I also have a Samsung french door fridge with TWO icemakers, and have had problems with both of them. This thread was actually useful.

Ditto here. It's a design flaw not limited to Samsung. You can't deliver cold to a unit in that kind of multi-differential setting.

As for the ice maker, shame on Samsung for not ordering a recall. It's horribly defective. Freezes up, emits water from the dispenser.

We've had ours replaced under warranty twice. I'm told the next time I contact Asurion for an ice maker claim, I'll be offered a mandatory buyout or else of pennies on the dollar. There's a reason why at three. Four times the same issue qualifies for full replacement under the Lemon Law.

Buy a side-by-side design. That or a Sub-Zero, but they're ridiculously expensive.

We have the LG model and love it!

Full disclosure... I did replace the doors ice-flapper-door because after like 4 or 5 years it started to drip. Did the job myself and it was cheap, easy and effective.

I don't want to jinx myself but will say, in a rhyming way, nuffing elps izzy wong wif hours. And we love it.

Bought a mid price LG from Lowes, Guy told us we best get the 5 year extended Warranty. That warranty has bought two units so far. It's in kitchen.
I prefer an old fashioned top freezer model, They seem to last longer. Have 1 in mud room and another under carport. So yes I have 3 fridges.

Your ice maker will stop working tomorrow.

You, and Gator by Marriage, can suck it as I sip on my post-work toddy, tinkling the ice cubes, and catch up on videos of some dude with hairy arms repainting other people's useless shyt.

If it happens in the next 5 hours, I'm gonna cry.

My LG French Door ice maker quit 2 months after the warranty ran out. The tech said it would cost 1500.00 to fix.
We decided to just haul ice from our old side by side in the garage. After 14 months of not making ice, last week it started dropping ice again. We did nothing to it...... it's working perfectly again but I don't trust it.... I don't believe in miracles.

Ice mold t-stat may be faulty, fill valve may be bad or the shutoff arm may have been frozen up

I've seen that price quoted several times on the internet. You can order a new Samsung icemaker for about $125 and a rebuilt one for around $80. I can replace it under 10 minutes (1 phillips screw and 1 plug).
You can find a good YouTube video to show you how.

It takes me 10 minutes just to unpack the frozen foood from the two drawers in the bottom and get them out of the freezer and another 20 minutes to step inside the open drawer and arrange my legs so they turn out under the door panel which then allows me to lay on the floor on my side so that I can be in position to work on the icemaker. Getting out is even worse. The first time I did this I thought I was going to pull the refrigerator over on myself while getting out. :headslap:

In my opinion the ice dispenser design on French Door's is flawed. Even when working properly, it never keeps up with the demands of a family of 5.
