up, very few teams will attack them with the aggression and firepower that we did. They should improve as the season progresses and Williams has enough weapons to make some noise in that conference.

I’m hoping that our O-Line progresses as we get deeper into the season, particularly the right side. In my opinion, the O-line was solid at times at pass pro, but they were almost equally responsible for Franks’ second INT. They obviously have a lot of work to do in the run game, but I think Hevesy will coach them up.

As a sidenote, I love how this team looks physically. Very imposing and impressive.

GBM, I agree with your assessment and feel this game is going to prove to be the toughest of our season. Other team I am concerned about is VA who won 10 games last year and who have a really good coach. In the old days we had great OL's and heavily recruited in the coal mine area of PA for big, fast players. Hope Diaz can find some at least average OL players/

Four turnovers and a W. Not sure how many more games like that we will have.
This!.... and no run game. Don't try to tell me P2 averaged 4.2 yards per carry. He had some long runs in passing situations where it was given by the defense, like on our last drive of the 1st half with 30 seconds. We couldn't run when it mattered and it changes the complexion of the offense. It's unbelievable we still won.

I totally agree!! This game was an especially big gift given the 3 weeks they have to mine the wealth of dumbass they have captured on film. After escaping with a win against a major conference team, they not only got a dose of much needed humility, but they now also have an off week and then a live cupcake to get ready for UK. They even get a couple of weeks of opposition game film before having to go to Lexington and try to start a new a streak.

Finding a way to win that game in a truly fugly fashion followed by such a weird scheduling anomaly is certainly providing a unique silver lining opportunity!

Don’t worry about Virginia. It’s my home state and one thing I know. UVA will never really be a serious football team. Hell, they’ve lost like 15 in a row to Va Tech.
