So our defense allowing long drives by a FCS team is okay? How far into a corner are you going to paint yourself in with these excuses?

UF should have played far better against a FCS team, it's okay to say it. Lightning will not strike you.
They weren't long yardage drives. They had an 8 play, 34 yard drive, a 6 play, 4 yard drive, and another 8 play, 30 yard drive in the first half. Obviously no points were scored. No defense anywhere is ever going to stop a team from getting first downs. Ever. But when they're taking the full 40 seconds to run those 22 plays, that's nearly 15 minutes of clock when you include the time it takes to execute the plays. It's common sense and math. You really need to go take a Zoloft with Law.

Believe it or not, it’s exactly what Kiffin did against us in ‘09. He had no illusions of winning the game, and his ego preferred losing while not trying to win rather than getting blown out.
That was a FCS team?

Doesn’t explain 17 points in the other 15 minutes by our offense though. That’s a plodding pace if I’ve even seen one. Especially when you consider we had no issue hanging 28 in the second half.

It was over when we kicked a FG on our first drive after Pitts got tackled by a blade of grass.

Effort was certainly an issue in the first quarter, Mullen called it out after the game.

Again, we'll all be on the same page about Franks in 2 months. Even Marine1, who has a cringe-worthy obsession with the kid.

Marine1 also told us Pierce was the next Emmitt Smith, and that hasn't quite panned out either. Those FCS defenders were too much for him to handle last night.

I’ll bite even as we all know this is a contrived thread to post pad.

No obsession with Franks. The obsession is clearly yours. This thread only proves this. All I do is respond to your obsession with the kid. He played last night as I thought he would.....well. He’s not a Heisman candidate but he demonstrated what Mullen has known all along....he is the best we have. By the way, it wouldn’t take me 2 months to change my mind. I was ready to last night if EJ came in and demonstrated he was the guy. I like this kid a lot and think we should have packages installed every single game. He is a dynamic runner and just needs snaps to settle down as a passer.

For the record neither EJ or Trask are Heisman level QB’s either. If or when they ever get the nod that will be evident and you will hate them for it. But I will defend them until the next QB takes the helm. Both are solid Gators and deserve respect.

As for Pierce I remain very optimistic. But as I said many times last year he is a back who needs carries to perform. He is a bruiser who wears down a defense. Just like I wanted EJ to get more time last night I was hoping Pierce would get at least 12 carries. But with Perine and Davis ahead of him it does not look like that will happen much if at all. He will have to wait his turn. From what we’ve heard he is a high character guy with tremendous work ethic so he’ll be fine.

This is embarrassing. We have posters equating a talented SEC team (Kiffin did have some talent) to an FCS team to explain why our offense only managed 3 points in the first quarter.
Man, did you watch the game? Our 2nd drive of the game started with 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter and didn't end until the 2nd quarter. Are we supposed to score multiple times on each drive? And our TE was going for at minimum a first and goal if not a TD when he was tackled by air.

That’s completely irrelevant to the point. No one, certainly not me, is equating those two programs. The point was about the strategy, nothing else. They were trying to move slow and shorten the game. Outside of forcing a 3-and-out on every possession, there’s not much Mullen, Meyer, Spurrier or anyone else can do about it. It’s absolutely going to have an impact on things.

Ftr, you also won’t see me defending the slow start on offense. We are a flawed offense at multiple positions. No denying that.

Like it or not, that statement can coexist with what I said above regarding teams purposely trying to limit possessions. I didn’t think it was this hard.

MJM and Ox are essentially arguing the tail versus the dog. Mullen's passing game will never be confused with Spurrier's, nor should it be confused with his own.

Go back to 2008 under Tebow or 2015 under Dak. Mullen will throw downfield with some degree of regularity when he has a passer he trusts.

He doesn't trust Franks nor, just as important, does Franks trust himself. Hence why he checks down to the running back or tucks the ball and runs as often as he does.

This offense will never see its full potential with Franks or this so-so OL.

Of all the posts in this thread...you highlight that one as embarrassing? That’s embarrassing.

Franks is intentionally keeping games close to keep EJ and Trask off the field. Smart dude. Why allow your competition an opportunity to look good? ;)

Sigh. You guys act like the threat/non threat of Franks running has nothing to do with opening up the run game. It does. The run game is NOT going to "get going" with Franks back there. Defenses now have an entire year of film on him and it's not going to end well.

So Trask is going to get run game going?

Admittedly missed the first half. I explained that in the game thread if you’re interested in revisiting it. I’m not.

That said, my issue is with the implication that a FCS team can even effectively employ ANY strategy against our first team. We should be running roughshod over them from the opening kick, not settling for FGs because of ONE play on the first drive. Certainly not playing at a snails pace like we love to do. Y’all make it seem like it’s totally normal to eek out 17 points against some random FCS team in a half. Wisconsin didn’t seem to have issues hanging points on an FBS team last night. But I guess they’re known for a hurry up, high passing volume offense. Oh wait...

during the Spurrier or Meyer eras?
And this, ladies and asshollleees is why Franks/Millens/our ****S will never be enough. The bar was set so high with those coaches and the timmys and dannys and jimmys and joes they had..........it is up there where Zambo works each day. But I get it. I want that type of offense again. But I have to say I do THANK GOD we finally had them.

Well just a little free advice, if you don't watch the game then it might not be a good idea to have strong opinions about what everybody else saw. If you're going to bych about statistics rather than the actual events, then bych about FF having one of the statistically best games that a UF QB has ever had.
