Duke Dawson traded to the broncos. He’s been a colossal bust like Tabor. Pats get conditional 7th rounder.

Based on his draft position, sure he has been a bust, but was there really anyone who thought Dawson could play at a high level in the NFL? He was not great at UF. Tabor was better but slow, but he was good at film study. I will put many of the eyes of the Gatorchatter members over the eyes of the scouts. Credit to a guy like Taven Bryan, but who on this board thought he was 1st round talent? Same with DJ Humphries. And how is J Taylor doing? I watch little NFL, but why he was talked about as high 2nd or 1st round pick to me was laughable. We all knew that Joseph was not NFL ready but he either had to leave or bought some water front BS from someone who told him he was a 2nd round pick. He was below average. And when you are not as good as a guy like David Reese who was not even mentioned as an early entry and was not even listed on any draft sheets, you know something is askew. I like Reese, but he is not a good player. Perhaps the pros see something of potential and chalk it up to years of awful coaching at UF, but even with awful coaching, there is still an ability to see something that would lead you to think these guys can play. But most of these guys we are talking about showed almost nothing to make me believe they would be good NFL players.

I thought Bryan disappeared for long stretches and there were games we never heard his name mentioned. I was shocked to see him drafted in the first round, but he was physically built to be a combine hero.

Sometimes I think teams would draft better if the overrated combine was abolished and they just had to rely on watching game film.

Interesting concept but wouldn’t scouts start to rely on pro days for their info? Pro days are way more slanted towards the athlete than the combine.

Props to Fred Johnson. He is officially a Pittsburgh Steeler.

Well I have to say this is the irony of all ironies. Props to him yes, but as much as I think most of the UF guys who landed in the draft were overrated by both our fans and some scouts, I can't say I saw Fred Johnson and his concrete cleats landing anywhere. So as more highly touted played get cut,Big Fred survives. Who would have thunk it?

I'm with you. I can't believe he made the 53. By the way, freelancing is what got Polite cut. Did it so much they cut his azz.

Good point. But is there a player or coach on earth that doesn't suck? Atleast by firefoley standards

I’ve learned recently that extends to everything in his life. He recently moved out of Gainesville because it sucks and the utility company sucks and the residents suck.

Polite getting cut is only the 3rd or 4th time in my 35 years of watching football that I've seen a player drafted in the first 3 rounds not make the team. And this is a team that is absolutely desperate for edge rushers. It's embarrassing as hell.

I think Butters rubbed off on these guys.

Gase said they have guys on defense doing what they are asked to do, go where they are asked to go. Polite wasn't. In this case, he was talking about on the field stuff. In other words, freelancing. I bet work ethic was a problem as well.

However, the NY media is blaming his cutting on the front office. They never wanted him, didn't give him a chance, and cut him. Which is true, I don't know. I lean on the side that Polite was an idiot. His combine is now legend for its stupidity.

And to think, what, nine months ago he was being touted as a possible 1st rounder?

I remember a few draft people saying he was a tweener type that wasn't fast enough for starting in the NFL as an OLB. Still gets paid I guess for people taking a big chance.

Fred actually didnt play that bad later in the 2018 season.

Even if all that is true, he was on the team for four lousy months. With coaching, talented players can become better. They must have thought he had absolutely no future to cut him now.

Or, they are just so butthurt about the former GM that they cut him to rub salt in his wounds or something. I wouldn't put it past an Adam Gase team to do something like that. Gase is one of the worst coaches in the NFL and it's a sick joke that the Jets hired him after he was mercifully fired for destroying the Dolphins.

I hope they go 0-16.

Apparently, he is now getting solid OL coaching which I do not believe he received while here...
