Will this be the year we go back to having a game changing defensive line? Greenard and Zuniga seem to be poised to be quite the duo to deal with in the SEC this year.

Will we bring heat? Hell yes.....Will we match up well with a physical downhill running team that can also throw a little? Have to wait and see on that one....UK game will tell us more.

Was chatting with a friend of mine who was LB for UGA (yeah.. we talk ****).. he was VERY impressed with our D-line. Said that even with scUM's weak offensive line, they looked like the real deal. Particularly called out Zuniga and Moon as damn near unblockable.

I swear Im not going debbie downer here, but I wont be sold until we go up against some SEC caliber o-lines and running backs and sustain our productivity. I have zero doubt our pass rush will be very destructive, but Im concerned we will get bludgeoned to death on the ground.

We're absolutely the smallest D-line in the conference, and we are one of, if not the shallowest as far as depth is concerned. That is very concerning to me. I dont like ends playing NT and oversized linebackers playing end. I completely agree for a pass rush it works very well, but standing up against the run is a completely different thing.

Now we can compensate for our undersized line by making tackling a whole defensive team effort - everyone rush to the football and get in on the action. Unfortunately, at least in the first game the defense did the opposite. Some guys didnt seem to want to tackle, and other guys seemed like they had no clue how to do so.

I hope playing LSU and dwags make me eat my words, but right now I'm not seeing it.

I was really surprised w/ how well Moon played. Also Dunlap looked solid, and he was in for a lot of big plays. I think we'll be fine if we stay healthy. I know Slaton has been a disappointment, but he was getting praise from the players during fall camp. Hopefully he's gotten himself ready and plays harder this year.

Agree that we need to see them vs. a better OL, but it seems we have enough bodies right now for a good rotation. Just need to see it vs. an SEC team.

I watched the replay and I don't recall seeing Chatfield on the field. Did he play?

You need some new friends. And some disinfectant.

You want size...Slaton is 6'-5" 358lbs. If nothing else...He's hard to move.

Four Florida Gators suspended for opener against Miami | Tampa Bay Times

Gators suspended four players, including safety Brad Stewart and defensive lineman Tedarrell Slaton, Saturday for failing to “live up to the Gator standard.”

Stewart started seven games for UF last year. He had 41 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception as a sophomore. Stewart was listed as a co-starter at safety on Monday’s depth chart.

Slaton was listed as a second- or third-team nose tackle and started two games last season. He recorded 21 tackles (one for a loss) and recovered a fumble.

I missed Mullens presser today. Any word how long suspensions are/were?

My mistake. We have one big backup in the rotation. Just forget everything I said.

I know this is a thread about the D-Line, but no one is giving Miller any love at LB. What happened to Burney? Miller was in on QB sacks and pressure all night.

Miami's o line is barely acc quality let alone SEC quality. Need to see vs some good lines before I declare anything.

I really think by using Burney-Miller we'll be able to handcuff opposing offenses. :D

Now I would hope CDM spent these 2 weeks:

1) insuring that Franks understands & pulls-the-trigger on being a true dual-threat QB. = gives Gators an extra RB.
2) making sure Toney gets the most out of his touches, even if fewer just to keep UK's DC in the dark.
3) develop our dominant TE, across the middle.
4) Okay, hone FF on long-ball accuracy ... just in-game practice this Saturday.
5) gaining faith in using Jacob Copeland in the O mix.
6) off this next fake punt, have Townsend throw a long pass.
7) what about helping the OL out by installing the use of misdirection to increase OL's chance of blocking the D-line leaning off-balanced ?

I too want to see it vs. the SEC grind we'll see week in week out. But I'd rather them tune up vs. da "U" than the normal cupcakes we open with. Think this will help the D Line and the team overall moving forward.

Good thing Polite went to the NFL so we can make room for all this talent.
