My thoughts from the game:

1. I'm hard on Moon because I think he's just an athlete. Well, dude stepped up yesterday to play some solid run defense against a good, veteran o-line. He deserves some props.

2. Bleich has been getting his azz kicked all year long. It was worse yesterday. They moved Heggie to his spot and played Gouraige at LG. The run game improved a bit and Heggie didn't get manhandled like Bleich did. Is the switch permanent? I hope so.

3. EJ played calm in his time. I was impressed. He needs to work on his accuracy. But, I see real promise.

4. With Kyle Pitts being used the way he was yesterday, I imagine it got Darnell Washington's attention. I'd love to land him. Consider this from a 247 article written on Thursday, "Sources have told 247Sports that it was Washington who reached out to Florida to set up the trip after what he has seen on the field through the first month."

Watch the replay on Perine's TD run - Heggie totally wiffed on the block giving the LB a chance to make the tackle in the hole. If he makes the block (and he was there - one on one with the LB in the hole), Perine runs 88 yards untouched.

You're right, the coaching staff should have put Bleich back in the game so he could get pushed back into the QB come more.

You know, in retrospect, after seing that other video from the Top Billin podcast--where does he get all those different angles?-- Heggie did better than I thought though, sidestepping then chipping the tackle just enough to pass the DT to the center and then getting some of the LB. Guys, this is pretty complex stuff we ask them to do. This isnt Woody Hayes football.

It still would have been a great play if Heggie had gotten the LB 100%.

Of course, someone screwed up on defense, either the safety or backside DE. I cant cant im they had that backside DE staying home.

Actually saw this play broken down on one of the CFB shows. Other than the LB missing the tackle, if you look at the formation, the safety was 17 deep and dropping at the snap. By the time he had come out of his drop and started his angle, Perine already had a full head of steam and had little trouble shaking him. At that point, the safety needed more than just his light @ss to make the play. One key block that was made was the cut off block on the backside LB (nice wrap). Also, the 4 wide formation cleaned up the defensive clutter. Good design. Execution would have been perfect if Heggie made the block, but who could argue with the outcome? Football is like that sometimes.

We've yet to see this Gator team put a complete game together. When they do, and I hope it's against UGA, look out!

at game time I thought the LB tripped, If you watch the Perine run on Top Billins video, the LB dodges Heggie, but it looks like the thigh of the driving guard hits his thigh and he does not have his feet under him at impact. Still hard running, but easily could have been no gain.

Thanks, cover, didn't see the importance of the block on the backside LB. Looks like Heggie got just enough of the LB to make the tackle more difficult than it looked in real time. Just forcing the LB inside gave Perine room to the outside.

I meant the other safety whose is on the slot receiver/TE. if you look at the view that I posted in the thread you could see that defensive end is preoccupied with what the tight end is doing as if he thought he had coverage or something, but perhaps it's just lack of eye discipline falling for the eye candy. (that tight end screen fake is an addition that I haven't seen and we've hit the tight end screen a bunch) that backside safety is in man on the tight end, so why does the defensive end care?

I can't think of any other reason why the backside defensive end/EMOL is frozen there.

Respecting the keep? By Trask in a brace?

basically every play I've taken the time to review and slow motion every team including Towson just crashed the defensive end and usually met our running back in the backfield.

First, kudos to the OP for another fine piece of fan generated sports journalism. I would recommend that anyone who didn't read the entire post take a minute and do so - it's worth the effort.

If the AU DE thought DM thought it was advisable to throw passes to KT and have him tackling 500 lb DLs after a fumble, maybe running him off tackle on purpose didn't seem like that big of a stretch. Just a guess.

Mehh, he isnt fast enough that the DE couldnt crash then recover if he kept.

How many times has he kept on a read option? Once against Kintucky?

I guess the key would be to know what we have shown out of that formation. Auburn was likely expecting something wide (as you suggest) and obviously felt confident that their six could stop any threat of a run. As for the DE you mention, looks like his key was back away --> QB. That froze him long enough to keep him out of the immediate pursuit.

Possibly keep the best blocking back in and maybe play Zipperer a little more at TE and stretch the field a few times with our fastest receivers
