Both Perine and Pierce are averaging 3.5 yards per carry through 3 games. That is absolutely abysmal.

His play in the open field with the ball this year has been embarrassing so far. The O line is to blame for the rest.

Seems to go down with the first contact. Timid as well.

I have a similar thought on Perine this year. As a frosh, Perine could not make a man miss in the open field to save his life. He literally would run directly into the defender in the open field on a one-on-one matchup, but not in a powerful or angry way. Then last year, I commented on how his vision had improved and he seemed to really have taken a giant step. Well outside of the Oline being awful as mentioned, he looks like the frosh version of himself.

That screen pass after we got the penalty and it was 2nd and 25 was the penultimate fail. He's got one guy out there to beat and a blocker in front of him and he runs right up the back of the blocker and allows the single defender to take him down. Half the people on this message board could have made that guy miss.

You nailed it Zambo. He's been awful, and the tough kid from Georgia has been much better.

I didn't see him calling audibles. My guess is Cousin Eddie Moron knows he can't play option with Trash and went to the pass. That could be a good thing.

Im just wondering why our 6 million dollar man didn't it figure out by the third series versus scUM.

Then again, he ran the option for 25 straight games before he finally let Chris Leak pass vs OSU. I've learned to never underestimate the bullheadedness of a moron.

Kintucky had a garbage secondary BEFORE they lost their first 2 safeties and put true freshmen on the field. SOS would have scored 60 or 80 versus that. We just keep "trying to establish the running game" (and putting ourselves in 3rd and long every damn series) for the first three and a half quarters of every damn game.
I have to agree about Mullen, though I think you're going to find out you've underestimated Trask. His playcalling has been particular awful. I don't think he really trusted Franks.

Wonder how much of it is CDM feeling loyalty to the senior, Perine. That can stifle the competition if the younger backs know they can't break into the starting position, whereas if you have the competition in practice it shaprens allp layers.

I'd agree with Shelby, alternate drives with Perine and Davis, let them show if it is the line, the play calling, or the want to, and by halftime you should know who has the want to.

The bench is a coaches best friend. Start Pierce, light a fire or sit and stew.

Mullet won’t do it though.

Sometimes we see guys that were part of a great tandem and just assume they’ll be great on their own, especially in a feature year. But it just doesn’t always work out. Mit sure whether it’s the OL, his reads, or something else, but this is clearly not working.

May be time to play younger guys like Pierce.

I see what you're saying, and there is some truth to it. However Perine was featured
quite a bit his soph year when JS was suspended, and of course Malik went down with an injury.
Lamical was one of our very few bright spots that year.It looks like a combo of a poor OL play and Perine just not making plays when they are there, like the throwback screen on Saturday that should've been around a 20 yard gain. I'd like to see more
of Pierce . He's definitely earned more than two carries per game.

Leave Perine in. He's not been the problem. The moribund passing attack has. That could change with Trask taking the snaps.

His new hesitant running style is not helping. Pierce has shown more flashes because he just plows ahead full steam.

Poor OL play will make the best back look bad. I include our TEs in with the OL because we often have a TE in the hip when running power and counter.

As far as 8 in the box? Haven't seen it played against us. We seldom are on the field with less than 3 wide. That would mean the defense is playing cover 0 man on the back side and no one at the college level does that.

UK DL were big dudes who tackled really well. Nobody really got past them. Perine isn't the problem. Our OL is missing their assignments big time and it aint even close. Blaming Perine for Forsythe's inability to at least touch the DB is ridiculous. Delance needs to be benched before Perine. Our guards are also missing their assignments left and right. Furthermore, its ridiculous for people to sit here and say Peirce is the better back when he hasn't played a lick. 2 plays against UK ... and you guys are screaming for him. He got like 6yds off his first run then got stuffed at the LOS on the next. It was exactly like Perine all night.

What I will conceded, I want to see more rotation, especially against a big physical DL like UK. Perine was probably pretty tired on some of those plays. We saw just about NOBODY else all night. That is what I think the issue was ... along with our OL sucks balls against the run.

EDIT: For the record, I love Peirce and want to see more of him. He is a bruiser. I was really hoping this season with respect to RBs on the field would be more like last year: Perine moves up to #1 and Peirce moves up to #2. But so far this year it has been nothing but Perine for the most part.

I do think a scat back type of player against an over sized DL will work as well. OL will need to widen their splits to 36-40 inches and make those fat bastards play in space. Circa 2006-2007 UF v. LSU.
