I thought this Spurrier quote was germane to this thread: “In 12 years at Florida, I don’t think we ever signed a kid from the state of Alabama…Of course, we found out later that the scholarships they were giving out at Alabama were worth a whole lot more than ours.”

Im rooting like hell for CDM. I like him. I am not a huge fan of his scheme but I am a huge fan of watching it roll over other teams when he gets it rolling. Im not a pumper and Im not a dumper ... I deal in the real world. He has all you need as a head coach that can make UF dominant again ... except he isn't bringing in the talent. He has everything else. He was probably the best option of available hires when we was in the market so I am not going to complain about his hire nor revisionist history it like a lot seem to do. But ... he needs to bring in the talent. It p!sses me off watching Clemson dominate with all that Florida talent.

Good post....and yet, you'll still have homers pop in here just to whistle past the graveyard with their silly comments. It amazes me how many people are happy with regular 3 and 4 loss seasons and no shot - at all - at any sort of championship. These same homers talked as much sh*t about Mark Richt's UGA program (a perennial 9 win program) as anybody. But, don't look now.....

We all know Mullen has work to do on the recruiting trail. He'll either fix it - or he'll be gone. If it's the latter, the only question is; how long does he get? I think he was dealt a super sh*tty hand and will get at a minimum 5 years (unless he bangs a co-ed on Fuchs desk and there's a viral video). So I have hope. I saw him at a speaking engagement this winter and I'm certain he is 'all in' on this program. These coaches are smart, they talk to their peers, and usually make adjustments. I'm going to assume that he knows something ain't working. Let's hope he gets it fixed.
Moving of the goal posts to the point they’re no longer on the field.

At first it was he won’t win 8 and won’t beat teams who have more talent. Now that bullshyt freak out before the games are played narrative is dead and buried it’s he’ll never win more than 10 games.

I’m pretty sure Mullen has openly acknowledged he didn’t like the recruiting situation and it was turned over only a couple months ago.

So instead of being insufferable douches who haven’t been right once why not wait it out?

CDM is a reasonably good coach and a reasonably bad recruiter. Why keep whining about it? You guys are like a kid with a scab on a partially healed sore-- you just can't stop picking at it. Maybe Ox should institute an ID system whereby we could identify posters as either"football fans" or "recruiting fans". Then these kinds of posts would be more understandable.
What an idiot. I guess he thought this was a recruiting thread

I can't tell if the first sentence is directed at me or somebody else. But I haven't moved the goal posts one bit. My goal posts start and end with a National Championship....not 10 wins, 11 wins, or a Peach Bowl victory. I'm willing to give this thing time....but we all know finishing 17th (after the re-calculated ranking) isn't going to cut it, no matter how much we want to like the guy. Mullen may have "acknowledged" it, that doesn't mean he's fixed it. We'll see over the next 18 months or so (the next two classes). Again, I'm pulling for him.

Primarily at matrix. He was hilariously and embarrassingly wrong and move dthe goal posts so far out of the stadium to try to fit his narrative inside. Being consistently a 10 win plus team is absolutely the goal. That keeps yourself in contention for conference and national titles. 10 wins in year one and more than likely year two should keep most fans happy so I can’t help but chuckle at those trying so hard to predict future failings of a program they claim to love

Oh, I agree on the 10 (regular season) wins. It puts you in contention for the East which gives you a shot at the SEC....which gives you a shot at the playoff. But this being the recruiting thread, I think most of us agree that it starts and ends w/ recruiting. Mullen was w/ Meyer from his start at BGSU. He knows what it takes to win...he just needs to figure out the recruiting part and we'll be in the discussion for titles.

I’m pretty much at this same place. I too think CDM inherited a mess. It didn’t happen overnight and won’t get fixed overnight either. I believe things are moving in the right direction; but the speed of the improvement may do him in. I do also think, with the benefit of hindsight, he is turning out to be the best choice of what was available at the time.

10 win season with this team this year? hell, Ill eat you and Sas's shorts. This is not a good team at all, and so far the coaching staff has made them worse, not better.

Last years team was worse and won 10 games...but we’ll need a minor miracle to reach that this year

im not sure. last years defense was a lot better than this years. we had some size on the line and our secondary actually played well despite not having a lot of fan fair. this year they were hyped as possibly the best in the country... and they are complete trash 3 games in against absolute trash teams. last years oline was pretty solid as well and gelled rather quickly allowing us to run the ball and open things up a bit for a qb who was still figuring things out. this years oline is really poor. the only thing that might save us from embarrasment is trask's quick release and ability to read the coverage and make decisions much faster than franks. I would take last years squad over this years any day.

I would prefer a blow job from Gal Gadot if we're venturing into fantasy land.
Or to put $10 in a CD and have it grow to $1,000,000.
Seriously where are you going with that?

I didn’t realize this was an option. I choose this as well.

I think last year's Uk game has been forgotten by many here(rightly so). But we got torched all night, made some clutch turnover plays that killed their drives, gave up 21 offensive points, and ran for 128 ourselves, at home.

Saturday, we got torched several times, made some clutch turnover plays that killed their drives, gave up 21 points and ran for 138 ourselves, on the road.

To be clear, I get that much of the rushing was the jet sweep, Wilson wasn't playing etc., and I agree that we have not looked very good for most of this year. But I think we were in a really comparable position last year, only at 2-1. For that matter, it wasn't until the ut game(after a very forgettable CSU game) that we actually looked like we could be a decent team. Things can improve, and we have a pretty recent example under this staff to give us reason to believe they will.

Ten wins (really 9 win regular season) ain't gonna buy us shyt. Unless one of those wins is against Georgia and Georgia loses two or three. I don't see that happening. Even so, all that gives us is Eastern Division "Champions" and a t-shirt. It would take a minor miracle to beat 'bama with our stable of talent. We aren't in contention for anything other than "Champions of Life". Nobody is getting it done in the SEC with 17th ranked, or 15th ranked or even 10th ranked classes.
I like Mullen, a lot. But if next years recruiting class isn't top 5 then there is no way it's ever going to get fixed. In almost all cases coaches either hit the ground recruiting or they don't. Mullen has not, either he turns it around with the 2021 class or we are just delaying the inevitable.

Honest to Gawd. If any of you thing that we (or anybody) can be competitive with recruiting classes in the mid teens then there is no hope for you.
