Controversial but yes.

A) 2 championships.
B) “out of control” program was overblown. Certainly wasn’t great but we were the National focus because we were winning.
C) he didn’t leave Muschamp with nothing. Muschamp wrecked a finely tuned ship that was leaking.
D) Zach Smith sucks but every great coach has employed a scumbag. Don’t condone it but it happens.

Coach Meyer had tunnel-vision that allowed terrible troubles outside the program.
With Tebow's help he made UF Football nationally famous.
Meyer won 2 National Championships.
Meyer brought GatorNation fascinating, exciting high scoring offenses. Plenty joy to watch.

Putting him in the ring of honor is less blasphemous than ignoring him to keep him out.??
There's plenty I do not like about Meyer, but most of that I learned from muckraking after he was gone.

He should be in, how can this be questioned? 2 nattys, and a Heisman winner should be enough. Yeah, he had some d-bags on the team and his exit was less than graceful but so what?

I certainly thank him for what he did while at UF. He meets the criteria, if he goes in I'll be ok with it. He should at sometime do so. I have always said he needs to repair some of the damage and relationships that he was responsible for when he left. Seems that he is trying to do so in a way Meyer only knows how. We'll see how that goes. It will take some time as some of the wounds are still healing, but they are better off today than they were a year ago this time.

Yes, but it needs to wait until he's 60 and not coaching. The exception we made for the HBC should be a one time thing.

He belongs. He earned it.

I think, in retrospect, all of this ire towards him would be a non factor if we hadn’t hired 2 morons to replace him. We blame Meyer for the last decade. But, in reality, it’s the faults of Foley and Stricklin. Meyer didn’t hire his replacements. Meyer didn’t stop us from investing in the golden goose and getting in the arms race.

Meyer may not be a true Gator, but he still deserves to be honored for his achievements while acting like one.

They have beat this subject up on wruf. It seems meyer has been politicking , but school would look terrible if guy was loudly booed upon reception. Let's do it in a couple years from now. He's a tool but he did deliver

It sure seems like Urban Meyer is trying to get back in the good graces of Florida Gators fans

Interesting article. Though I have no interest in a second chapter with the Urbs, I personally think he deserves his spot on the Ring for what he accomplished while he lead the Gators despite the sad, abrupt and lame way it all ended.
But he lied to us and left us and ruined our team as he went out the door and recruited terrible people and he always loved the midwest better than us and he lied about his health and shielded wife beaters from the press and he is a terrible man...........

No.

I know this opinion won't be popular, but the lawless sh*tshow of entitlement he put together for those wins disgusts me.

I spent three decades castigating Bowden for putting up with felons in the name of winning, and what did we end up with? A freakin' serial murderer and an endless series of drug-addled woman-beaters.

No thanks.

I’d take a couple of felonious assaults and a petit theft for another couple of SEC titles and a National title...

As other have said, I can see a valid argument for both sides. So I have no issue with your stance.

That said, I think your last statement is way exaggerated. I can think of three players who had some sort of physical contact with women(Rickerson, Brown and I’m thinking one other). They were all booted immediately. I don’t think a week passes these days without some player on some team being accused of this. I think we’ve had 3 in the last year.

And Hernandez may have been a bad seed and did some bad things even here, but there’s no evidence of him being a murderer, much less a serial murderer, here.

I have no idea who OJ’s coach was, but can we really blame him for what Simpson later did?

Again, I respect the argument. I just think our whole “bad guys” thing was way overblown. I’d venture to say 75% of our arrests were for no license or throwing plastic cups.

He's a great coach no question. But I never really felt him to be a Gator. I saw him as a carpetbagger or as a sort of "have gun will travel" type of coach. It always irked me that he said his dream job was Notre Dame even while he was in Gainesville. Come on dude. He wasn't likable. He appeared cold hearted and ruthless. He certainly wasn't Ray Graves. Yeah Gator Ray from the hills of Tennessee was one of us swampers. But Urban coached in a different time. That's what it takes now; be focused like a laser. Like Saban. Like Urban. But whereas Saban was able to handle the stress of being a type A personality in a pressure cooker, Urban folded X 2 due to medical issues. He burned out.

Look at his UF resume, obviously one of the top 5 coaches of all sports in UF history. One of the top two coaches in UF Football history. 2 National Titles. This isn't even a debate, the answer is yes.

You don't want to give him any credit for Tim Tebow? Tebow was really close to going to bama and may have if not for Meyer.

Yes, Meyer should be in the ring of honor. He didn't leave the school on Probation or with a lack of talent. He isn't responsible for people's actions after he coached them. He even gave Foley a full year to hire his replacement. Everyone loves to blame Meyer for the last decade, but all signs point to Foley for that.
