Didn't we make a big adjustment in 06 by installing a fullback instead of asking CL to try to run this offense?

We did and it worked. I have been saying this for a while. You can keep Trask in the spread but put him under center at times with a FB and fire off the line we're bound to see some improvement in the RG. Trask can throw and gets rid of the ball. Need to use this to our advantage. And yes, the play calling CHANGED drastically when #11 went in.

Cover, good analysis as always. I think Trask being in there will help some of the Offensive issues, not cure them all. But now Mullen is going to have to coach to the strengths. He has more of a QB like Leak in there now. Lets see if he can make it happen.

My big question for DM, "could you not see this in practice"?

Swain came up big on his catches. I could not believe they left him open again (he broke their hearts in 2017).

Say what you want about the jet sweep for a 76 yard TD, but I thought it was a gutsy call. A backup QB handing off to a WR that has never taken that handoff in a game. Too many things could have went wrong. I am happy for the ending but those are the things that scare me.

Dan kept the jet sweep in his pocket right up until the last 3rd down. Well played, but we can’t rely on good luck and winning the lottery on a good one time call. We need consistency. Kyle and the receiving corps look to be the only place we’ll find it. Pass protect has been decent in OL. Only gave up two sacks I think. We are one dimensional in the extreme right now so dan has to figure out how to work it if he can. Four or five losses still a distinct possibility.

Why we haven’t done the jet sweep more often is mind blowing.

Good stuff cover . It looked to me like Zuniga May have had had a first half suspension. Didn’t see him out there for a single snap until the opening drive of Q3. Later in the game he had ice on his ankle . As you pointed out we were missing him . Pass rush was so so without our man Z.

Reese and Shawn Davis had good ball games . Miller went down and I figured Houston would be in. Brunson however did a decent job, and made one key tackle in particular prior to the second INT by Davis . I’m not sure if Burney is injured or not but we haven’t seen much of him since the opener . After impressing in camp that’s a bit of a disappointment.

Dan showed some warts in this one . I didn’t care for the first two point attempt . Obviously up 1 late we needed to go for it a second time . QB draw after
Scoring on the play before with it was foolish . Just a really poor call there . I think he realizes he has to get the most out of Trask/Emory moving forward . The latter of which can definitely help with the ground game . Guessing KT is the emergency third team QB upon his return .

More carries for your guy Pearce please . Obviously
he’s earned more than two per game . I’m expecting a series here or there for Emory on Saturday . For all of our struggles running the ball las night , we got the big play in the ground when we had to have it .

Great analogy, Bart! I loved him with the Dolphins when Griese went down, but not enough to cut my curly locks and get a flat top!

My first thought was that it would have been a great 2 pt. play, but I'm glad we had it to spend to seal the game. Most coaches have one like that each game that they keep for when they really need it. Kudos to Coach for his patience and timing.

Thanks TN. I have to think Coach knew all along what he had in Trask, but he also knew how the team felt about and responded to Franks. Hate that it took an injury for all to see, but football is a man down/next up game and we saw that concept work pretty well last night.

Trask did a great job selling that fake.
Trask obviously did a lot of great things last night. Very impressed with how he ran and executed his part of the offense. He threw it pretty well, but his best toss might have been the late pitch to Perine on the option, while he was in the grasp no less. Kid made one helluva play. I'm interested to see what he does with a week of full reps with the ones.

The faster Tempo (urgency) when trask first came in, coupled with his quick initial read and throw seemed to keep the D on their heels a bit more. Kept Mo going,
Hopefully Trask can keep his composure when the initial read isn’t there and doesn’t get broken from matador blocking. I would think Mullen would play both qb a lot, but he won’t.

We knew we didn’t have OL, DT or LB coming in, but once again our vaunted DB aren’t. WTF? Just too small to compete? On some plays I know we rushed 6 and didn’t get there and left them stranded.

Agree with all points, Counselor. We are painfully slow up front (and not real strong to boot). I think I've heard you call for a FB. I think that would be in order. As to the pass to set up the run, it looked sorta like we did that with Trask to an extent. More please.

BTW good to see you back!
Who would fill the fullback role? Gamble, who I don’t recall touching the field yet with the ones this year? Zipperer seems to be who they’re comfortable with in the “heavy” package down near the goal line.

Thanks 25. Right on about the LBs and agreed about the 2 pt. play calls. Maybe he needs three or four such plays in his pocket each game? Definitely agree about Pierce. Fast and heavy is how he runs. Need the heavy part.

Perine is killing me right now. I know he doesn’t have much up the middle but twice last night if he planted and cut a play that was dead turns into something good. Instead he ran right into the only person that could tackle him early.

He's running like he has two sprained ankles and making cuts causes excruciating pain. He needs to be sat down.

What we actually need to do on offense is what Trask was allowed to do. Throw the ball every time there are 8 in the box. Against KY that was always, if it is covered then QB gets what he can and not get hit. Running an offense that you want without the individuals to do so is idiotic. Only good thing about this is the victory, but I have seen several other games like this against Ky.

It really doesn't.

If we force Trash to run options on first and second and put him in 3rd & 8, he will be ineffective too. No one is good at 3rd & 8. Wuerffel missed 40% of his passes.

At some point the coach has to bend philosophy to the reality of the roster. I just haven't seen it in the last 14 years of this guy's playcalling.

Yep a hard reality check will be coming in the Auburn game I am afraid.

I've read some posts about how Mullen's offense requires the O line to do a lot of pulling, sliding, and reaching that requires athleticism that they just don't have. Makes we wonder if it is also tiring for them. I've never played O line but it seems like just firing off the ball for the most part would keep you fresher and allow you to get some push instead of trying to turn every play into some fancy ballet.

Don't forget Trey Burton scored 6 TDs against Kentucky. I'm hoping Trask is not the same flash in the pan.

For one thing, Kentucky's secondary was seriously undermanned. Still, I liked what I saw.

As for Mullen, he must be the luckiest coach in the NCAA. But how many of his nine lives does he have left?

This. It was a thing of beauty how he faked the hand off to Perine while he just gave it to Hammond. Timing was perfect. I had to look at it a few times.

Starts around the 2:40 mark - around 3:05 for the comment 'did you see my handoff?'
