Play someone other than Perine

Our line may well be more responsible than Perine for our pathetic run game, but no matter. Play someone else, Perine just cannot run in this system. like Franks, seems Dan just believes these are his best players and is not going to give anyone else a shot no matter what.

2 plays against UK ... and you guys are screaming for him. He got like 6yds off his first run then got stuffed at the LOS on the next. It was exactly like Perine all night.

No it wasn't. Perrine has taken to stopping behind the line, losing all momentum and going down without much of a fight, pretty much every run. Take a look at the first of Pierce's two runs - he blasted through a crack in the line at speed and was dragging KY defenders behind him for another 3 yards after the hits. Perrine just isn't doing that so far this year. My suspicion is that he may be hurt. Perrine has run hard for us in the past but not this year. Mullen needs to sit him more and let Pierce, Davis and Clement have more shots. We know our O-line sucks. If our running backs don't run hard we have no chance at a running game.

Dude ... you act as if Perine didnt have some explosive gains just like Pierces. He did ... rewatch the game. On the 2nd Pierce run ... he got folded up just like Perine did all night.

EDIT: Like I said before, I want to see Perine AND Pierce. They are a great 1-2 punch. Perine is shiftyier and Pierce is a bowling ball. I like them both and want to see them both. When you play just one the DL gets into a rhythm and can anticipate the movement.

I'm thinkin' we need all three of the horses in the backfield at the same time. Maybe line up an up back 2 yards behind the QB and flank him with two halfbacks a yard further back on each side. Take the pass part of the option away and fake/handoff on the dive play off center each play and then option around the end with the trailing halfback being the last option. What da' think?

One he can CATCH!

I think it's the OL

But Mullen did stress FRESH LEGS...I think Trask may change this...along with Jones.

It’s not looking like he can be patient and wait for the holes to open...
I think it's exactly the opposite.

Mullins gets mad when players improvise and cut back against the grain or go somewhere other than where the play is called. it's why Kadarius only gets two touches as a game.

it was the same thing with Scarlett last year. they hammered in the kids heads that if you want reps you better run to the hole for which the play is drawn. of course if it's a stupid play that requires and TE to block a SDE or to make a huge pull and beat the Mike to the hole, or a guard to hold a DT for 3-4 seconds, which is a lot of our plays, and there's no hole there, you get Scarlet's production from last year and Perine this year.

Do you guys get tired of calling for the third string back?

Have you noticed the third string back isn't nearly so productive when he comes in early in the game and the defense isn't tired?

Look, there is no doubt that Perine (and Scarlett) arent explosive backs w the quickness for outside runs. except apparently there is some doubt.

Some of this is just silly though. one of the plays that people complained about the most in the box was Pierre getting crushed in the backfield because the backside guard couldn't hold a 320 lb defensive tackle for 4 seconds... while perine waited for the play to develop... while guys were stuck on combo blocks trying to figure out who could climb.

This is like saying that people calling for Muschamp to be unfired after Eastern Kentucky or that Shannon should be HC after UAB have no clue.

Clearly a running back only doesn't get yards because of his own skill. No need to analyze play design or any other potential factors. It is skill alone.

EDIT: Curious if the stoned rating is because it hit too close to home or if someone doesn't get the sarcasm.

You know the rule. Complain about a rating, receive a rating.

So it’s all about recruiting then we get a 4* back with offers from bama auburn and others and it’s calling for a third string back? Funny how that works.

Not sure about Davis in Mullens system but he appeared to be clearly the best option in his limited time in Butters offense..
