The last 2 stiffs said the same thing. not calling mullen a stiff, but just saying, every single solitary coach comes here and emphatically states that the gator standard is conference and national crowns. Doesnt mean a dang thing unless you align your staff, your coaching style, and your player personnel in accordance. Unfortunately, his staff is nowhere close to championship caliber, and obviously neither are the player personnel. The roster takes some time, but the staff can be fixed pretty quickly for someone who 1) knows how to do it, not just what to do, and 2) has the freaking cajones to do so. I'm not confident he possess either. We have dead weight just sitting doing nothing and its been there since the beginning. There is zero excuse for guys like English and Knox. Cant recruit to save their lives and both are poor coaches, english absolutely awful. That's two instant opportunities for upgrades, and yet they continue to sit there. Worse, 1 was hired over a guy who is a top 10 recruiter nation wide who continues to eat our lunch all the way from rural pennsylvania. It's fish or cut bait time, that's all there is to it.

I don't disagree on the staff adjustments. They should be gone, imo, and if it ends up being the reason his family has to pack their stuff and go elsewhere, he'll have to live with that.

But to your first point, the last two stiffs did nothing of the sort. WM especially, spent his first 2 years here conditioning the minds of fans that he'd inherited a mess from the previous regime, even debating with the fans as to whether or not we were justified in our anger during 2013. McElwain publicly complained about facilities, blaming them for the current state, and was snarky in interviews as early as the 2016 Lsu game where he practically wanted to be crowned for winning the East a second time. I'm not saying these guys didn't talk about standards and winning titles, etc. Yes, that's coach speak. But Mullen made it clear when he got here, and repeated it several times in the first offseason that there was nothing less that was acceptable and that it should start immediately. And he inherited by far the worst of the three scenarios. Again, I'm not discounting that all coaches speak glowingly about their prospects. But by his own admission, if he isn't delivering championships, then he's failed. I respect that he didn't take the easy route and give us the "patience" line the way many head coaches have done.

If there's a flaw that I see, it's that he's too confident in his ability to coach-up, making him susceptible to being ok with average recruiting. But unlike JM who saw no issue, I think he does realize this and truly wants to improve it. The question is how, and will he do it? I think he will because I think he's smart enough to know that you only get a job like this once. But as was mentioned in the recruiting thread, if he's winning 10 games a year while getting us to that next level, I'm ok with giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Odds are we are going to be 5-0 and slight favorites over AU going into that game. If we can get and keep all of our critical players healthy by then, there's a pretty good chance we will be 6-0 and ranked in the top 5 by the end of the first week in October.

If you ask me, It could be worse. But god curse anyone who doesn't atone and wallow in the the muck and stench that is Gator Football 2019. You must face the reality that we suck, we have no hope, and we will always suck as long as Dan Mullen is our coach:rolleyes:.
i thnk youre dreaming if you believe we will be favored against auburn.

Some fair points, but seems to me the excuses, the tempering of expectations, and the moving of the goal posts - hired to get to atlanta, not to get a win there, etc. started after we were flailing and those tards knew they were in over their head. Again, not lumping mullen in with them and honestly, I dont think hes a guy thats going to come out with a bunch of excuses if things begin to go south, but the gator standard stuff came out of all their mouths when they were first hired. I remember muschamp saying something about titles and titles expected soon and thats how it should be and told the media they could hold him to that statement. At any rate, here's hoping he cleans house of the riff raff b/c that really is the only thing standing in his way of winning big. He's got the ability and the moxy, he just needs to demand it of his employees on the trail and on the practice field.

Suckage. It’s a tricky thing. In the end, you suck until you don’t.

Must’ve originated from the rumors of good OL perpetuated by pumpers like you. :stirpot:
I said functional.

And they will be functional as soon as we have a functional play caller.

He decided it was year two so we had to go full sideways offense razzle dazzle.

I personally feel confident that we will continue to improve under Mullen, especially as he gets more of his style players on offense. As I said, we're not where we need to be on any front(recruiting included), but I've sen enough to know that he understands how to run a program, and by his own admission on several occasions, he views the Gator standard as hoisting trophies. If that includes making additional changes on staff, I think he'll do it. And the brand is light years better than it was just 18 months ago, which should help. Considering that the consensus was that we had one of the least talented rosters since the 70's/80's going into his first year, with misfits everywhere including QB, and the fact that we won 10 games in a year that some had pegged as a 6-7 win season, I'm willing to let it play out. Unlike the last two guys, and/or Zook, I've seen enough from him to feel like I'm ok with doing so. Of course, I understand those that don't share that view. That's fine. But that's where I'm at.

I'm hoping he does because it's his only chance. We will know in a few short months.
It has been my observation over the years that leaders who demand perfection out of themselves demand perfection out of their subordinates. And they have no qualms firing under performers. Does that describe Mullen?

If I read correctly we are DOOMED to suckage and 3rd place. For fckkks sake Dan went 10-3 first year with a really fckkd up program and barely into his 2nd year but we are doomed.................He is playing the hand he was dealt here for awhile. Instant gratification comes to mind. But but but we aint loading up with five stars immediately. But Kirby and Saban and Dabo...............:what:

thanks for the fan poll.
It's based on a power index, not fan poll. Right now AU's updated power index per ESPN is 19.1 and ours is 17.7. Home field is worth about 3-4 points so the current opening odds would be UF -2 approximately. The only odds on the game so far were future odds prior to the season and we were favored.

No way to know what the opening odds are going to be because there are more games to be played first. If we lose to UT (doubtful) then obviously that's going to affect the odds. If AU loses at aTm this week, or at home to Miss St the following week, which them losing one of those two is much more likely than us losing, that will affect the odds. As it stands now we are slight favorites because of home field, but believe what you like.

There's a lot of sorting out that takes place the first few weeks of a season. We're a crapshoot now that we start an untested quarterback, never mind how much better we looked in the fourth quarter. And Auburn is starting a frosh.

We'll know more as we get closer to the Auburn date. They visit A&M this weekend. That should give us a good clue of their strengths and weaknesses.

Just angling to nab Urban back before USC gets him.
