Or Leak for Spurrier?
My view is that had Spurrier been rehired in 2005, Leak would have been the Kyle Morris of that coaching change. In fact I suspect that might have contributed to UF not getting Spurrier back.
Or Leak for Spurrier?
Why? KM was an INT machine. Leak was a smart and accurate QB, which is the type of QB that thrives in the Fun n Gun. I don't see where skillset or type of offense would've hindered Leak's success under the HBC.My view is that had Spurrier been rehired in 2005, Leak would have been the Kyle Morris of that coaching change. In my view:
3. I think the evidence that Meyer is the best coach (though not so good for your program long term) in college football is he won big with Leak.
In my view:
1. Leak was certainly not a smart nor accurate QB in my view. Smart QBs don't slide short of first downs or throw the ball out of bounds when not pressured etc. Accurate QBs do not throw picks against Miami in a bowl game when trying to throw the ball out of bounds.
2. Leak's "skill" set of throwing the ball away when pressured a tiny bit and completing a high percentage of short often behind the line of scrimmage passes were a complete mismatch with Spurrier's press the defense downfield offense in my view. I can not imagine Spurrier putting up with Leak as his QB for more than about five minutes.

I'm not in total disagreement about Leak. Imo, he was one of those players that was actually just as good as a Freshman as he was as a Senior. The offense obviously skewed his final two years, but I still think he was the same in decision making, accuracy, etc. Outside of the TD pass to Baker that started things off in Glendale, his best ever to me was the one to Troupe against fsu in 2003. To me, he peaked that season.
But to your last point, we had recently converted Reggie Lewis and Utah-transfer Ryan Smith as starters at Corner, backed up by the McCollum twins, not to mention KJ and Joiner who were average at best roaming the secondary...and you believe Meyer's winning with Leak to be his biggest accomplishment?
Take away Nelson, and I'm not sure we've had a more "mehh" secondary since the '80s. Great DL or not, I still marvel at how we didn't give up more passing yards that season.

You’re saying a QB coached by the Zooker wouldn’t improve with SOS as HBC/OC/QB coach?
