Ten wins (really 9 win regular season) ain't gonna buy us shyt. Unless one of those wins is against Georgia and Georgia loses two or three. I don't see that happening. Even so, all that gives us Eastern Division "Champions" and a t-shirt. It would take a minor miracle to beat 'bama with our stable of talent. We aren't in contention for anything other than "Champions of Life". Nobody is getting it done in the SEC with 17th ranked, or 15th ranked or even 10th ranked classes.
I like Mullen, a lot. But if next years recruiting class isn't top 5 then there is no way it's ever going to get fixed. In almost all cases coaches either hit the ground recruiting or they don't. Mullen has not, either he turns it around with the 2021 class or we are just delaying the inevitable.

I'm in agreement with you on the roster not being sufficient to win the SEC against a team like Alabama. But we've all acknowledged that McElwain recruited terribly. So all the upperclassmen would be leftovers from him, which aren't winning any titles. And the rest would be either RsFr or true Sophomores, which isn't typically what you think of when you talk about championship rosters. So why would we even be expecting to be in that conversation, improvement in coaching or not? There's reason to be frustrated with recruiting, but I think some are going way too far, in large part because of the 8 poor seasons that preceded Mullen's hiring. I'd venture to say less than 25% of this board called for 10 wins in his first season at the beginning of 2018. And now, in year 2, 9-10 wins and a 6-10th ranked class is almost a reason he should be canned?

I feel like I'm the most demanding fan ever, but that's lunacy. If someone like Meyer-'04 is just sitting out there, waiting to be signed, so be it. But making a move just to make a move, after 3 years and a theoretical record of 30-9, is exactly how you end up like the program we're about to face Saturday.

Yep the 2021 class will be the last chance he has to make it here probably. We have already dropped from 12th to 16th in the talent composite since he arrived due to all those recruits that failed to get in or transferred from his last class.

Of course not, I want to see improvement continually throughout the season and I want excited football prospects.

A three loss season is a bad season for a great coach like SOS or Creyer....

Or a good year for garbage coaches like Chimp or Butters.

Arent gray and tennison ranked pretty equally? Wouldnt they both help the same for our recruiting ranking?

Gray just got a CB to Nebraska and WIltfong (from the 247 site) is saying we're behind Nebraska at the moment. Honestly, if his 40 is actually 4.8 I hope we pass. I think we'll keep pushing Tennison and a couple others.

The exact number isnt what is important. #3 vs #2 vs #4, but we must have approximately the same number of bluechippers as the top teams.

Do I think Dan Dullem could compete w roughly the same talent w Saban? ummmm.... well.... I like his chances better than trying to beat Saban's five stars w our three stars.

Elam coming in and having a good year as a freshman probably looks good to recruits.

Sofla had me up until he said winning ten games this year and getting a class ranked 6-10 is borderline fireable. That's insane and no one has said or thinks that. There isn't a poster on this board that wouldn't be thrilled with a class ranked in the single digits. Id be ecstatic if we hauled a number 6 or 7. Right now we are fighting to stay in the top 20 and it's not as if that's an outlier. It seems to be the norm.

Last year 6th was good enough for 5th in the SEC.
And we beat one of the teams in front of us. Was competitive til the 4th and a loss of one of our key players against another who was in front of us. Our blue chip ratio was #3 in conference. Our avg star rating was #3 in conference.

We need to recruit better. We need to enroll and develop our top recruits. But some dudes are just off the charts with their rules/expectations. Recruiting is fluid.

does it matter if we finish strong? Does it matter if we have commits early and lose them? Does it matter our ranking on ESD? What about NSD? Or how many enroll? Or how many become productive? Or how many games these guys win?

We need to recruit better. We need more closers on staff. But theres no offseason bottom line. We just need to do better in the offseason to improve our chances in season.
