You don't need to ask Gator fans. Just go to MSU forums and ask them. They would take back Mullen back in a heart beat. As far as 2018, they had a near elite D and had an experienced team, and the expectations were higher for 2018 than 2017. They didn't even maintain 2017 performance level. So yes they definitely regressed.

Also other than TAMU, what other ranked team did they beat?
Meh.... I wouldn’t say they regressed. Held steady is a better descriptor (F+ improved 4 spots - 16 to 12 - so that would indicate they maintained what Mullen built) but you could also argue that they underperformed EXPECTATIONS, for what those are worth. Morehead was set up for success in year 1 by Mullen and he maintained, not necessarily improved.

So let’s parse this out. You don’t like him based on a lot of secondhand accounts from 2005-08 when he was an assistant, correct? Going deeper:

Recruiting as HC - Doesn’t meet UF standard.
Offensive philosophy - I like it but you don’t, I’m guessing.
Offensive game management - I’m guessing outside some boneheaded calls, you like it too.
Defensive philosophy - Think we both agree that it works for the MSUs of the world but needs to get better here.
Defensive game management - Same as above.
STs - meh? Good talent at kicker/punter but return scheme’s leave a lot to be desired.
S&C - Probably where you add most to the conversation and it seems like you think Savage is doing a very good job considering his restraints, correct?
Media presentation - Better than most thought.

If I’m wrong on your views, let me know but I think the first point about secondhand observations overpowers how you feel about him in performance. Differently stated - if he was someone else that you didn’t have that secondhand interaction with, you’d probably present a much more positive view publicly.

Regarding playcalling.... no one will ever agree with a coaches choices 100% of the time.

0% chance, when that play fails.

Recruiting will improve if Mullen :
1) improves recruiting staff by replacing "duds" with convincing coaches.
2) makes Gators seen as fun-winning team: for recruits to see.
3) attracts best QBs with his growing "QB-guru" reputation.
4) gets unsolicited praise from his players.
5) what else?

Look, he was so hated that Fooley DIDNT EVEN INTERVIEW OR CONSIDER him the last two openings even though everyone on the planet knew he lusted after our job.

He doesn't seem to be as big of an arsehole as he used to be, but he was easily the most hated assistant when he was here across the board staff alumni everyone. I guess living in Starkville for 9 years and losing more conference games then you win will do that to you.

Got it. You don't like Mullen because some low level staffers said that a coach with two NC rings thought he was superior.
He doesnt have two rings more than Butters and Weis have rings.

They watched CUM, Saban and Belichick won rings, and these guys watched from nearby.

Appreciate your thoughtful response but IMO your posting doesn’t always align with this. In this thread, you’ve posted a long descriptor for why you think he might be a narcissist - a considerable accusation as that would be detrimental to everything around him. And I’m not discounting what you’ve heard but just pointing out that you brought a negative view of his personality - inherently “personal” - into the argument when replying to Threat. To me, it doesn’t invalidate your other concerns/opinions but it definitely makes me skeptical about how you formed the opinion. And again - not disagreeing with your method, just explaining why I stated what I did at first.

More simply stated: you could be right that he’s not elite but your opinion, at least to many on this board, will always be viewed skeptically because you bring personal references to the table frequently.

BS. Foley didn’t interview because a) he always thought he knew best and b) he wouldn’t have been cheap like the last two hires. As a fellow Tier 1 Foley hater, I can’t believe you’re willing to give him credit here. Makes me :barfaway:

Let’s not act like TAMU is going to be ranked by the end of the season. They’re an extremely mediocre football team whose only three wins are Texas St., Lamar, and a squeaker against a horrendous Arkansas team.

Was talking about 2018, not 2019.
